Friendly staff. Great location near a supermarket and the more expensive hotel where my event was happening. I liked having a refrigerator and microwave for breakfast and snacks. I appreciated the supplied dishes. The full kitchen downstairs would have been a big plus if I was not attending an event. It had the feel of an older European hotel in a smaller town - older building, no elevator, etc. I loved it, but others might not.

The room was cozy, as advertised, and great for 1 person. If might have felt a bit cramped with 2 people and especially their luggage. Quite a nitpicking item, but there were 2 hooks in the room with clothes hangers, which was great since there wasn't any storage space, but they were a bit too close together so that the hangers from each hook overlapped. A better setup would be to have the hooks just 4-5 inches further apart.

location close to the beach and downtown. loved the free bicycles. comfy bed. large room. loved the flavored ice water in the lobby. microwave and fridge were a plus for our leftovers. felt safe.

the ac unit sprayed water out at all hours of the day and night. first night it happened, it got all of our clothes, shoes, etc. soaking wet. had to use every towel we had in the room to clean it up the best we could. told the front desk 3 times and they kept saying they’d send someone to fix it. but it never got fixed til our last night there. we just kept putting all our towels down every day and night to soak up the water. had to try and jump over the mess every time we had to use the bathroom they promised to give us a discount after ruining our clothes/shoes, but that never happened. other than that, everything else was great.

Great location, amazing staff, and loved the "strangeness" of the property (i.e. not a normal hotel that most are used to seeing). Lots of stuff around the property.

All that was left was a "Budget Room". Everything was clean and comfortable but a bit small. It was like a Citizen M had a child with a retro hotel. Room did not have a desk and I needed one for work. They offered to find me one but I ended up getting one on Amazon and leaving it there so Room#7 is now an "executive room" :) Only place to hang anything was on the TV. Might want to add a few hanging pins in the wall for the future like they do at the Moxy brand.

From the moment we arrived the staff was very warm and inviting although we arrived about 6 hours prior to check-in. The staff took our luggage and offered us tea/coffee and even gave suggestions for breakfast while we waited for our room to become available. The hotel was right in the area we needed it to be with an awesome price tag associated with the room. Great stay!

The hotel as a whole was pretty nice, in a good location and at a good price. The only thing that I was not a fan of was the fact that there was no elevator and we were on the 3rd floor. Credit to the hotel as they had our bags brought up to the room while we were out for breakfast however, it was all on us on the day of check out.

Classic old hotel. Understand this is a classic old style hotel and should be appreciated for what it is. Great location, immaculate room, friendly staff. Hot water has a long way to travel to get to your shower…..be patient, it’s worth the wait. And appreciate that you have a private bathroom in your room. That’s a new thing that old hotels didn’t have. They added it. Fantastic location. Park your car and leave it, you won’t need it. Will stay every time I’m in Long Beach. I seldom write reviews, but this property and its staff deserves one.

This hotel is definitely worthy of a 10. It’s a bit like a cross between a hotel and a hostel so don’t expect it to be 5 star accommodation. It’s a historic hotel which has been renovated and conserved so it still has no lift and has fairly small basic rooms (although our room was very comfortable and clean and ticked all the boxes). What it does have is art everywhere intermingled with certificates and awards for its contribution to the conservation of the Long Beach area as well as for its contribution to the arts and the community. Every member of staff we encountered was brilliant, always welcoming, considerate and eager to help. On the ground floor there is a big modern kitchen for general use by guests which includes numerous styles of coffee machines as well as a giant cooker, fridge etc. Next to that is a room kitted out with workstations. Coffee was always offered whenever we passed through reception as well as iced water flavoured by fresh fruit. We are in our seventies so don’t think this is a place only for young people!

My husband and I were very happy with this hotel for the price. The location was perfect considering we could walk down the road to the grocery store or Starbucks and pick up whatever we needed. During the walk we were very surprised to see that looking down the road we saw our gigantic Carnival cruise ship that looked to be so close although it was a good 5 to 7 minute drive. I did ask the worker if it was safe to walk around at night and she said because it was a weekend there should be plenty of people out and it would be fine. I would recommend taking a short uber ride to Shoreline Village to walk along the pier, visit the shops and maybe have a little dinner or an ice cream. We would definitely stay here again. It wasn’t perfect but it was clean and I saw nothing in this price range in the area. Just make sure that you can walk up a pretty steep staircase to your room. There are no elevators in this beautiful older hotel. Some of the reviews make me unsure if every room has an en suite bathroom. Ours certainly did. Thank you so much Hotel Royal! I interacted with two or three different staff members during my stay, and they were all super friendly and helpful. The studio room was tiny but had everything I needed to be comfortable (tiny bathroom with shower, mini fridge, microwave) and was generally clean. For example, the sheets were clearly freshly washed and the floor was vacuumed/washed, but there was dust on the ceiling fan and other harder to reach areas.

The room itself could use a little love- lots of chipped paint, the ceiling fan was hard to turn off, water drained super slowly- but for the price, it was good.

Great location. I was able to walk to restaurants, grocery store, and the pier. The Metro rail was one block away. My room was decorated with contemporary furniture and I really liked the handheld shower option in the bathroom. The bathroom mirror was a lighted make up mirror and there was a full length mirror behind the bathroom door. The room was equipped with refrigerator, microwave, and a couple of plates, wine glasses, and utensils. This ranks as one of my best hotel experiences.

Room was very small and very basic, don’t expect luxury if you get a cheaper room, no hanging space and small not very private bathroom, no lift but helpful staff to help carry luggage…tried to upgrade as I stayed before and after cruise but didn’t get email confirmation back till after cruise and couldn’t then confirm that I wanted upgrade…all in all if your happy with basics at a smaller cost and it’s just for a couple of nights then stay, if you’re staying longer then upgrade to a larger room
