The room was good, comfortable bed and nice bath/shower. Bar staff were lovely.

It is a shame that you have to pay extra to be able to use the pool - that is the main attraction to booking a spa hotel. Parking is expensive.

Staff friendly and amazing, facilities excellent. I was impressed on arrival and check-in with the warm welcome and assistance offered. Our room was comfortable with even a coffee table and two arm chairs, a fridge, a huge TV with easy adapted subtitles as my husband is deaf, beautiful comfortable twin beds, tea and coffee facilities with biscuits, and I must mention the excellent bathroom facilities with the powerful double shower. The room was also equipped with hairdryer, iron and ironing board and a plug in oil radiator which we were really appreciative of on chilly nights. We loved the gym facilities and the pool, jacuzzi and sauna well worth the fee. Food was excellent with a bar lunch menu available until 6 pm. We will definitely stay again. We liked everything

We had such a memorable and heartwarming stay at the Mercure Exeter as a couple celebrating our anniversary. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make our visit feel special. We were delighted to find that our room had been upgraded—a beautifully decorated, spacious space with a super comfortable bed and lovely location for this city break. Waiting for us was a selection of complimentary gifts, including a truly heartfelt handwritten card and free drink vouchers, which was such a thoughtful gesture and really set the tone for the occasion. Although we didn’t have breakfast during our stay, we made full use of the bar and restaurant in the evening and were so impressed. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, the cocktails were delicious (and terribly moreish), and the food was full of flavour and beautifully presented. The service throughout was attentive without being intrusive and we were always met with a smile. The location was also perfect—right in the heart of Exeter, within walking distance of the cathedral, the quayside and plenty of independent shops and cafes. We couldn’t have asked for a more thoughtful and comfortable stay. We’re already talking about returning later this month!

The floorboards were quite creaky, which was noticeable during the night. There was also a disturbance at around 1am due to a key issue with the room next door, which required staff to intervene. Around the same time, a child could be heard screaming in the corridor, which was unsettling—but to the hotel’s credit, it was resolved fairly quickly and calmly. Despite these hiccups, the overall experience was overwhelmingly positive, and the thoughtful touches for our anniversary more than made up for any inconveniences. We left feeling truly valued and would happily return in the future.

All the staff were very pleasant and polite. We had a breakfast every morning and 2 evening meals. All were good quality and value for money. The bar area was nice and comfortable. My partner enjoyed the pool and spar.

We were missing a fridge in our 1st room which was inconvenient as we had items with us that needed to be chilled. In our 2nd room there was a large sofa bed half open that we were unable to close. It was a nuisance because it took up most of the room. The outside bar veranda was nice but a little tired, it needed a good sweep up and some flowers.

Lovely hotel with an excellent location & parking. Rooms are great & very comfortable, clean & have everything you need for a relaxing stay, mini fridge, iron, safe & large tv. Staff are friendly and helpful, & very attentive. Facilities are very good, and we enjoy staying here as the overall presentation of the hotel is excellent.

The air conditioning was not working, and the weather was very warm, so it was not great at night for a restful sleep. However, these things happen, but fans had been placed in the rooms, which was very much appreciated. Information in the room states pizza & sandwiches available from 9pm. Unfortunately, we went to order sandwiches at 9.15pm and were told by reception that the kitchen is closed between 9pm - 10.30pm.

Location is good, we stayed to attend a team building event (Murder 57 - myrder mystery dinner) 11/10/24. Second time we've done this now. Check in quick and efficient, barstaff courteous and attentive.

The breakfast was awful, poor quality produce, limited choice, deep fried sausages, and bacon that was greasy with no taste. Not a mushroom in sight, and if you wanted egg, it's scrambled or scrambled. Paid for and stayed in a Privilege Room, no difference to a standard double a colleague had, other than the upgraded room, had a Mexican wave in the carpet which was about to rip. Last year health club facilities included in cost, this year additional charges implemented.

Excellent customer service. Lucy at reception was an absolute star! Promote this young woman immediately!! My husband is in poor health, and from reaching reception, Lucy could not have been more helpful. She assisted me with our luggage and made excellent suggestions to make our stay more manageable and enjoyable. In addition to this, the hotel is in an excellent location, and we enjoyed a very good breakfast and comfortable, contemporary rooms that are clean and well-maintained. Overall, no hesitation when booking again.

Lovely location in very nice part of town, short stroll to cathedral, shops and city centre. Biggest tv I've ever seen in a hotel bedroom! Small leak from toilet fixed immediately after reported. Clean, comfortable and lovely bed. ROom only so can't comment on breakfast.

Having stayed at a Mercure or two in the past, we've always enjoyed the pool. Found out during booking that here there was an extra £10 charge to use it. Never had to do that before, and was almost a deal breaker. We were in two minds whether to use it during our stay but on arrival there was a sign saying that the jacuzzi was broken, so that decided it.

Efficient friendly with pool

My room had an awful smell at the beginning which never completely went. There was a bad stain on the carpet which may have caused it. The shower had some mold which could easily have been cleaned up. The only chair had a cover missing from one of the seat buttons which meant the metal tore my trousers and scratched my leg. For a four day stay I decided to put up with it and write the report here. Otherwise the staff were lovely and I would actually book again though would check the room first!
