I have stayed at the hotel before, but just for one night in the main building. This time I stayed for 3 nights in one of the lodges at the back. The lodge was enormous, well-decorated and very clean. The shower was very good but I'd prefer a handheld option as well as the overhead. For the first two days the service at breakfast were very efficient but the third day seemed disjointed and slow which was disappointing, but the food was always good. It's reasonably veggie-friendly but not obviously vegan-friendly, however they were accommodating of requests so it's worth asking - they also had oat milk sachets for the drinks in the room which is very good. The cleaners were great - very efficient service while we were at breakfast on the days we were staying over, and I always appreciate it when cleaners work around my wishes such as leaving towels for reuse rather than automatically giving you fresh ones. The observatory event we attended was well-planned, very informative and useful. Overall, a great stay.

I'd prefer a handheld shower head and the duvet was a bit warm, but there was nothing that would put me off using the hotel again.

The atmosphere and organisation.Their interest in sustainability qas very impressive. The staff were professional but informal and obviously well trained. Really good.We loved the conservatory and outside area with bird feeders etc Wed like to go back for dark sky evening Our room was nice but rather small..fine for just 2 nights.

We were disappointed with the food..not as special as we'd expected for the price so only eat there the 1st evening.Even the breakfast was disappointing..Great service and care but soggy muffin for my egg and hollandaise (nothing special) and bread only fried on one side for husbands breakfast so strange texture.

We stayed for two nights in the luxury lodges. They are beautiful. Great size, immaculately clean with great facilities. Even a little tub of dog treats & poo bags for our fur baby. Now for the best bit.....the food at Battlesteads is unbelievable. The chef is so talented. They even grow so much of the produce right there in the garden. A little tip....at night go outside and look up at the sky, if it's a clear night, you're in for a treat. I've never seen so many stars. They even have an observatory. If you have an electric car, they have charging points for you. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did. Thank you to all at Battlesteads.

Nothing, all perfect.

Nicely decorated and looked well maintained in bedrooms and communal areas. Comfortable bed and good temperature. Breakfast felt more up market as it was not buffet style and service was good. Evening meal was to a high standard, obviously popular which gave it a nice atmosphere.

The allocated room was large and much better than expected, but the shower attachment leaked and sprayed water everywhere. They did move us to an alternative that while adequate was not as nice (no offer to try and fix the shower). Did not like that showers were the over the bath type which as I am getting older find harder to use, and having a broken wrist could not use at all on this visit (could have checked before booking though).

Lovely place and location. Good food. Good, friendly staff.

We stayed at this place in 2017. I know things change, but back then, it was a better stay and felt more of a luxury to stay there. The restaurant and bar felt like the standards were slightly lower this time compared to the last time we were here. Back then, the staff were in a smart uniform, and the dining felt slightly higher in quality. The decor felt tired and looked the same as before. I know I'm being picky, but I guess I'm entitled to an opinion. I need to stress the staff were great, what I have said in no way indicates otherwise.

Everything was great - really nice rooms, amazingly good food made with produce from the hotel's own garden (we had an evening meal and breakfast - both exceptional). The staff were very friendly and helpful and it is in beautiful surroundings. We also booked a stargazing session in their Darkskies Observatory which was very enjoyable as well (the observatory is on their property, but booked through a separate company). Overall, it was the perfect choice for us!

There was nothing to complain about at all. The location may be an issue for anyone without their own transport.

The hotel was super dog friendly and even provided treats for our furry friend in the room. We booked last minute as an overnight stay and were not expecting much. However, we were really surprised at how fantastic the hotel is. Our room was perfect; large, well decorated and so comfortable. As soon as we saw it we both agreed we had 'struck lucky'. The garden was a lovely retreat and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. After dinner we walked over the bridge, saw fish jumping in the river and heron hunting. The view from the bridge is stunning. Staff were friendly and the hotel atmosphere was really welcoming.. I can honestly say this place was the best value for money I have ever experienced in a hotel. We will definitely be returning.

We had the family room which had a great double bed and 2 singles. Very comfortable, good linen, ample room and ventilation. I love staying in pubs so the beer garden was lovely as was the great breakfast and lovely evening meal (a la carte) served in the pub. We stayed in the main building, there were some separate cabins as well. Friendly and efficient staff. Good beer and food selection.

There was a weird odour the room when we first checked in but this was gone when we returned an hour later. Maybe some trapped kitchen smell. It didn't spoil anything

Huge room with lots of facilities for tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc plus a small jar with some nice biscuits in. The restaurant seems to be a bit of a foodie destination and the food, although not cheap, is really good. There’s also a lovely courtyard out the back with big bird feeders in which is full of wildlife and very pleasant.

The system for breakfast isn’t great. Rather than a buffet system for cereals and drinks everything is waiter service. This means the staff are run off their feet and also you end up waiting for everything - so breakfast takes ages. The dining room is huge and could easily accommodate a buffet table so am not sure why it’s like this.

I stayed at Battlesteads in Wark as a base for visiting Kielder Observatory, and it was a great choice. The hotel has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and is ideally located for exploring the Northumberland countryside. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent—especially the locally sourced ingredients. My room was clean, comfortable, and peaceful, perfect after a night of stargazing. Would definitely recommend to anyone planning a trip to Kielder or the surrounding area.

Nothing! Everything was fabulous
