The room was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. We had excellent views of the water and trees. The food in the pub was good value and had good sized portions. The two staff members we encountered were friendly, polite and attentive. We also enjoyed a couple of drinks by the log fire in the pub. We observed a number of negative reviews about the Fox and Hounds, but we are all positive on it. I wonder if some people wanted, or were expecting, a 5 star experience for 3 star prices.
No issues at all for us.

The room was lovley and clean. It was a nice large room and had a great view of the lake. Staff were friendly. Was really close to Port Authur and the Pennicott Journey's starting point. Close to a general store and cafe as well. TV also worked really well. The brown water was the result of tannins from their water source as Port Authur have no town water. It was absolutely fine to shower in, and we were provided with adequate drinking water for our stay.
The food at the restaurant was a definite miss for us. Very overpriced and not the greatest quality. However, they have basic facilities to get by in the room, such as a microvave and kettle, and also had a great takeaway / cafe up the road.

We liked the style of the place - it felt authentic. We stayed there after a day at the Port Arthur historic site. We were going to the ghost tour that night so it was excellent to stay nearby and not risk wildlife strike at night. The beds were AMAZING and we appreciated that plenty of bottled water was provided since the tap water isn't suitable for drinking. Also, the location is so peaceful being surrounded by wilderness.
Unfortunately there aren't many gluten free options in the area but that isn't the fault of this establishment- they were as accommodating as they could be.

We enjoyed our 2 nights at your establishment , it was very clean , warm & the staff very friendly .
The first night we had our meal in the restaurant , it was a nice meal & we loved the warm fire & friendly people . The second night we decided to stay in our room and thought we would get a take away meal . Well this is where we were so disappointed . I had a chicken shnitzel with chips & salad . Well I am sorry the chicken was no more than a $2.00 supermarket one , a small amount of coleslaw & topped up with chips . To charge $31 for this was very overpriced .

Drove to Fox and Hounds from Cambridge having flown in the evening before. Arrived before scheduled check-in but given room. It was explained to us that the tap water should not be drunk and that bottled water was available from reception. Our room was in a separate annex to the main building with superb views through the trees to the water's edge, parking outside the door. Comfortable bed and all facilities, good storage and mini-kitchen. Best of all was the feature window and the view with two comfortable chairs to relax in. Close to Port Arthur, and offering restaurant and bar facilities which we enjoyed. Ideal location to explore Port Arthur and the range of walks, boat trips and cafe/restaurants nearby.

Gorgeous, old building on the inside and out with beautiful original features! It was related, cosy and we had a warm welcome at the Fox and Hounds! The room was comfortable with a stunning view right beside the trees and water! The full wall was a window with a view right beside the bed bringing nature into the room! The decor in the restaurant was so unique and quaint with old paintings, artwork and a fireplace. We dinner after the Cape Huay trek -local oysters which were delicious and then steak and chips followed by sticky date pudding. Service was quick and the food was great! Lovely staff!
If I was to make the property better I would definitely suggest music playing in the restaurant to give it some atmosphere. It was very quiet and bizarre sitting in silence even though the place was busy enough it had an awkward feel because of the lack of music. Someone playing music like a guitar or harmonica etc would suit it so well and the fire on, even in the summer would be beautiful. I would also suggest table service to create more of a “taken care of” service and atmosphere to let people enjoy the environment. A revamp of the bathrooms and more soundproofing in the rooms would make the stay feel warmer and more intimate and cosy. All in all would stay again we would definitely recommend!

New management had only been at property 1 week and they were still finding their feet. Staff were very helpful and positive about the future. Dinner was from a limited menu but well prepared. Location was perfect for a stay in Port Arthur and other Tasman Peninsula sights. The night sky was so clear and were were treated to an amazing display of the Aurora Australis while we were there. Wishing them the best for the future.
Previous owners had clearly cut back on maintenance before leaving, so new owners have a lot of work ahead of them. Light next to the bed wasn't working and no potable water in the room. Staff made us aware of this and there was ample bottled water in the room.

Room 15. We unfortunately didn’t stay due to an issue totally unrelated to the hotel but checked in. The owner checked us in and advised us about the water, told us there was bottled water in the room and we were welcome to refill inside the bar area for free or purchase more for $1 from reception. Advised it was best to use air con due to midges. The room was clean and had a water view. The bed appeared comfortable with clean bedding. Bathroom was clean and well stocked.
Slight musty smell in room.

The Room was beautiful and the price was fantastic. Had a Lake View which was lovely. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were very lovely and helpful.
The price of the food and drink - make sure you take your gold card if you eat at the Venue! Food was nice but $51 for a Parma and Cider are a little steep. (The meals are are just a little overpriced and then add a Sunday surcharge and then a credit card (actually a Debit card) surcharge. Oh well..... what you save on the room you put back into dinner!

Location was great. I was drawn to the tudor style pub which is what made me book there. The lake view from our room was beautiful, but glad we only stayed one night.
Not knowing prior that the tap water was not drinkable. They did provide bottled water however everywhere else the tap water was fine. The pictures showed the pub which has nothing to do with the actual accommodation buildings. A bit of a let down, but not the be all, end all. The pub is beautiful however the food was disgusting. We didnt finish out meals, and i eat almost anything, and we were up all night running to the toilet. The parking gets busy. We went out and came back to no car parking and cars trying to fit in anywhere.
