Excellent location, friendly staff, character building.

Room needs updating/refreshing, didn’t spoil our stay. Booked as I have done a hundred times through Booking.Com. This time for some reason we had extreme difficulty with payment, ended up paying £6K instead of £1.5 for a week stay, and it took a lot of stress to sort out. The staff were very apologetic and did their best to sort it but it took a long time to fix. Our daughter who stayed in the next room had the same experience, so not sure why this happened. We did get some compensation.

I used to walk by the "North by Northwest" hotel when I lived in Chicago's Near North. On sabbatical abroad for the academic year, I was passing through the city on my way to visit family over the holidays and found a great deal on Booking.com. Mine was a corner room, with a nice city view and tons of space. It was clean and comfortable, and the wifi worked great. The hotel was decked out elegantly in white for the holiday. Staff could not have been nicer. I was running around getting stuff for Christmas and never went to the fancy bar, but it doesn't seem to have completely lost its cachet. If you know Chicago, you know that this location is ideal: right near the lake, the Division and Rush Street entertainment areas, the Red Line L (Clark/Division), key bus lines (22, 70, 151), grocery stores, cafes, drugstores, etc.

If I had been paying a lot, maybe there would be a couple of minor quibbles. None springs to mind, however. My expectations were not elevated, in light of some of the comments found online. My room did not feel dated, at all, however. And anyone with any ounce of romance in their soul has to be affected by the history of the place and the beauty of the surrounding neighborhood.

The front desk staff were really helpful and professional, but we had a different experience in the restaurant. Our breakfast the first morning wasn't great and the service was horrible. People were getting their own coffee and the server couldn't have cared less. When we entered the restaurant the second morning the person working was rude and told us that there was no chef so we couldn't have breakfast. We had to check out early that morning so we left without eating. This was frustrating because our reservation included breakfast.

The location is amazing, the room was quite and spacious (deluxe king bed) (AC could be a little less noisy but didn't keep us awake). The staff is kind and attentive. The common areas are beautifully curated. We didn't get a room with a great view but we will definitely ask for one next time. The view should be amazing. We love the neighborhood, great restaurants at walk distance, 1 block from the lake shore but super quite. We will go back.

Ac was a bit loud, no view (specific to our room), elevators' floor need a bit of love. We didn't have breakfast or used the bar, but they seemed very nice.

Immensely grateful for the exceptional experience at the JdV by Hyatt Ambassador, Chicago. The staff, the views, and the overall ambience felt like a beautiful home away from home. Special shoutout to Felix, who made my arrival at the hotel so heartwarmingly comfortable. The remarkable hospitality from the manager has left me eagerly anticipating my next stay when I'm back in the Windy City. Travel brings unexpected adventures, but feeling welcome and secure should always be a constant - thanks for making that possible, JdV by Hyatt Ambassador Chicago!

Needed a particular type of room that wasn't available, but the hotel accommodated me and went above and beyond to help meet my needs.

Having a dedicated desk in the room was nice. The lighting was unique and very well done. Was impressed with the sort of walk-in closet/bathroom.

Walls were sort of thin, I could hear a lot of the rooms around me but it wasnt a problem. The light switches were awkwardly far away from the door so coming back late it was dark

We had a very nice large room. The bed was super comfortable and the shower was amazing. The location of the hotel was perfect. We love the Gold Coast Area.

We wish the rooftop would have been open. We also would have liked a coffee maker in our room. The coffe in the lobby was good but it is nice when you first wake up to be able to make a cup.

The Ambassador’s location is amazingly convenient, 5 minute walk to dozens of restaurants, bars, bakeries, parks, Old Town and of course the lake. Very convenient valet parking. Extremely comfortable bed and friendly food and beverage services.

The room needed a more comfortable chair to sit and read or enjoy a coffee in, but then again….who stays for too little no in their room in Chicago?!

Loved that I got a corner room. Sometimes I feel claustrophobic in hotel rooms. Also liked that I could control the room temperature. Room was very quiet. I slept like I was at home.

There seemed to be a shortage of hot water for morning shower, even though I was up early (before the rush). Water pressure in bathroom sink also a bit weak.

Lobby is beautiful. Room was awesome. Great sitting area. Comfortable bed. Quiet room. Black out curtains were an excellent amenity as the windows are wonderful but they would let in a lot of light, disturbing sleep. Oat milk for coffee was much appreciated. Wish more hotels would offer.
