Apartment was very clean and quiet, bed really comfortable. Railway station was couple of minutes walk away. There was one problem we had with shower spoke to Susan over the phone and problem sorted out in no time at all - Thank you very much.
Not being told about restaurant and bar being closed up before we arrived as it was one of the things we considered when booking and then not being able to get a cooked breakfast. Not being able to meet any staff on premises.

Welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. The member of staff who greeted us showed us directly to the room which was a nice touch. Lovely furnishings with a huge and superbly comfortable bed. Shower was amazing with great water pressure. Nice breakfast with good options and an attentive but still relaxed host. Bonus that there is a separate door to come and go from. Next time we will go down to the bar and try the pizza. On street parking but we found a space. There is a wee shop and chemist nearby. Easy travelling distance to Hexham and to Hadrian’s Wall.

Pleasantly decorated spacious and comfortable room with modern en suite, including powerful shower. Good freshly cooked breakfast. Friendly management/staff. The hotel is also has a pleasant bar. The hotel is located in a small settlement near the main A69 route between Newcastle & Carlisle, ideal for exploring the area. Short drive to Roman settlement excavation sites and Hadrian's Wall as well as Hexham, where there are several restaurants and shops.
We booked this hotel because it also had a bistro restaurant, however on arrival we found that the restaurant had been permanently closed! Whilst booking.com notified us that the name of the hotel had changed, it would have been helpful to know in advance that there was also no longer food available. Our room was not serviced during our stay, but maybe our expectations were too high for a small hotel.

Room was a good size. Reasonably clean. Pillows were not comfortable and it could have done with a comfortable chair in the room. It was very hot and the tiny fan they supplied was ineffectual. The bathroom was a joke. So tiny you could hit your head off the sink while sitting on the toilet. The shower was big enough but the shower head was so high up that few women would be tall enough to reach it and the whole bathroom was not clean. Additionally, a ridiculous arrangement of straw on the only small shelf made it unusable. Breakfast was served in the bar which naturally smelled rather strongly of beer which is not the best start to the day for some. However, the breakfast was very good and wholesome and the only staff member we spoke to was lovely. We were travelling for business but took a break to visit Hadrian's wall en route. It was very well located for that.
The bathroom was too small and dirty. I always carry detergent wipes with me which I used to clean the surfaces and the toilet still had paper lying in it. There was signs of mould in the shower and the dark tiles are not a substitute for cleaning. Could have done with better pillows and a comfortable chair in the room. Needs air conditioning or a bigger fan. A little bit noisy before midnight as the Radcliffe room looked onto the main street and the window had to remain open to ventilate. However, window were only single glazed so noise was still obvious even with windows closed. I would not return to this hotel.

A very cold day when we arrived. The staff increased the room heating immediately. The room was beautifully fitted, compact, but very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. The only complaint was that the restaurant was not operating when we were there. Understandable, off season, mid week, etc but I would have been happier had I been advised in advance.
Room and service excellent. I understand and sympathize with the difficulties that the hospitality sector faces, however I would like to have been advised that the hotel did not have an operating restaurant at the time of our visit. The web site did not make this clear. In other respects all excellent.

Excellent clean accommodation with no trouble getting parked nearby. Super middle of country location to travel for days out and particularly so for Hadrian’s Wall at Homesteads. Bar manager was excellent maintaining a lively local clientele who were happy to provide recommendations as to how to access areas and where to eat (General Haverstock being a short walk) and good pubs when out and about.

All the staff were helpful and friendly and made us feel very welcome. A nice pub inside. The cooked breakfast was good with excellent quality produce, cooked beautifully; Also vegetarian and other alternatives available e.g. omlette etc. Our room and bathroom were both very clean, beds soft and comfortable, WiFi and TV both worked well. Our room had small touches such as a chocolate mint each, as well as a biscuit on the room tray. Town was very quiet at night, the church clock strikes each hour during the night but didn't disturb us. Good location, close to Hadrian's Wall and also Hexham. Nice old town, lots of history and the bridge and riverside setting is interesting too. We were offered a room upgrade on the day of our arrival.
Sadly the onsite Bistro Restaurant was not open and we were only informed of this after we had booked. Other restaurant options in the town seem a little limited, but there is a takeway fish and chip shop, so we used that and sat on a public bench by the river to eat, just a good job it wasn't raining. No onsite parking, parking is on the street and we struggled to get parked when we first arrived, but it did get quieter later in the evening. The range of beers seems a little limited, it would have been nice if there had been more local or craft beers available.

Great hostess and very comfortable room. Unfortunately the loo seat was slightly broken. We would have loved to stay there longer and have explored the area and Hadrians wall, but our schedule did not allow it. The hotel restaurant is not open any longer , but we were welcomed to eat a great pizza from the nearby fish and chip shop and were given cutlery to help. Breakfast was quite good and yet again the really friendly atmosphere generated by the hostess made the morning brighter despite the dark clouds and drizzle. All in, a very enjoyable overnight stay!
The drizzle, the broken loo seat and only having one sausage!

The staff & the adjacent pub were great. So sorry we missed the live music on New Year's Eve because he had already booked dinner elsewhere.
The room was directly next to the pavement and there was even a door leading directly from the street into our room. And the locks of both that door & the regular room door did not work well. Otherwise all good!

The Railway Hotel & Bistro was exactly what we were looking for, for a quick night in Northern England to visit Hadrian's Wall. The staff were fantastic and accommodating, we were able to get checked in quickly, and hung out in the restaurant for a pint later at night! The breakfast was amazing as well and quite a bit larger than I was expected. If you are in the area and looking for a great place to spend a night I would recommend them!
