Hotel Esmeralda is a small, unique place in a building dating back to the 1600’s. It’s right around the corner from Shakespeare and Company bookstore and across the street from Notre Dame Cathedral. You can see and hear the Cathedral from your window. It’s surrounded by great restaurants and lovely Parisian cafe. It has a small unobtrusive entrance and if you don’t look up to see the little hotel sign you won’t know it’s there. The rooms are smallish but perfectly adequate with beautiful wallpaper and old furniture. It’s squeaky clean. There’s no elevator and the stairs are narrow and creaky. The staff is friendly and helpful especially Francisco, the owner. He speaks perfect English and has great information about restaurants, transportation, attractions etc. We stayed at this hotel 40 years ago and were never able to get a room until this trip. It was just as lovely as we remembered and the location is the best.

I like everything about the hotel.

This is only a 1* hotel in an excellent location. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and everything is clean if not a little worn. It is homely, caring, comfortable and historically interesting. There's a gorgeous music park at the end of its small street, just around the corner from the Shakespeare book shop and my room overlooks and it about 200 ms away from the Notre Dame. There's a beautiful park opposite and markets nearby.

The spiral staircase which is challenging with a suitcase but the staff insisted on helping with the luggage. There is a noisy fan when the bathroom light is on.

Amazing location, right in the heart of the city with our room looking out onto Notre Dame across the Seine. The hotel was full of character, quirky, certainly very old (I think the decor hadn't been changed in 50 years!) and such warm and welcoming hosts who loved to chat and were full of useful advice about Paris and lots of interesting anecdotes about the hotel's past. Despite being old, the room was clean, the bathroom was spacious and had plenty of hot flowing water. The staff were so accommodating - we were able to check in early without giving them notice and could leave our bags there after check-out as we had a late train back to London.

Not good for people with mobility issues as lots of stairs and narrow doorways. But that is part of the character of the place!

Perfectly situated in quiet corner of Latin quarter, just opposite Notre Dame. A quirky, historical old hotel of great character. Friendly staff on reception, and helped with carrying my luggage up to the 3rd floor. Good value for central Paris. I'd have loved a room with a view of Notre Dame, but in fact my allocated single room, with windows onto the back, meant it was very quiet, which was welcome. I'll be happy to return and recommend to others.

Bed was very squeaky! People with reduced mobility should take note of the old wooden steep and narrow staircase, and may struggle. However it is actually part of the interesting character of the place, and was not an issue for me.

The location couldn't possibly be better. It really is at the heart of Paris, our room had a view of Notre Dame *and* the Panthéon! The building itself is also quite an experience. The staircase and the room really have an *old hotel* vibe and it feels good to be in such a place. The monsieur at the reception (Francisco?) was also exceptionally nice and kind. He helped us a lot during check out and even offered my mom some coffee while she waited. Thank you for a really nice stay on our first night in Paris!

The staircase is incredibly beautiful but will be a challenge if you struggle at all with mobility, really narrow and steep. The room was comfortable but could really be cleaner :( part of it is because the furniture, carpets etc are old *but* there is definitely room for improvement, especially in the bathroom.

Fantastyczna atmosfera, przepiękne wnętrze budynku z 1640 roku, w sercu Paryża, cudowny Gospodarz Pan Francisco, bajeczny widok na Notre-Dame. Wonderful place in the heart of Paris with a magnificent view on Notre-Dame. A building from 1640, clean, well looked after, still needs a lot of work to be done however an amazing host - Fransisco is looking after guests with charm and attention. If you look for an atmospheric place where you can enjoy breathtaking views, feeling like in an old story, it is the best 😊🙃 Thank you very much Dear Host! I loved every second! 🌺

Location is insane! Maybe a 3 minute walk to Mass at Notre Dame, same building as Shakespeare et Co., great for trains and metro. The original features of staircase, doors, wonky walls, etc. were really special, palpably centuries old. The ensuite bathroom was modern, well lit, and impeccably clean. Staff great: younger blond guy checking me in super late at night, Peruvian guy with great chat and local tips. Value for money, amazing.

This is the type of place that when you arrive, you'll be scared to sleep in the bed- I thoroughly searched for evidence of bedbugs before laying down (none found, thankfully!), but it just LOOKS shabby and uninviting. Torn wallpaper, threadbare sheets, flat pillows. Once you get used to it, though, the scruffiness adds to the charm. However, it is still nice to enter a hotel room, and think "wow, this room is nice", which you don't get here.

We were staying at the hotel with my daughter. Francisco, the hotel manager, warmly welcomed us and told us interesting stories about the hotel. He allowed us to put our luggage in the bedroom despite we arrived before the room was ready, gave us tips about where to eat, and even gave me a water bottle gadget. The hotel has a warm, cosy and homely feeling. The position is unbeatable, with view on Notre Dame and in the heart of the city, everything is walking distance. I definitely recommend this structure and look forward to go back in May!

Incredible view. Simply incredible. To me totally charming room in 17th century house. Best location EVERY. Really nice staff especially (please forgive me for not remembering properly but I THINK Ricardo?) who gave us breakfast and a heartwarming story I will always remember.

It was chilly so it would have been nice to have had an extra blanket, but then, I did not ask for one. Also, not anyone's fault but nobody told me I was supposed to leave the key every time I went out.

This hotel had real Parisian charm. A small cosy hotel in a great location. The reception staff were friendly and there were plenty of places for eating and drinking nearby. It's next door to Shakespeare and company bookstore which has a great cafe so I went there for coffee and a croissant every morning.

It doesn't have a lift as it's a small hotel so walking up 4 flights of a narrow winding staircase was an experience.
