i loved the location!!!!! my husband and i love the movie la la land, so the lighthouse cafe is our favorite part about visiting hermosa beach. Jay, the staff member who helped us check in, was so informative and even told us the person who build this hotel, also built the lighthouse!!! it was amazing to learn that kind of history about our favorite restaurant:)

everything was perfect for our trip, sadly we were only staying two nights, but the room we had was perfect for just that. nice and cozy, beautiful view of the ocean with nice open windows for an amazing cool ocean breeze. it was all perfect and we will be staying here again. jay was absolutely amazing , and we will always consider coming back here .

We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel. Like some previous reviews, it’s not your traditional hotel, although it has all the amenities that most hotels do. Including a room that’s clean and well kept, fresh towels, etc. The highlight of our stay was the view from our room; three windows directly facing the ocean, and being able to take a few steps outside of the hotel and be directly on the most gorgeous beach. There’s a beautiful walking path. You can walk miles and reach neighboring cities and beaches by foot, if you feel so inclined. The surrounding area at this beach, however, has everything you could ever hope for. Amazing food, shops, everything. This place is central to just about everything. We plan to stay here our next visit to Hermosa Beach. I would also say the highlight of this place is the staff. They were able/willing to make all the accommodations for us for our last-minute booking with ease. They were so welcoming. Thank you, Jay and Logan!

I loved how close it was to the beach & Hermosa pier. We met other family for lunch in Redondo & was so easy to just walk down the strand. We loved the historic feel of the place. Also it was laid back & easy to communicate with the hotel staff. Very close to so many restaurants. We were there for family in Torrance as well as Universal Studios, it was the best location.

Honestly this place is a historic gem. You can feel the joy of past humans who stayed there for a long time as apartment dwellers or for a short time. The attention to detail is top notch whether the fixtures are original 1920s or brought in later from the same time period. We did not mind the modern soft bedding, towels & Keurig at all!

I love old hotels with history. As with any old hotel it is a constant work in progress. But our room was spotless, the bed was comfy. We sat outside on the little patio out front and watched the sunset. The staff was amazing. It is about 3 blocks away from the pier and Hermosa Beach Plaza. Lots of choices for restaurants. Literally steps away from the sand. Check out the Hotels history and the story about William P. Verpillat. we were on the 2nd floor so opened our window to feel the beach breeze and hear the ocean. Internet connection was wonderful. I plan on staying there again. The price is very good for being right on the beach! I loved the personal touch from staff, like a text saying the room was ready and we could arrive anytime. She was very helpful with suggestions of places to eat and things to do.

it’s literally the most charming place I can even describe, and that’s not even the best part which is absolutely the staff and the guests…. no wait the guests are great but the staff, especially Jay and Nicole they’re both ready to go so far above and beyond!! which makes up for a couple quirks that obviously come with older charming buildings 😁…. but I’m not gonna lie; the quirkiness was my absolute favorite part!

was an architectural and historical Diamond that you just would not expect to find in that location for that price and this is where I’m going to stop because I don’t want you all in my place lol

The staff is wonderful and Jay makes sure that stay will be worry free. This hotel is one of a kind every room different, I feel like I am staying at friends house not a hotel. The rich history of this place is brought to life by the owner Jay. Everything about this place is warm and welcoming. Hermosa has very few beach front hotels, this one is a diamond in the rough. A true hidden GEM.

This place is awesome! Sitting literally on the beach, and a gorgeous five minute walk to the pier or downtown Hermosa Beach, it is oh so charming and just dripping with history and class. Family owned, and run by kind and friendly people eager to please and make sure you enjoy your stay, all for $150 a night. We had a quick overnight stay for a layover at LAX (about a 20 minute Uber ride) and almost stayed at a crappy chain hotel nearer the airport, but instead chose this. I’m so glad we did! Instead of being cooped up in another cheap hotel, we had a late night walk on the beach and pier, wandered up Main Street for some live music, and then caught a delicious breakfast on the beach at a great little spot called Good Stuff the next morning. We all agreed we would be back soon, but for a 3-4 day mini vacation instead of a layover. 100% would recommend!! Shout out to Jay and Nicole. Thank you! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Vurpillat!

There were some people partying at a house nearby that woke us up a few times in the night. This can happen anywhere of course, but I would encourage you to consider putting a small fan in each bedroom to add some white noise if needed for a better night’s sleep in case of a noisy situation like this. Still, we had a great time and will be staying again soon.

I like that the room kept its original charm. The customer service is great when checking in and parking is easy with the residential parking pass during your stay. The location is awesome and you are a very short walk to the beach. The room is comfortable and clean.

There is not much to complain about. I didn't like that the curtains were white and that the windows were older.

Jay was awesome. He let us know all about the parking pass, the room, and nearby spots to eat. My friend and I had the best time. The room was old school but it had so much charm. We did not hear anything from the other rooms or guests but we experienced seeing them enjoying the property as well. I loved the studio-style room and the apps loaded on the TV. You really can't get any closer to the beach than this. I will come back over and over again. Really loved this place.

The location is amazing! Right on the beach and walking distance to the Hermosa boardwalk and restaurants. Parking is a bit of a hassle because you are fighting beach goers but I was able to find a spot a few blocks away. Nicole is great at communicating and the room is cozy.

The room has no AC but there is a fan that did great. The shower in my room was very small so if you have a larger frame, it might be a bit tight with that particular room
