My wife planned a trip for us, but she died before our planned travel dates. Even though it was difficult, I honored her plans and went alone. I was not used to traveling alone, and the hotel staff understood my deep grief and took care of me as if they were my family. The concierge, the front desk, and the restaurant staff were very nice to me. The housekeeper who did my turn-down service in the afternoon became my family. They all helped me through the most difficult time in my life. The staff working in the downstairs spa also listened to my story about my wife and were very kind. They all helped make my trip one of the most memorable.

Beautiful hotel, with a grandiose lobby area! Staff was extremely friendly, and the reception service was perfect. I chose valet service, and it didn’t disappoint. The suite was dated but quite large, with lots of closet space. The bed was firm and comfortable, with fresh smelling high quality sheets and pillows. The Swamp Fox restaurant was a real treat! A real pianist made it feel fancy! The manager sat me just where I wanted to be, and my coffee cup was never empty. I had the Charleston Omelette for the first time, which was delicious. Waitstaff was certainly attentive and friendly. The hotel is right in the middle of everything fun! Shops, restaurants, bars, and a square are minutes away on foot.

The bathroom area is in desperate need of a renovation. Nothing was dirty, but it felt like it was. Fixtures seemed very old, The drain in the tub was strange and had an aftermarket rubber tortilla sitting on the edge of the tub for bath taking. and the toilet looked cobbled together with urinal parts. Very very tiny bathroom for such a large suite. The doorways had many coats of paint, attempting to hide decades of wear. Nicks, scratches, and ‘character’ marks were on each door. The walls were not soundproof. I could hear the neighbors talking (not well enough to know what they were saying, but still), as well as movement above.

Close to everything! Valet staff were all great. And Neil at the front desk was amazing!

We didn’t get the room we reserved but they accommodated us the best they could. The sink had a huge crack in it and the soap dish was also chipped.

The hotel itself was absolutely beautiful, filled with historic charm and elegant details that gave it a unique character. One added convenience was the Starbucks right next to the lobby, which made grabbing a morning coffee easy before heading out. Although the room was on the smaller side, it was functional and made smart use of space. The beds were very comfortable, and we slept well overall. We did notice a bit of hallway noise at times, so we’d recommend using a white noise app just in case, but the hotel was generally quiet. The location couldn’t have been better. From the hotel, we were able to branch out in all directions and explore everything Charleston has to offer. Whether walking to historic landmarks, dining spots, or shops, everything felt wonderfully accessible. Wonderful staff, very helpful. All in all, this was a lovely and memorable stay in a truly special place.

This hotel is well located. We had a 1 bedroom suite which was huge with lovely views over the park and of the bell tower. Sofa bed was comfortable for the kids. The bathroom is small but functional, we had no problem with it. The park had markets on one morning and we could walk to all the main sights/tours we wanted to do eg. Rainbow row, foreshore, carriage rides, walking tour etc.

As the hotel is on a Main Street, the valet section is small and when we turned up it was full, so we had to wait further down the street till some of the cars were moved.

The hotel lobby is beautiful and spacious. The staff was very welcoming and professional. They made you feel right at home and were very accommodating to your needs. The housekeeping was there everyday making sure the room was clean and maintained properly. Very friendly as well. The staff in the Swamp Fox restaurant were excellent. Very attentive and making sure you had anything you wanted. Food was delicious, breakfast, lunch, and dinners.

Very little spaces to unload your luggage since it was on major streets. Very crowded unloading and loading spaces during peak times. Had to circle a couple times looking for a space to unload.

The food at swamp fox restaurant was superb along with the staff.

There was one waitress who pushed the buffet and for us to just sign our room number. I didn’t appreciate that at all. The bathroom was exceedingly small. There were no accessible rooms with two beds. When I booked the room through booking.com it was $300 a night. Then when we stayed there booking.com had it advertised as$200 a night. The property was unable to give me an adjustment because I went through booking.com.

This is Charleston's grand hotel and it is pure elegance located in the middle of historic Charleston. The room was spacious and quiet. The bed was VERY comfortable. We enjoyed both room service as well as their restaurant.

This hotel really needs a space to tell its wonderful history. Other hotels of this vintage do and we always enjoy finding out more. The gift shop is...well...forgetaboutit. The really don't have one and this is another missed opportunity for this excellent propertyy.

The location was central and within walking distance of many cultural buildings and shopping. Friendly and helpful staff. The room was nice, roomy and clean.

The bathroom was like a closet, only big enough for one person.

The location was more than perfect. Right in the middle of shopping and restaurants.

Parts of the hotel are ready for some updates, but don't let that keep you from staying here
