Has 2 public baths, 3 private baths, and my room had a bath on the balcony. Included breakfast, which was good. Public baths were amazing and provided free refreshments. Enjoy free ramen hour and dumpling/dango hour. Love the clothing and accessories provided. Pickup and drop off available at train station.

It is somewhat in an inconvenient location - make sure you confirm directions or pickup before heading there. Be prepared for musty smell due to humidity of the baths. Make sure you book your stay with dinner or bring your own food; otherwise you won’t be able to eat until breakfast unless you buy snacks from the gift shop or you attend ramen hour or dumpling/dango hour.

The property was absolutely beautiful from the outside. I couldn't find this info directly on their listing, but they did send a message after booking that they offer a free shuttle from Kowakidani station to their property which was extremely convenient. When I went, the shuttle ran from 2-5 PM and comes back to the station about every 10 minutes. They have a nice little souvenir shop in the lobby and plenty of seating. My mother and I stayed in a room with a private hot open-air bath. In addition to the public onsen, they also offer 4 different private hot springs which are available on a first come first serve basis. Milk and yakult are free and available at different times of day. Our room was very spacious and clean, and in typical Japanese fashion came with all the bathroom amenities you could need as well as a tea set, tea snacks, and items to make your own pourover coffee. Some areas of the room did seem a little dated/older, but clearly everything has been kept very clean. The beds were extremely warm and comfortable with the slightly chilly mountain air. The private bath was a wooden style tub located on the deck, and we were provided a cedar block and a whole yuzu to put into the water. The view was gorgeous from the bath! For dinner you can choose between bbq or hotpot style, and one of two set mealtimes. Dinner was a fairly traditional Japanese kaiseki style dinner. It was one of the most gorgeous and meticulously prepared meals we've had, but taste-wise was fairly average. One thing is for sure though, they feed you a staggering amount of food. We both loved the traditional Japanese style breakfast though! They apparently offer free ramen at the restaurant in the evening after a certain time, but even with choosing the earliest mealtime we were too stuffed to even consider ramen.

They provide comfortable jinbei pajamas to wear, but yukata cost an additional fee to rent. It is not as convenient to get around by bus in the area as it is in larger cities so if you plan to take any trips to tourist spots you may need to wait a little longer for a bus and they are also very crowded with tourists. Food was gorgeous, but the dinner will probably not be the tastiest thing you eat in Japan.

The hotel exceeded our expectations. The room was in Japanese style but with a Western twist - it was spacious :-) and it had "open-air bath" on a balcony, which was fantastic!. The property is beautifully situated in the middle of forest but be aware to choose a room facing green, otherwise you will look at the parking lot. Both indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths are great. The hotel is frequented by Japanese tourists, so it is quite authentic. The real treat was a Japanese breakfast (in kimonos) -an ultimate Japanese experience.

The hotel does not have a la carte restaurant and serves only two sets of (quite expensive) menu. We did not book the table when booking the hotel. When we arrived we were told that the restaurant was fully booked. The nearest restaurants are in Gora (about 30min walk), fortunately nearby Seven/Eleven (open 24/7) saved us :-).

The hotel is very beautiful, and the location is great for those looking to relax. The general cleanliness and quality of the hotel was very good as well. The room itself was spacious for a couple, and the hinoki (Japanese cypress) open-Air bath was fantastic. The Japanese breakfast was very nice, and the atmosphere in the lobby, where free drinks and Japanese snacks were served at designated times, was very peaceful. When we visited, they had a series of games available for people to play (at a cost). The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and the shuttle bus was very helpful.

Not much to say, other than the room(s?) could do with some renovation work, as there was black mold in the shower room, and slight damage in a few places. The room has a few high-up areas that need dusting as well.

Spa facilities, the traditional Japanese meals, the hot springs, The traditonal Japanese rooms

I chose this resort from an American booking site and the hotel seems ill equipped for Americans. We had trouble communicating to the staff, most of who spoke not one word to English. I realize I am partly the fault, as I know no Japanese. But this made it particularly difficult when we had to make our way back to the train station. Taxi service is non-existent at the hotel, so we took a bus, which could have gone awry if we had guessed the wrong stop and bus number. On the plus side, we were treated to a completely Japanese experience, as virtually all the guests and staff were Japanese. And perhaps this will change if more American exposure Wonderful!results in more American's at the resort.

Amazing stay. The hotel has private onsens and included traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner in the price. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel is a short walk from the train station and from the bus stop, where you can easily travel to the tourist spots. We weren’t sure straight away on the clothing expectations, but quickly realised we should wear the Yukata provided when in the hotel, including meal times. The private bath on the balcony is amazing.

Staff was amazing. Resort was beautiful. Food tasted great! Private Onsens were very relaxing.

The deck, showers, and in-suite onsen tub were very moldy. Room had a lot of trash and beer cans from previous person under the sink. Walls had chocolate or blood stains that look like they could have been cleaned easily and should have been noticed by house keeping. We had a small issue with vent being so dusty it caused the entire suite to have an industrial noise. We informed the staff of how loud the vent was and they cleaned it for us immediately which fixed the issue completely. We are still very satisfied. We understand we checked in on busy Saturday so it's hard for housekeeping to clean everything.

An excellent Japanese onsen resort providing a traditional ryokan experience consisting of both public onsens and private onsens within their gardens. The Japanese Western Room was impeccably clean and comfortable and featured an open - air bath on the balcony and Japanese style dining area complete with tatami mats. Both the customer service and dining experience were excellent. The resort also provides complimentary shuttle services to and from the local station.

The resort was expensive, especially during the Sakura (cherry blossom) season. However the premium price is expected for the quality of service and peak season.

We were all really impressed, the Ryokan is gorgeous and we'll maintained. Our rooms had a gorgeous view of the mountains from our balconies. The private onsens in our rooms were amazing. This Ryokan provides many facilities with a variety of public and private onsens to choose from. The three private onsens that the hotel offered could be used without a reservation as long as they weren't in use. Our meals were the highlight of our stay, our dinner was one of the best meals we had in Japan. Our waiter Honda-san was extremely informative and friendly, he informed us of what each course consisted and provided his own recommendations. The Ryokan also offered a variety of complimentary snacks through out the facility, an icream after soaking in an onsen was just perfect. I would highly recommend staying at Mizunoto, everything was clean and the staff were incredibly welcoming.

There are 4 onsens (new and old building with each a men and women onsen that alternate daily) so a lot of variety if you stay longer. Many free items such as popsicles and milk near the onsen, coffee beans with a grinder in the room, free hot and cold drinks during the entire day and eveming snacks in the lobby. I oved the Japanese food, both the dinners (the traditional menu perhaps a bit more than the BBQ menu, also because of being served in the nicest looking restaurant of the 2) and the excessive breakfasts. One-hour unlimited drinks during dinner, I loved the sake. Free roomwear that everybody is wearing in the entire hotel including the restaurants, so no worries that your clothes will smell after breakfast. Very peaceful location with the sound of nearby waterfalls and I think crickets. The huge room (dated but convenient) had a huge window overlooking trees and hills. A room description I saw mentioned "no private bathroom" but that probably applied to not having a tub on the balcony as we had our own bathroom and separate toilet, which the hotel confirmed promptly after my earlier inquiry. Favorably located versus the major sights. Very kind staff that spoke English.

If any comment to make, I wished they were more generous with the tea during breakfast.
