Beautifully decorated Room size was good compared to other hotels in France. Very clean Bathroom was amazing: Great Shower and bathtub. Excellent water pressure. Very comfortable mattress-firm Clean and soft bed sheets Convenient parking space (you have to book in advance) Less than 10 min walking distance from the cathedral and centre of town. Perfect location. Very kind, polite and professional staff We will return for sure Great for couples, families and individuals travelling alone. We didn’t try the breakfast or restaurant. Not sure how good it is or if it’s overpriced. The bar area was very welcoming and we saw families and all type of people enjoying themselves. I would give this hotel 9 rating out of 10.

The deposit on the credit card was ridiculously high. I always pay the total price in advance anyway. We understand they don’t charge you. Still, very high compared to other hotels in our experience.

Pretty old hotel with characterful but comfortable rooms and a great location. Our car was taken away and parked by a valet which was a lovely start to our stay. The bed was comfortable and all the usual mod cons were provided including sockets on either side of the bed. We had a really delicious dinner in the Brasserie waited on by first rate, professional staff who knew what they were doing and gave us plenty of attention without fussing over us. Breakfast in the Brasserie was also good. The bar is lovely - cosy and again, the staff really know what they are doing. The reception staff were all very helpful and my husband enjoyed the spa - €20 to use the basic facilities. All in all we enjoyed our stay.

The electrics in the room require your card key to be placed in the slot by the door. Unfortunately the lights by the door and in the separate toilet switch on automatically by sensor with no switch to turn them off so you risk waking your partner if you get up in the night. Also, if you are in the loo for any length of time they can go out too. A previous guest had spilled food on the chaise longue/sofa which had not been cleaned, and there were one or two other little niggles in the room such as an incorrectly filled soap dispenser that were annoying for such an upscale hotel. Housekeeping needs to pay a little more attention.

The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Decor looked fresh and stylish. The linen was crisp and beautiful. Liked the view of the square from our window. Appreciated being able to make a cup of tea. Liked being able to open the window rather than having the air con on. The location for the cathedral was perfect, and for walking to the market. Arthur and Frederico were very helpful in parking and returning our car to outside the hotel. The reception staff were very pleasant.

Was not as impressed with the bathroom. The shape of the bath is very impractical as it was impossible to stretch out in the bath for a soak. It would also take a huge amount of water to fill it for a deep bath. The decor in the bathroom was also rather tired - the paint was chipped on the basin console and the mirrors that were stuck around the side of the bath, were also a bit damaged. Would have liked some bubble bath, but luckily I had packed some. I hope you find this feedback helpful.

Very good location with very handy public parking nearby. ‘Grand’ feel but maintained well and very comfortable. Bed comfortable and room a decent size. Everywhere clean. We always enjoy staying here and will be back.

(These are minor points!) Service in bar pleasant but very slow. Breakfast staff allowed a few things to run out without replenishment and used dishes were not cleared efficiently. (V good breakfast though!) The fish cake starter at the evening meal was pretty awful - greasy and tasteless. (The rest of the meal, and the service, were great!)

We ate on the outside terrace and in the hotel bar during our stay. The attentiveness of the waiting staff was poor - it took a while for them to take our orders - they were chatting to guests at other tables - to the extent that we wondered if we were being deliberately ignored because we were not French. My partner is only partially mobile - had he been in a position to walk to another restaurant we would have done on the second night of our stay.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant and bar very warm and inviting. The restaurant food great. The location was very convenient (2 minute walk) to the main attractions of the city. Private parking was a plus.

We booked a prestige king room, and our upstairs room was a cramped, awkwardly laid-out room with low beams criss-crossing below head-level. We had to beware as we moved around. Getting in and out of bed was gymnastic. Definitely not as pictured.

This is an elegant hotel with exceptionally well-trained staff throughout. The rooms are spacious and attractive with luxurious bedding and towels. The fitness room is small but complete. They even keep it cool, which many hotels do not. The hotel parking lot is about one block away but the staff will help you retrieve your car and load or unload your bags. The breakfast buffet is interesting and delicious, and the upscale restaurant, Le Georges, afforded us one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had.

La Grand Monarque is ideally situated in the middle of Chartres, only a 5 minute walk from its stunning Cathedral. It has two restaurants, one with a Michelin Star and a very good brasserie type restaurant, which offers very good value for well cooked food with fresh ingredients and a small but good wine list. Rooms are very comfortable and the staff exceptionally polite and efficient.

The garage is a short distance from the hotel, but this is a very minor quibble.

All of the staff are very professional , kind and welcoming. The rooms were a bit small but very comfortable for a short stay. My son and husband dined at Le Georges and found the experience amazing . My daughter and I dined in Le Cour and found the food also fantastic, just more to our taste for less exotic options. Our server was excellent at assisting my daughter in selecting items which were adjusted to be gluten free for her without making her feel uncomfortable about her allergy. The walk to view the cathedral with lighting at night was more spectacular than expected.

The lighting in the rooms was a bit dim, if I search for something to complain about.

A charming and elegant hotel in a prime location. We have stayed here many times and always enjoy the experience. Each room is individually decorated in a quintessentially French style and a pre-dinner drink in the Madrigal bar is always a delightful experience. Highly recommended.
