Selinas are always beautifully decorated to resemble the local area, this is why I love staying in them! They’re sociable, friendly from staff to other guests, clean tidy and reliable .

Nice building and furniture, very clean the private room and bathroom, nothing really bad happened during my stay

Its not a hostel atmosphere for sure, it has just one restaurant that is super ultra expensive (even more than costa rican price). The staff just dont care you are there, there is never someone at the reception to help you with anything. A advice is to not booking tours with them, more expensive than to find in get your guide or viator. Just an abandoned selina (is not of them anymore so the service is really poor)

Really nice hostel, plenty of storage in dorm room. Clean. Felt safe and could walk to main museums/market etc easily. Adding breakfast to booking was good value.

No complaints about the hostel definitely one of the nicer ones I’ve stayed in while traveling. The airport transfer they organised was a bit random just a guy in own car, no sign/not with a company, had to go to departures to find them and hard to establish that it was who the hostel had arranged. I had booked transport as was arriving San Jose airport late at night and wanted to make sure had safe trip to town. Driver was friendly/nice once found them but a taxi/uber probably would have been just as easy.

Superb hostel with a superb activities/programming director and host Valen!! Superb staff from reception, yoga instructor, masseuse Oscar (massage by Oscar a must!), restaurant staff, to the facilities maintenance staff! The food, atmosphere, activities, comfy beds, and plush linen are super phenomenal! Large community kitchen, safe and convenient location about 10-minute Uber ride to/from the airport and central market. Walkable to nearby museums and other shops!! What stood out for me was that I am a middle-aged traveler and activities were all-inclusive for myself and other seasoned travelers! RESERVE NOW!!!

Clean, secure and with privacy. Free 10 minutes massage. Friendly staff. The separate coworking space is ideal if you have work to do.

I don't think the design is very conductive to make new friends, the restaurant being in the centre and the lounge area pushed on the side. The restaurant is not good value for money - the caesar salad was the bare minimum and it's pricey for a hostel. Loud reggaeton music in the restaurant. Some dorms have aircon but not window; other have windows but only fan...

We really enjoyed our stay at Selina! We had been looking to stay at a Selina Hostel since we arrived in South America as they seem to be everywhere & always look great, but they were either too expensive or they had no availability. Our luck came in when we got to San Jose Costa Rica - a small private room within our budget. The room was described as being the size of a train compartment and it was spot on however it was perfect for our two nights, comfiest bed ever! We had two bathrooms close by that no one else seemed to be using, so that was a bonus. Loved that we got towels, toiletries included in the bathrooms and the general decor throughout the hostel was very cool. A well equipped kitchen with lots of space. The atmosphere was friendly and buzzing. The location was brilliant, walkable to everywhere and with some good bars/cafes on the doorstep. Selina Hostels seem to have mastered what travellers want and need. They have more of a hotel feel than a hostel feel. (Although sometimes the prices are more reflective of a hotel which is a shame!) We will definitely aim to stay at another Selina during our travels if possible. I would love it if the hostel chain made it across to Europe!!!

The price in the cafe was a little steep. We know Costa Rica is generally more expensive but it was still a shame that the hostel cafe didn’t have cheaper options.

Right on the beach, easy to meet other backpackers, kitchen to use, amazing sunsets. great cinema room. This is definitely one of the better selinas. The bathrooms are basic but at least clean. I did 1 night in the little cylinder rooms which was a cool experience. But its shared bathrooms. Not sure why people hate on Jaco so much. If you need a close beach destination to San Jose its fine (bus took 3-3.5hrs - San jose is a traffic nightmare), walkable, I felt safe as a solo female since its quite a busy main road with many tourists. The beach has lots of waves so good for surf. I went during the week and there were 2-3 bars to go to at night on the main strip, nothing crazy but fun chill vibe with djs.

You can get by with the kitchen but expect 0 decent knives to be able to cut anything hard. Low supply of bowls and things. Not really any activities at night during my stay, it seems the main thing here is getting surf lessons.

Selina SJ is a great hub for exploring the city. Selina is situated in a quiet area, 10-15 minute walk from downtown, Barrio Escalante around the corner. Staff and visitors are great company. Selina offers free yoga, entertainment but also some quiet spots like the upstairs terrace. The kitchen is well equipped. Overall the dorms and facilities are clean. If you're just in CR from an exhausting flight, then Selina offers you the right place to feel welcome and get grounded!

The food at Selina is fresh but quite expensive ( a medium sized bowl of yoghurt with fresh fruit and granola for 11 dollars).

The hostel is clean and trendy. I ended up staying in a 6 BR dorm but there were only one other person. The dorm was clean and on the second floor, which means lugging your stuff, but you can ask the staff for help. The bathroom for the 6 people dorm was very small and did not had hot water in the sink, so I mostly used the bathroom by the Salon in the morning. You take your own towel. The kitchen has few utensils. The restaurant staff gave me a bit of milk to make the tea. There is a small library and also another gathering place on the third floor (which was basically empty as it was cold when I was there). The co-working place is across the street and internet works great there. The location of the hostel is great. They have a storage area to hold your luggage. Overall, a bit pricey but nice place to stay.

All bathroom sinks should have hot water. Like some other places in Costa Rica, you can not throw toilet paper in the toilet.

The hostel was really friendly with a great self contained set up. The food and drink available was great and very reasonable prices too. We got free welcome cocktails and a free 10min massage - I would have definitely paid for another massage if staying longer. The dorms were nice with curtains for privacy.

We booked a 4dorm room but was allocated a 6 on arrival. It was late at night so was just desperate to go to bed, however had intentionally booked a smaller dorm due to late arrival, early exit after 2 nights. No explanation or apology for giving us a different room type - not a deal breaker although it had been booked weeks in advance and they didn't know the gender of the second person and we was allocated to a female dorm despite booking mixed so it could have been a bigger issue for us and others.
