The room was spacious with a large balcony. The indoor fireplace made it cozy and the upscale nautical theme was well done. Location is perfect for walking to most attractions and restaurants. We didn’t use the saunas but it’s an extra that many might love. Valet parking is affordable and the welcome glass of champagne was a nice touch. The salmon chowder at the hotel restaurant was outstanding.
The only downsides to the room we had were stains on the carpet in one area and a sketchy shower head. However, we were awakened by very loud noises ( think t-Rex stomping) which shook the room and lasted about an hour. We were told in the morning that passing ships cause the pylons to bang into the building. It was disconcerting and impossible to sleep through.

Being that close to the enormous and powerful Columbia River was a magical experience… the Bowline’s simple and contemporary design of the converted cannery structure allows you to focus on the main event (the river and all its ship traffic) whether from your own riverfront room, the Knot Bar and hotel lobby or their spacious outdoor deck areas. The hotel in general and our River View King room actually exceeded my expectations and were nicer in person than in pictures. For one, both the property and our room were spotlessly clean. The staff was warm and friendly (without being obsequious) and greeted us with a welcome glass of Prosecco at check in. Arrival and offloading luggage was convenient with several short term parking spaces available right at the front door. We found free overnight street parking less than one block away. No sea lions were in attendance that night and our room midway down the ground floor hallway was very quiet. The mattress was apparently some type of memory foam and was a new experience for us but it still had adequate back support and we slept well. In-room pour over coffee and tea service was appreciated but the barista in the lobby bar made the best latte I had on our entire trip.
Most of the menu items were unavailable the evening we arrived and so we settled for some focaccia which was very thick and more like corn bread. Breakfast options were fairly limited as well and we made the bad decision to wander down the trolley line to the Riverwalk Cafe for a more traditional breakfast. Please DO NOT make that same mistake!

The hotel looks really cute inside and outside. It's in a great location, right on the water, and walkable to everything in town. The in-room fireplace was cozy (although it only turned on when heat was needed according to the thermostat vs. an ambiance fireplace). The white noise machine and earplugs perfectly covered up any seal or neighbor noise. The free glass of bubbles when you checked in was a thoughtful surprise. Loved the saunas and the view of the water from them. The GM clearly loved her job and was passionate about service.
This hotel could be even better if there was more soundproofing, not just the seals but I could hear the person snoring in the room next to me with clarity as if they were in my room. Cozy rugs/rug pads to make it feel warmer in the rooms. Faster service at the bar, we waited about 30 minutes to get a drink. If you love super-soft beds you'll love these ones, sadly, I won't come back because of it (just tooooo soft). The bathroom has slider doors, so you can hear everything the person is doing inside while you are outside. The oceanview rooms have nice seating outside, it would be so dreamy if there was an overhang to block the rain so you could use it.

The location was absolutely amazing. Rooms right on the water, and the views couldn't have been any better. The room was industrial chic and very unique. The beds were some of the most comfortable I've ever experienced. The shower was amazing, and we got a room with an extra bathtub with a view of the river! The amenities were all excellent, and the food was delicious as well. My wife and I were thrilled about how dog-friendly they were. It was also evident that this is a very LGBTQ+ friendly establishment, which we love.
There was nothing we didn't like, but if we had anything to nitpick, it would be that the fan that was provided was very dirty, and we had to wipe the blades off.

Our main purpose of booking this property was to check out the barrel saunas (I even called to make sure they were working before I booked). Unfortunately there was a mechanical issue and they were out of commission when we checked in. The front desk was very understanding and offered us the opportunity to try out the same saunas at their sister property in Long Beach (Adrift). They informed the hotel we would be coming and we headed over there. We appreciated their accommodation and enjoyed viewing their other property. Afterwards we came back to Bowline to order dinner from The Knot - the Sliced Rosemary Duck was fabulous, also enjoyed the Butternut Squash Tarte Tatin. Creamy Potato Leek Soup. The bed was very comfortable and the fireplace made the room cozy.
We enjoyed our stay, just be aware the floor is concrete...cold on your feet, but they do provide slippers. Also be aware that parking is on the street as this property is on on dock pilings with the resident sea lions nearby (ear plugs and noise cancelling machine are provided).

Beautiful views, clean, very comfortable, very well appointed, luxurious bedding, lots of thoughtful touches, lovely fireplace.
A word of caution for very light sleepers: there are many sea lions living around the property. They are funny, but they bark all night long. The hotel does the best they can to mitigate the noise by providing earplugs and a noise machine, but they can still be heard. My husband slept through it no problem, but they woke me from time to time.

The room was absolutely amazing. We will definitely come back again. The people were all very kind.
Only tough part is there’s no actual parking. But it’s not like you have to walk very far for street parking and stuff like that. It’s a hotel on the water downtown. We parked once pretty much and then walked everywhere. Some people complained about the sea lions, we were on the riverside and they usually congregate on the track side of the hotel. But we didn’t find them a nuisance. They have a wonderful sound machine in the room and even sea lion earplugs. But we didn’t need to use either at least not to drown out the sea lions. We use the sound machine just because it was relaxing.

We stayed in The Bowline Hotel with a friend just one night, and it was a great experience! Amazing location, very comfortable bed and good shower. Food and drinks at the bar are great, there is really no point of leaving the site :) Sea lions are right below you since the hotel is at the pier. I personally thought it was cool, but it might get too noisy if you are a sensitive sleeper. Earplugs are provided in the room.
Nothing at all!

Location. The view! Staff. Room was very comfortable. Loved the French press coffee. The food - espresso the breakfast- was amazing. Loved the sauna too!!!
Shower. Horrid. Really no pressure and it was impossible to get all of your body in it. Cold entire time. It also dripped, but the staff came and made it stop. Replace the shower heads! Even making it hand held would help. Bathroom also had bad smell… like sewer. Walls are thin, but was quiet at night, so not a big deal.

Very cute new hotel in a great location in old-town touristy Astoria. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable
Noise from the seals (under the dock, on which the hotel is located) was quite striking. The hotel provides earplugs and a white noise machine, and it was fine for us. But if you are sensitive to this, you should consider another place. It was super fun to see the seals right under the dock, however!
