The property both inside and outside was beautiful, very scenic. The breakfast was tasty, lots of coffee, and the waiter was excellent. It had a nice patio to sit out on, and the TV room was great to enjoy entertainment. There were plenty of nick-nacks, memorabilia, and antiques to look at inside the dining room, living room, sitting room, and hallways. It some goods books to look through or read as well.
The twin bed was too small for 2 people and it was very high from the floor. We needed a step stool to get into bed. It was warm in the room and the air conditioning was too loud if we left it running all night. There was no tea or coffee in room. Hot water wasn't very warm in the evening when dishwasher was running, but it was fine in the morning for showers.

Our granddaughter and her family moved here a month ago. We were visiting them from Winnipeg. The Inn is a beautiful combination of old world charm, vintage and historic decor with today's modern conveniences. We didn't have any meals there but we heard that the food is exceptional. The staff, from Barry at the front desk to Oxanna in housekeeping to the guys and Gail in the garden/maintenance/housekeeping and anything else they need her for, were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. We stayed in the Carriage house on the main floor. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We toured the main house, which was lavish and amazing. Every room was unique and comfortable. Barry told us his wife did all the decorating in the rooms. Every room showcased her attention to detail without being cluttered. The location in town was perfect. The grounds/gardens were beautiful. The kitchen uses fresh herbs and vegetables in season from the garden. Gail was showing me some of the new herbs she found and was planting that the chef is excited to try, like Olive herb, or spicy oregano. The train was close behind the Inn but they aren't frequent, don't blow a horn and not through the night.
I would recommend calling or emailing the Inn when booking since what is book isn't always what is reserved. Barry was apologetic that we got 2 single beds. Bookings described the room as 2 double beds, a sitting area (which was a single rocking chair) with a fireplace. No fireplace, which we certainly didn't need but exemplifies the discrepancy in what is offered on the booking sights and what is available at the Inn. The window coverings, including a sky light are large blinds, which allows a lot of light in the morning. We're used to black out curtains. This is just a fact, not really a complaint.

Although the decor is dated, it was all lovely. I felt a bit like I was on the set for a period movie, and I truly mean that as a compliment. The dinner I had, seafood platter and cheese cake, was excellent with lots of veg cooked perfectly. My room with ensuite was ideal.
My room had a rocking chair and a hard-backed chair. It would have been perfect if there was a more comfortable chair to sit in, but that’s a minor complaint as the sumptuous lounge is also available.

The hotel is a lovely 19th century home with mostly period decor and furnishing. The owner and his staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, as was the dinner in the beautiful dining room. Booking and pre-ordering dinner is requested of guests. Sackville is an interesting small town with a university. There are lovely trails around the extensive waterfowl reserve in easy walking distance from the hotel. I walked from the Via Rail station in less than 10 minutes. An excellent pause on my way from Halifax to Charlottetown.
I chose the one single room which had lots of character but was very small and up two flights of stairs. The private bathroom was across the landing. I would choose one of the beautiful larger rooms with an en suite next time.

A charming inn. The location was good for walking into town. ( Duckys pub....great craft beer selection) The property was safe and secure. We had already stopped in roadside motels on our trip back from Ontario and did not get value for money, or feel that our trailer full of belongs would still be there when we woke up in the morning... So that was a great feeling for us. We had a lovely wander round the inn the next morning. The dining room and sitting rooms were very impressive with how the history of this beautiful inn has been preserved. We stayed in the carriage house at the back of the property overlooking gardens. The big stuffed toy dog was a cute touch.....makes you smile. So if you want a break from boring "run of the mill motels" on your road trip and want to relax in a small town for the night....this is a lovely spot.
Can't think of anything I didn't like. It was a great stay.

What a great historic building and matched with period furniture and antiques. Ambience was great and good space available in addition to the room.
A bit quirky - requirements to pre-order food for dinner and breakfast and then not being able to get what you ordered. Needs to have tea and coffee facilities either in room of in a sitting area so reliant on staff to boil the kettle and bring to you.

Every room is unique and the Inn and property are lovely to walk through and experience.
Breakfast was very good but it was slow. We were not in any hurry but if folks were eager to get on the road this is not the spot to go for breakfast. This is a place to enjoy a leisurely coffee or tea while you sit and chat and await your breakfast, then take a stroll through the parlour or gardens.

Marshlands Inn is a charming place & I enjoyed the period atmosphere & furnishings. I met a friendly couple in the living room which made my evening fun. I felt well taken care of & safe & I liked being able to have breakfast there too.It
It is preferable to have the bathroom attached to the bedroom but mine was right across the hall and it worked fine.

Loved the location. So convenient for sappyfest and all other things we wanted to do in town. Absolutely loved the garden and being able to spend some down time out there reading and relaxing.
We had no idea if the restaurant was open or not and we’re not given any information about it when we checked in. Because we were staying in the carriage house we never went by either. That info (and breakfast included) would have been nice !

The Inn is beautiful and provides a rare and unique experience. Every room in this majestic mansion tells a fascinating story about its rich history, and the surrounding gardens are stunning! Our host was courteous and welcoming. It is located a few minutes' walk from the town's center.
Despite the fact that the beautiful Inn is a historic landmark, it needs a bit of maintenance improvements, as well as some interior upgrades. The room and corridor were decorated with artifacts such as the stuffed dolls and animals (we do appreciate the meaning of the nostalgic and historic items, but think that they are clogging the spaces and overall unnecessary). The same applies to some decorative yet not so practical furniture items in the room. The floor and bedside lamps in our room still use fluorescent light-bulbs (instead of energy efficient LED's) and some lights did not work at all. The bathroom door could not be closed entirely due to the old hardwood floor deformation.
