Absolutely wonderful stay. Exceeded expectations. Not only the stunning property, which is very special, but the excellent location, close to everything you would want to see in Brugge. Most of all, I have to mention the absolutely lovely hosts. We were made so very welcome, and provided with a great overview of what to do and where to go in the city upon arrival. And the breakfast.... oh the breakfast! Good lord, it was wonderful. The hosts could not have been more helpful, kind, friendly or accommodating. It's one we will remember for a long time and certainly will be advising friends/ family to stay at if they are in Brugge. I don't tend to write a lot of reviews, but on behalf of me, my partner and the friends we were travelling, we wanted to share what a wonderful experience we had staying here.

I honestly can't think of a single thing.

John and his brother are hoteliers of the highest caliber. You can tell how much attention to detail went into the space, with period-appropriate pieces throughout the property. We had a truly lovely stay and experience here. Their recommendations were invaluable, and when we continued on to Amsterdam, John provided some wonderfully unique suggestions. Breakfast was a real treat — the pastries were excellent, and the dishes were both delicious and satisfying. A charming stay overall; we would return in a heartbeat and hope they open more properties with the same warmth and character.

The owners and family were exceptionally friendly and helpful and tried to do everything they could to make my stay perfect. From the checking-in process, when they shared their recommendations and went through the city map with me until I was checking out when I was also able to leave my luggage there while I went to explore some more. The breakfast was outstanding, and I was so sad that I was always too full to be able to try everything offered. Also loved the location. It was about 10 minutes walk (with short legs) to the main square and most of the other main sights, and 3 minutes to a main shopping area. I only had time to try 2 of the bars that were within 5 minutes walk from the B&B that were also amazing - one with an amazing atmosphere and the other a beautiful cocktail bar. I felt safe walking around that area relatively late by myself (whilst avoiding tiny, quiet side streets). The history of the house, with its antiques and gorgeous breakfast room, made it a privilege to stay there while being comfortable with the modern bathrooms and AC.

The bed was a little hard, and the pillows were a little flat. However, I didn't mention that to the owner/family, so they didn't have the opportunity to correct that. There were enough pillows so that I could double/triple up, so that wasn't a huge problem. It was a shame that there is no elevator as I would have loved to stay in the top bedroom suite (although my room was beautiful too) as the top set of stairs is a little tight. However, that is the trade off with an historic home.

I can't say enough good things about Huis 'T Schaep and about John, one of the owners and our host. John and Rob have restored the former home and studio of famous glass artist Samuel Coucke with such love and attention. It felt like we were staying in an exquisite home of friends who couldn't do enough for us. The art and stained glass were museum quality--I couldn't stop taking pictures of everything. The breakfast was outstanding, and I highly recommend people include it. The room where breakfast is served is enough to warrant a '10' rating for this property. The location was excellent, as well, minutes away from everything. Definitely ask John for his recommendations for dining and where to buy hand-made chocolates (rather than the more commercial places).

We loved everything about the property except getting there from the train station. We walked when we arrived, but we took a taxi when we left. While this property is within walking distance of the train station, the historic cobblestones are everywhere, and it really isn't pleasant to have to roll one's bag over them for long. We learned the hard way.

In late January and early February we stayed at Samuel Coucke's house in the heart of Bruges, close to the Cathedral of St Salvatore. Despite its central location, the house and garden were surprisingly peaceful. The 19th-century building, which combines a 16th-century coaching inn with a 17th-century manor house, is a magnificent example of neo-Gothic architecture. Samuel Coucke, who bought and renovated the house in 1855, created stained glass windows for markets all over the world. Huis 't Schaep is now a luxurious private guest house offering a unique combination of boutique hotel amenities and personal touches. A delicious breakfast was served in a beautiful room with access to the impressive terrace that was once Samuel Coucke's own studio and reception area. The location was perfect, with the main attractions, shops and restaurants just a few steps away. John, our host, is a beautiful soul who truly loves this house and its neo-Gothic style. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend staying here if you are visiting Bruges.

Simply a great experience on a human and art level.

We both had a fantastic 3 nights here, John and Michael are the perfect hosts and provided a level of service beyond anything we had experienced before. They made our stay very special and we couldn't fault anything at all. The location is perfect being a short stroll from the train station and on a lovely quiet street but it is also right near the centre so everywhere is easily walkable. Breakfast was a real treat and so plentiful that we always left completely satisfied and full up! Highly recommended if you are planning a trip to beautiful Bruges.

Nothing, it was perfect.

The room was beautifully decorated, with artfully restored works of the artisan who built the house (I think). It is very much in keeping with the church aethetic in the area. The location is brilliant - walking distance to everything, not that Brugge is a big city, but it's nice to be close to everything but far enough away to get a good night's kip. Breakfast was included, and more than kept us going well past lunchtime. It was served by the proprietor who was happy to give hints and tips on how to spend the day with suggestions for dinner. Water pressure was good, wifi was good, mattress was good, breakfast was good, location was good. 5/5 perfect.

We was upgraded to a Four Poster Suite which was really big and comfortable. The bed was so comfortable too. The breakfast was really lovely ,Toast, Fresh Pastries, Egg and Bacon, Cereal with yogurt and fruit. lovely coffee and fresh orange juice. The location was good, we parked our car in a nearby car park for the night at a cost of 18 euros then walked around 10 minutes to the hotel, Michael who greeted us was so nice he helped us by showing places to eat and of interest on a map, nothing was too much trouble for him very accommodating.

Nothing everything was fabulous

The b&b was beyond any expectations! The furnishings were beautiful and the room was a wow! It was amazing and the pictures on the website are a true representation of the rooms. They were very clean, comfortable and luxurious. John was lovely and very welcoming. He made sure we knew he was always available for us. John mapped out places to eat and visit on a useful map. We tried to fit it all in! The breakfast was freshly cooked and faultless. If we went back to Brugge I’d definitely stay there again. Thank you John for an amazing stay in your home and b&b!!

There was absolutely nothing to not like. It was absolutely perfect! The best place I’ve ever stayed in.

The place is beautiful, the location is central, and the staff are incredibly kind, generous, and caring. Me and my partner adored our stay and couldn't be happier with everything. The art on the walls, the beautiful fireplaces, the light and spacious bathrooms, the very scrummy breakfasts, and the ease of coming and going with the key code system. Wouldn't have changed a single thing about the place or our stay. Loved it all.

Honestly, I can't think of a single thing to write in this box. The lovely owners of the b&b don't deserve anything to be written in this box. They take great pride in their work and it shows very clearly.
