I stayed at the Reading Rooms as I needed somewhere local to Hexham for work. I literally booked at 4pm and Brian and Jill were amazingly accommodating to my late arrival and my last minute chaos. I text when I was a few minutes away and Brian greeted me after a very long drive with a smile and a lots of help and advice. I parked pretty much outside the front door and on checking in received the key to my room and the front door and a tour of the kitchen where I had my own shelf in the fridge, the ability to use the washing machine and access to fresh milk for me room. I was told I was welcome to cook and use the facilities as long as I cleaned up after myself. I eat at work but it was lovely to have the opportunity to even keep food fresh. My room was big and airy with fresh linen and a well stocked tea tray. There's a number of pubs across the way and the co-op is a minutes walk and the train station only a couple of minutes stroll. Brian was really helpful with tips on where else to eat, shop and visit even helping with my route to work. Nothing was too much trouble and it was lovely to feel so welcome. I will be back often and would recommend to anyone either on a break or working as it helped reduced my stress levels working away from home.
all was great if I needed anything hosts were on hand to help

I've had my eye on this place for a while waiting for an opportunity to visit, and it more than lived up to expectations :-). The location is great: our room looked right over the bridge and river and we enjoyed watching the varied bird life! Brian and Gill were very helpful and friendly, with excellent advice about visiting the historic old church up the hill and where to eat (General Havelock inn - excellent). We really liked the kitchen and dining room facilities - we'd brought our own breakfast supplies but if we had been taking up the continental breakfast option the supplies looked very good quality, including fresh fruit. Beds were comfortable, room spacious and well-equipped, bathroom clean and again spacious. Having small flasks for fresh milk to be brought up from downstairs for drinks in our room was a great touch.
Almost everything was perfect! The only slight drawback is that being on the old main road the street lights remain on all night - the curtains are very thick so block out most of the light but not quite all. Not much of a problem for me but might affect some people, I suppose.

Breakfast was DIY and I was shown what I could have the day before. Everything was there and I had a healthy fruit and yoghurt with toast, jam and tea. Nobody there to say goodbye to, already paid so took my bags to my car, left the key where I was asked to and shut the door and left. Comfortable room with three beds and two armchairs! No evening meal was offered and the host gave me a good rundown of the various options nearby.
I thought it was rather noisy as it was close to a busy roundabout with lorries and buses passing by. Parking was in the street

Quiet little town which is a good location for interesting sites at Hadrian's wall such as Vindolanda, Housesteads and Sycamore Gap walk. Excellent, healthy breakfast with fruit, yoghurt, cereals, toast and orange juice which you help yourself to. Access to kitchen and fridge very useful. Host met us and suggested nice walks. Room plain but comfortable with good shower and excellent tea-making facilities. We felt very well-looked after at the Reading Rooms.
Not many places to eat in town, although we enjoyed a meal at a pub the hosts recommended.

Almost everything! We stayed here our first night on our first trip to the UK, and it was a wonderful welcome! The town is small and picturesque, and the property is in a fantastic location—right on the river with an excellent view of the old bridge. It’s also on the main street, so access and parking were easy, even for my first time driving in the UK. The proprietor, Brian, was great, too! He had great suggestions on where to go in the area, and was friendly and welcoming, too.

The Reading Rooms is a charming little B&B, best suited to independent travellers who like to be out and about all day. Rooms are bright and airy each with their own en-suite shower rooms bathrooms . Guests have use of their own kitchen area where they can access all the makings for a quick do it yourself breakfast. There are a number of pubs restaurants and takeaways within easy walking distance for an evening meal ( The General Havelock is highly recommended) . Great fish and chips from the chippie over the bridge Brian the host is a lovely man and very knowledgable about the history of the area and has great tips for visiting the local attractions . There is ample on street parking which is also a bonus and the local train station is at the top of the road with regular trains to Hexham. Our only disappointment is we couldn't stay longer
can't think of anything

Outstanding availability of gluten free items, bed was extremely comfortable and clean, and the hosts were very accommodating. The idea of having a help yourself place felt a bit like a youth hostel, but actually this was perfect - and as we were staying with another couple for a wedding we could use this flexibility fully.
Everything was great.

Brian was brilliant. He picked us up at Once Brewed as we were running behind and dropped us off back there in the morning. It made a huge difference to our trip and saved us about 5hrs of wasted walking. Can't thank him enough. The Reading Rooms was perfect for our needs, clean and tidy, hot water and a perfect breakfast before we set off again the following morning.

It is well located in the centre of Hayden bridge. You might think being near the road it is noisy. It isn’t. The owners really look after the cleanliness and the breakfast is nothing to write home about but does the job. All in all I think this is a good place to spend 2-3 days. Well placed for Hadrians wall.
It doesn’t have a garden .. but that’s evident. Parking isn’t provided … but again there is plenty at the rear of the property regardless of its central location.

What a lovely place to stay when visiting Hadrian's Wall! We had a beautiful view overlooking the river and bridge. The room was large and comfortable. Brian, the owner, was very kind and generous with his time and allowed us to use the laundry facilities knowing that we'd been traveling for weeks. He's a fun and interesting conversationalist as well! We had a great time and would definitely stay here again!
