The staff team are absolutely lovely and fantastic - made you feel incredibly welcome and gave off a great vibe from the hotel in general. The breakfast and food was also great. Comfy beds and generally great.

My parents who were also staying unfortunately had a room in a different part of the hotel that was cold and much louder (was over the function space), so they had to move rooms and weren't as impressed. The spa pool was also quite full of children who were running around, including the whirl pool, which made it much less relaxing. (Children hours in the spa pool is until 6pm so not great for a spa weekend really).

This hotel was a delight to stay in surrounded by extensive grounds where we were able to walking into the evening. Our bedroom was comfortable and plenty large enough for 2 adults, a child and a dog. The important features to us were that it was dog friendly and that it had a swimming pool. The spa and pool had great facilities and were enjoyed by us all. So thank you. There were board games available for the children to play with too. The evening meal offered at the adjoining pub was of a very good standard and a child menu was also available. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was adequate but quite expensive to buy separately. Not sure it was good value for money. Maybe more choice of breakfast cereals, yoghurts, soft fruit compote and variety of nuts etc is needed along with healthy alternatives to a self service cooked breakfast. For example: a choice of salmon, avocado and eggs. Tea and coffee was available at breakfast and served to your table in china teapots etc, lovely touch. However, I feel alternative coffees like cappuccino, latte and hot chocolate should be free of charge and not charged for as an extra. Tea and coffee was not suitable for our grandchildren. Maybe a help yourself coffee machine might help.

The property is beautiful inside and out. I love how the old building has been incorporated in to a modern hotel. My room was spacious, comfortable and well appointed with everything I needed. The pub/bar/restaurant is cozy, with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. (I’d strongly recommend softer lighting in the dining room, it would pull a vast space together help the cozy feel, flow through from from the bar when it’s time to move for dinner).

The gym area is tiny, exposed for all to see and not appealing. The pillars around the pool were all rusty at the base which really lets down the otherwise beautiful pool area and is relatively quick, cheap and easy to remedy. The changing rooms need much stronger ventilation, to prevent the black mould around the lockers and the strong, unpleasant smell of damp. These items are important to me as a guest and desperately need to be looked at as a matter if urgency.

We had a lovely located room and the bed was very comfortable had 2 nights good sleep, all of the compliments of tea, coffee, cookies and toiletries. Staff all helpful and assisted when asked, the spa facilities and pool were just what was needed to help unwind. We had the breakfast buffet and the selection was excellent, I also asked for porridge which was not on menu but were happy to gladly cook and serve. The location of the Hotel is a little gem in The Village and there is a truely wonderful Redwood tree walk to stroll through whilst there. Finally if you wish to eat out and appreciate good cooking then don't hesitate a visit to the Gurkha Lounge, we found and experienced their amazing authentic Nepalese dishes.

Minor issues, Cosmetics really, parts of decor and repairs, fitting for shower head. Probably not easy running hotels in current economic climate but with everything on offer at Orton Hall a quality pro active Hotel / catering manager would really add something extra positive for owners and guests.

Hotel is really nice, just a few things with maintenance that they need to get on top of, the maintenance is the main failure with this hotel. We had a broken socket in our room, broken floor tile in the bathroom, one of the bed lamps didn't work. When we arrived it was like we was on toilet paper rations, we had a roll which was nearly finished and another roll which was 3/4 used, had to go to reception to get more as this wouldn't have lasted for 2 days while we was staying. The receptionist apologised, but this is something that needs raising with housekeeping. Apart from these issues, the hotel and grounds were great, and the staff can't do enough for you.

Maintenance and housekeeping team need to have words with as this is what gave the negative feedback.

I love the hotel, the location is amazing, the surrounds are beautiful, the restaurant and spa are added bonuses to the stay. I got married here 25 years ago and the additions to the property are really good. It’s a peaceful location and not too much noise outside the room. I also like the Ramblewood for a nighttime drink!

The car park is a good size but could do with being tarmac as the leaves are out of control. My car was covered in leaf litter and crap. The spa - the owners of the hotel need to improve the facilities! A lick of paint on walls and the rust on the pipes. The steam room had a bubble up and spewed discoloured water into the room a few inches while we were in there. The jacuzzi had too much chemical in and this spat all over and got in our eyes. The serial mud chamber is not working properly, this needs fixing as you charge extra for its use. The £5 charge for hire of robes and slippers for people staying in the hotel is not good. This should be included. The rooms need pain on doors and walls. Despite this I enjoyed my stay, but these improvements would make it 5 star!

I have stayed in different rooms and always had a good night's sleep. The breakfast, both staff and food, are excellent. The same can be said for the Ramblewood Inn. The leisure facilities meet my needs and I like the fact that the sauna reaches a proper temperature and that guests don't seem to throw too much water on the stones so the humidity is low.

Sorry to say this but the Reception and Spa staff could learn a lot from the Ramblewood Inn and Breakfast staff. The latter are definitely more happy and make you feel welcome. Secondly, it would be nice if the floor in the Spa changing rooms (or at least the men's) could be wiped down more regularly using a floor shower squeegee or similar.

The room was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and dinner in the next door pub was OK. The pool and facilities were pretty good and although some people complain about things looking a bit 'tired' it is easy to forget that the buildings are from another era and not purpose built like modern chains. To change any of this would not really be possible without raising prices to unaffordable levels and would alter the ambience. A great car park and a lovely setting for walks after a big breakfast or dinner.

Given the above, it would be very expensive to totally bring the place up to modern day standards and to be honest we enjoyed it being like it is at the moment. Will happily return if we are travelling through the area.

The property is a beautiful 17th century (I think) hall renovated to a hotel. It has kept a lot of the original features and is surrounded by lovely wooded areas and greenery. The beds were extremely comfortable with real pillows, not the flimsy foam filled rubbish you find elsewhere. We had a meal in the main restaurant which was excellent and the one waiter they had serving was exceptional. He ran around after all the customers but didn’t appear stressed. We felt like we were the only ones in there by the service we received. The breakfast was excellent and the waiting staff were friendly and helpful.

There wasn’t an elevator and our room was in the top part of the hall (the parts where they have the arrowslits to warn off enemies) lots of stairs, so it was a bit of a climb. However, putting in an elevator would probably ruin the ambience and maybe the listed building regs won’t allow.

23 members of our family stayed to celebrate Mums 90th. The rooms were clean and spacious from Mum and Dads easy access room to family rooms. The pool, steam room and sauna were good for all ages. We hired the Hayloft room for dinner which went off perfectly. We pre ordered food which was served efficiently with no issues. The grounds were lovely where the grandchildren enjoyed running around. Very close to Nene Park with lots of facilities by the lakes where we spent the day. Would definately recommend.

Not too far for mum and dad to walk but only 2 disabled parking spaces. One of our party had a fridge. It was very warm so more fridges would be good
