This lovely old style motel was unbelievable! We had a huge double room, with lounge, kitchenette and monster bathroom with spa bath as well as biggest shower on our trip! Dinner in pub restaurant which formed part of the complex was excellent- the biggest and best seared scallops ever! All staff were very welcoming and this was a great way to start our fall trip oif a lifetime. Thanks to all!

Absolutely nothing!

I appreciate the late check in and the room key taped to the door. I also appreciated the individual access (didn't need to walk up and down hallways). They were quick to return phone calls and for the value this place was perfect.

Bathroom sink was clogged and there was some trash in the room.

My spouse and I have stayed here three nights now. The first time we stayed, it was for 2 nights. Our room was great; without any hassle, it was neat and clean, simple, comfortable and cozy, quiet and peaceful, and offered a great price point. Our third stay here, has been pretty relaxing 😊. I plan on coming back to stay anytime I want/need a hotel room in the area and I would definitely suggest a stay at The 1896 House Country Inn.

The dirt road, leading to the office, could be filled and raked in. The little dirt road itself is rustic and adds charm (just as well as the little brook/creek) ,so it just needs to be preserved. The landscape could use a little TLC as well, nothing too major.

The room was super clean! We came a little later than check in time and the key was left in the envelope for us. This was very nice and helpful. The coffee pot and a working refrigerator were a big plus to the room.

Would love to have a microwave in the room.

The beds had crisp white sheets and they were very comfortable. The room stayed warm and cozy all night, in February, despite the winter weather. A charming, rustic atmosphere. The bathroom was very clean. Wonderful hot shower with sliding doors.

It was difficult to charge our electronics due to the old sockets. The only one that worked well for that purpose was in the bathroom. Next door to our room stayed a couple of smokers. They did not smoke in their room, but unfortunately one was coughing and talking loudly, which woke one of us up at 4 am :(

We always look forward to our stays there, especially dinner in the pub and sitting in Adirondack chairs alongside the stream afterwards, drinking wine from those plastic bathroom cups. Life gets no better than this. The rooms are good for the price but the rest is priceless.

Old fashioned accommodations complete with wooden walls and patchwork quilts. The location is near the Clark Art museum and Williams College. Price was extremely reasonable and staff was friendly.

Loud refrigerator so we unplugged it.

This was my favorite place to stay on our whole trip! Settled in the beautiful Berkshires, we got 2 rooms for the price of 1 room (on most of our vacation). Beautiful flowers, great restaurant across the street with good seafood, and the nicest lady that checked us in. 😊

No breakfast….but for the price of the hotel it wasn’t a big deal.

My son and I were traveling from Sweden to Vermont to visit my father, who moved to the Veterans Home in Bennington just before the pandemic started. We needed a place to stay near Bennington, after the long flight to NY and drive up to Vermont, and found the 1896 motel. It was a gem! Excellent reception, although we arrived very late and a letter and the key were waiting for us; a lovely, traditional, comfy room, great beds and a modern, fully functional bathroom. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. We will come back again and would recommend this to all travelers. We also loved the outdoor rocking chairs, a great place to relax and to get out our laptops, and enjoy the high speed internet to connect with our family (as we did not have a local phone number or mobile that worked in the US.) Thank you for the wonderful stay.

Nothing. The room design, size, colours of the room and bathroom, the trees, garden, view and quiet, and comfort factors (comfy chairs, bed, desk, etc. etc.) were perfect.

The property has a nice aroma from flowers, plants and trees

1. need instructions for using Roku. Couldn't find channels I wanted to watch. 2. Check in needs to have menus for pub. Otherwise meal discount is useless.
