The staff at Cabanas la Pradera were incredible. Melissa, at the front desk was so friendly and warm and helped us plan our days out with advice on where to hike, what to see ,where to eat, etc. She also was so kind in showing us a sloth on the property, knowing our boys (and let's be real, me and my husband too!) would be super excited. She walked us down the trails totally out of her way to show us the sloth. It was a highlight of the trip! The property is really nice an there are paths that go all over. We would take a morning stroll everyday to look for animals and spotted agoutis and of course, the sloths. It was really fun. My kids also loved the labyrinth and the pool. Great place for kids to have some freedom to move around and explore.

The rooms were a bit dark and dated. They were still nice and in good shape though.

A little further from the main road than expected. Quite bumpy road to get there, but manageable with a 4x4. Would recommend one year round, not just during the rainy season.

We loved the little cabana, it was private, spacious, bright & very comfortable. The patio was perfect to sit & watch the birds. The little trail around the property was so nice just for a walk. The family that runs it are so nice & accommodating. It is a nice country retreat yet close enough to town to walk to if you don’t mind walking up hills. The pool is a nicer touch as well.

The only thing if you don’t have a car is having to walk up a big hill to get to town. We didn’t mind as we like to walk although there is always taxis available.

The location is just beautiful. Mellisa and her staff take pride in tending the large property and there is a trail created through it which is delightful. Lots of trees, birds and plants. Peaceful and private. Very clean. Very easy check in, and we loved Melissa from the start. She was helpful and friendly - and baby Aurora was adorable! The small pool is very clean, cool and refreshing! It was easy to reach all of the guided tours we had booked. Melissa recommended good restaurants and an extra tour which she booked for us. We felt at home!

The kitchen is tiny and there are not many updated utensils for cooking. We still cooked there, and we managed fine. We are old, and so the benches on the front porch were not comfortable for us. These things are minor compared to how much we loved Cabanas la Predera!

We loved the feel of this place and the friendliness of the staff. The cottage was well equipped for self catering and spacious, and the grounds, especially the maze, were attractive and a delight. We enjoyed the pool and loungers too. Although the centre of town was a walkable distance (maybe a mile), it was quite a stiff, mostly uphill walk, and the reception staff were helpful in calling for taxis to get us into the town and recommending places to go, for example to see the impressive sunsets. Supermarket opposite the entrance if needed, and a cafe by the maze in the grounds.

We absolutely loved our stay at La Pradera. It's a gorgeous place run by a lovely family, who were all incredibly welcoming and helpful. They booked taxis for us, recommended some fantastic restaurants and helped us to arrange tours and a shuttle for our onward travel. Our kids loved doing the trail around the property, accompanied by the family's very friendly dogs! The maze is brilliant as well, and there's a playground nearby, and a mini market opposite which had everything we needed. There's so much wildlife - we saw agouti outside our window, lizards and so many birds. Monteverde is cooler than other places in Costa Rica, so the pool was a little cold, but my daughter still enjoyed having a dip. We would definitely return to this very special place.

The bungalow is on a private nature reserve with pathways to explore and view the plants and birds. Lovely view from our patio . Tony helped me evaluate the Spanish language junk messages on my phone and helped us get laundry service. I liked that we had a broom and pan in order to keep our floor tidy. The refrigerator worked as did the hotplate and coffee maker. It was also very nice to have a separate bedroom rather than one big room.

The kitchen area could use a few more hooks or towel bars to hang up towels and the kitchen supplies were limited. We were able to make it all work though.

The property was set off a small main road which was quiet. Had its own grounds to walk around and we even had a sloth behind our bungalow. We arrived earlier than anticipated and Melissa who checked us in was amazing showing us the sloth and helping us with transportation as we where only there for two nights and organised a taxi for us to get to Monte Verde national park the next morning very early. The pool was clam and relaxing. ( only got to dip my feet in as it was a cool day though) the bungalow itself was lovely.. the bathroom was amazing massive walk in shower. Little open planned dining room/ kitchen with a living room also with table, chairs and two small sofas. It’s not completely in the centre. Say a 15 min walk up some steep hills but that means it’s all downhill on the way back after a long day! we prefer staying a little out anyhow.

Nothing at all really. The only thing my partner commented on was the towels were a bit scratchy.

This place is exceptional. Beautiful grounds, convenient location in Santa Elena, clean spacious cabins. We LOVED it here. We are a family of six- two adults and four kids ages 6-14. No one wanted to leave. It felt magical. Breakfast is a small fee and made fresh. Beds were comfortable. I really could not ask for more.

Wifi was very spotty - not sure if that can be helped. Front desk man was friendly and helpful but pushed for us to pay for accommodations with cash and was irritated when we could not. Just a heads up they prefer cash. Also the wind in this area at night can be CRAZY loud- it kept me awake but ear plugs solved that problem. Totally worth it though this place is truly a gem.

We loved the extensive trails on the property. We walked through them all multiple times during our stay, enjoying the plants and the wildlife. We weren’t expecting this and it was such a joy. We loved the pool and watching birds and other animals from our room. Our entire stay was very peaceful and we wish we could have stayed longer.

The Wi-Fi and breakfast weren’t great.
