The Sportsman Lodge is a well-maintained and secure establishment, offering a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The rooms are exceptionally clean, and the staff is attentive to guests' requests. We requested accommodations away from the bar, and they were happy to accommodate us. The food was excellent, and the overall experience was highly satisfying. Evenings were particularly enjoyable, with lively game viewings adding to the atmosphere. I highly recommend this lodge for a pleasant stay—just be sure to request a room away from the bar for a quieter experience.

Leaving

SL is in a great location. Walk to the parks, museums, the Mercado or simply wonder the vibrant city of San José. When back at home base, the staff is always attending whether it's laundry, a simple towel, car rental, excursions, etc. The beds are solid and showers all have great water pressure! The bar is easy going, and if you've got a room it's simple charging. Hazel & Kristen keep the drinks flowing, it is high energy and the girls are all very attractive and friendly behind the bar and also the kitchen is open till 10pm. In addition, I'll say the steak quality here is better than other options within walking distance- it's better quality beef. You'll enjoy your stay here, pura vida!

Sportsman's Lodge has cleanliness, hotel & food service and security to American standards!

In 18+ years of hotel operation there are minor signs of deferred maintenance that are irritating. For example faulty electrical outlets, noisy bathroom fans, leaking toilets and non op room telephones☎️.

It was a short overnight stay before leaving for La Fortuna. Interbus picked us up right outside the door. Hotel staff so helpful with our very late arrival and early pickup. Driver from hotel picked us up from airport for $30.

There was noise from the bar below our room but it wasn’t a problem for us.

Good, but I only had coffee most mornings. Front desk staff was awesome. The kitchen staff prepared fish I caught at Jaco. My bartenders were a pleasure to work with and very timely with service.

My jacuzzi did not hold water well. Toro Negro was the room.

Staff was responsive and friendly. They quickly changed rooms when the AC unit failed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was clean. The food was good. The room I had was quiet at night.

Not a big deal, but I get up early and the breakfast wasn't yet available at O'dark thirty

SL has one of the best locations in San Jose. You can walk to multiple museums, experience the best dining or nightlife in SJ, and when you're back at the lodge, the scenery is always easy on the eyes. There's even a local players club card or something available for H U G E discounts if you're a returning guest.

There's no physical or financial dislike at the Lodge, HOWEVER, the breakfast crew might wake you up at 7ish w their routine....

sportmens has nice atmosphere the bar the food tastes good. facilities are secure and its theme is nice. plenty of screens to see plenty of visitors in bar areas. front desk staff-- all extremely helpful george, gwendolyn , and another gal i forgot her name she has glasses little taller , door guys --marcos, daniel, and the taller guy all helpful with information as well .bar area personnel -- dayanna carla julry malfredo all pleasant and efficient. i Recommend this place i will stay again when i come back. proximity to other places to go ins bank near , park downtown very easy to navigate . The area felt safe for me to walk after dark hours

didnt like that i didnt plan as well for when i went to jaco so was unable to cancel room for 2 nights while i stayed in jaco then returned. but that on me not the sportsmens

Everyone of the staff members were exceptionally helpful and the food was delicious. The facility isn't new,... but it is well maintained, clean and very comfortable. Relaxed atmosphere and I will stay there again.

Drinks are a little expensive, but you must remember where you are and why you are there.

Great selection of cigars, just needs to be a sign in the room where they sell cigars, that there is no smoking allowed, so when you buy a cigar, the customer will know not to smoke in that room. Smoke outside!, this is my goto place to stay, you meet friendly people.
