Elephant & Castle is a small traditional style pub with accommodation above. We were met by Summer who was lovely & checked us in & advised us where to park (the pub doesn't have it's own car park, but there's one to the rear of the property with very reasonable rates & the rear access gate makes this very convenient). The bed was really comfy & the room was a good size, very clean & equipped with a fan which in the current spell of hot weather was a godsend! There was a little 'local knowledge' file in the room which was handy & unusual these days.

No food options, but it wasn't an issue as there are lots of places to eat & drink nearby. Lots of key codes for various doors/gates but we had a giggle & said it was like being on the Crystal Maze! Needed my reading glasses to get in & out of the room/pub. Pub is only 'manned' during opening hours so if you arrive/leave outside these hours there's no-one around to speak to. Not a problem if you're happy checking yourself in & out.

An extremely relaxing place to stay in Wakefield . A wonderful big double bed and a very nice room in an historic building . Sliding double glazing makes it soundproof too . Staff were very friendly , very informal and very patient with me as I'm not the best with key codes ! 😄. It's a pity I was very tired or would have sampled the pub which looked very homely . Very near to the Westgate railway station and only a few minutes walk into town with it's stunning cathedral and tempting cafes . The owners are considering putting a breakfast option in and this would be welcome although there are places in town and a nice cake shop next door but two ! A very nice overnight stop 😊 !

I stay here a few nights a month for work, it's spot on value for your money, it's not the Ritz but your not paying for the Ritz either! Clean and tidy, big comfy beds what more do you need? It's over a pub so can be a bit noisy until closing time but it's not stopped me from getting an early night. Staff are friendly and helpfull. Bar is good (bring back the pork sctratchings machine!) drinks aren't expensive and has pool table, darts board & most football games on. There's 5/6 different food takeaways up & down the street or numerous sit down restaurants just up the road. Free parking (6pm-8am) in public car park opposite.

A fantastic architectural masterpiece. Exterior beautifully restored/maintained. Outstanding young staffing team with charm, thoughtfulness and an evident desire to provide the very best experience they could (which they did in spades). Elegantly upgraded modern rooms in a classic early Edwardian building. Still a work in progress clearly being implemented with enthusiasm. Seriously good value rooms all within easy walking distance of the heart of Wakefield and the Hepworth Museum. Easy parking directly opposite the hotel.

The hotel is attached to a great pub. On arrival we were greeted by the Bar Manager and her fantastic staff. The locals were also very welcoming and this just added to our stay. The beer was excellent and good value for money and the bar has a pool table and dart board. The rooms were warm and well appointed, the decor and furnishings were very good quality. In fact the whole building has great kerb appeal. It is in an excellent location, ideally situated for the centre of town and the busy nightlife. A fantastic find and our group will be back, god willing

We liked everything about the hotel and bar

We really liked the size of the bedroom as well as the amenities offered. The bar tender that checked us in was also very kind and friendly. The location was also perfect close to the train station and different shops and the town centre. The pub is also playing awesome music.

The bathroom could be improved in terms of cleanliness. Since the room was for two people, it is better to provide two cups instead of one.

The room was excellent, large and clean and with a lovely window view, it was a really nice surprise as it was a last minute booking for work. One of the nicest rooms I have stayed in on Wakefield

Being hit on by men In the bar when I was just trying to get to my accommodation. The manager/owner was good at dealing with this and completely not the owners fault but as a solo traveller for work it was intimidating and it's a shame men have to ruin everything. It's really good accommodation

Excellent location, directly opposite large car park. Very short walk (5 mins)to centre of town. Really good beds. Spacious room. Very good price. Very friendly staff ( and customers). Well kept beer and very drinkable house white wine at stonking price. Beautifully restored external building.

It's a work in progress. Every time we go it gets better and better.

Giant, very comfortable bed, lovely, newly decorated, modern and spacious room and bathroom.

No waste paper bin in the room Only a tiny bit of toilet roll, so had to track down a staff member late at night to ask for more. On being checked in, I had settled in the room when a lady (assuming staff) used the keypad outside the room and walked in on me.

The room was lovely and beautifully decorated. Spotlessly clean room with all amenities needed.

The communal areas where you access the rooms from are tired looking and let the place down a bit as it isn't a true representation of the beautiful rooms.
