I had such a wonderful stay at the Port Elliot YHA. From the moment I arrived, the hosts went above and beyond — they remembered me from a previous visit and kindly upgraded me to a quiet room with ocean views and an ensuite, which was exactly what I needed. Their thoughtful check-ins and clear communication made everything feel easy and relaxed. The room itself was simple, clean, and just perfect. What truly stood out though was the shared kitchen and dining area — spacious, beautifully set up with multiple cooking spaces, and incredibly well-equipped. Each morning, I sat with my breakfast overlooking Horseshoe Bay, feeling so nourished by the view and the calm. I’m so grateful for the care and attention to detail that made this stay feel like a homecoming. I’ll definitely be back.

Amazing location overlooking horseshoe bay! Room was very clean with fresh linens. Staff were absolutely amazing. I really loved how eco friendly this place was, the free veggie/herb patch out the back, the lemon tree and the chickens! :) Bathroom facilities were ample. This is an old character building so it has its quirks, but it was such a quiet, peaceful and refreshing stay, met some wonderful people, and had some great walks around town! I regret not staying longer so I could spend more time at the beach and catch the cockle train, so I hope to come back next time for a little longer! Great for a weekend away or family trip away!

Backyard could use a bit of TLC and some minor repairs around the place, but was no big deal! Fly screen in room might need a tiny patch, as I woke up with a mozzie attacking me on my 2nd last night. Overall though was a fantastic stay! Thanks :)

The facilities are clean and rooms are basic but comfortable. Staff is wonderful and the location is unbeatable.

We were a group of 9 people in different rooms and unfortunately, some of us barely slept, due to a party hosted in the house right next hostel, till around 2 am. Also, due to the loud music and people yelling, we had to close the window and the room was very warm. I understand this is not the hostel responsibility but reporting this behaviour to the neighbours will definitely help to prevent it in future. We aim to have a relaxed stay in such location and it is important to respect others rest after 10pm as stipulated.

Lovely clean room with en suite shower. Well equipped kitchen. Plenty of seating and dining space.. Big communal area for socializing although some people were clearly wanting to be quiet which stilted some conversation sadly. Great mix of travellers in a most pleasant, well kept environment.

People stomping around at midnight in the corridors with absolutely no regard for people who were asleep or snoozing. The same in the mornings, 5.30 alarm is fine if you need it, of course....but slamming doors and stomping about so my bed physically shook, is that necessary? This happened for both the nights I was there together with loud telephone conversations on the landing outside my room, I could hear both the caller and recipient perfectly whilst inside my room. Not quite as relaxing as I had envisaged but there were some lovely guests and the house is very nice.

Location opposite the beach and lovely balcony upstairs with ocean views. The whole property was so clean inside and the wooden floorboards gave it so much character. The kitchen/pantry area was well equipped with shelves for your food and cooking utensils. This is the best youth hostel I’ve ever stayed in. I also liked the atmosphere with a number of families staying. Staff were welcoming. Highly recommend and felt very safe as a solo traveller.

Location and the downstairs area . It’s a great hostel in a beautiful location . Staff were very nice . Lots of nice walks and swimming spots nearby .

Window didn’t stay open, sashes were broken and fly screen ripped . We propped it open with the garbage bin . If we couldn’t have done this room would have been very stuffy . They either need to be fixed or be provided with something to hold it open .

Amazing location, beautiful building and great value for money. Check in was easy, the rooms were comfy and sufficient for hostel accommodation.

Lots of noise at night, even during the prescribed 'quiet hours', yelling and loud music either by guests or neighbours. Understandable for a hostel but in such a quiet tranquil location this was a shame.

Lovely, fantastic location as so close to horseshoe bay, different walking trails and sightseeing views, amazing and friendly reception staff who gives awesome recommendations, last-minute booking for 1 night before a public holiday is really handy, common room allows for a different experience for the family, free pantry and fridge supplies like fresh milk and coffee in the common kitchen

The squeaky floors, but there are plenty of signs and warnings, and it is an awesome experience for the kids to lift their feet when going up the stairs. No aircon, so a bit stuffy.

Lovely old building with good facilities and balcony with sunrise views over the water. The beds were comfy and the room stayed lovely and warm despite the cold wind blowing outside!

Not a lot of bathrooms, but we never had to wait for showers, so wasn’t an issue. Wasn’t much to not like, wouldn’t definitely stay again!

A lovely old guesthouse feel, with good lounge and kitchen facilities. We are a couple in our 60s and chose The Suite, which included a king bed, bathroom and a small living area, with a fridge. The highlight was the balcony overlooking Horseshoe Bay. We were made to fell very welcome.
