Excellent location in the old town just a few minutes walk to Hauptstraße and river, but still quiet. Friendly helpful staff. Our train was late but the hotel was flexible with check-in. Hotel fulfilled our prior request for a quiet room on ground floor. Two key cards provided. Room was spacious (but it was the disability room). Excellent air-conditioning, which was great during a heatwave. Comfortable bed and good shower and wifi. Working safe in room. Good German breakfast buffet. Lots to see in Heidelberg and nearby. Would stay again.

Our stay here was one of our best experiences on this trip. We were very lucky with our room. The only drawback was the lack of a fridge to cool drinks, noting it was very hot. That said, I saw on our last day that reception had cold drinks for sale, and there were plenty of shops handy. Ubers seemed to have difficulty getting to the hotel but pick-up points were not far away.

If you're looking for the perfect place to stay in Heidelberg, I can’t recommend Hotel & Gasthaus Backmulde enough! My daughter, who is studying at the University of Heidelberg, suggested this hotel since it was just around the corner from where she lives—and it couldn’t have been in a better location. We were able to meet up with her daily and easily explore the charming town on foot. From the moment we arrived, the friendly staff made us feel welcome. They were incredibly helpful, answering all our questions, offering great suggestions, and even providing a handy map that made navigating the city a breeze. The housekeeping service was impeccable, refreshing our room and towels daily—a true treat! I especially appreciated the ability to open the windows to let in a lovely breeze and enjoy the fresh air. It’s those little touches that make a stay memorable. Hotel & Gasthaus Backmulde truly felt like a home away from home. With its excellent location, outstanding service, and warm atmosphere, it’s an ideal choice for anyone visiting Heidelberg. We can’t wait to come back!

I can't think of anything that would have made our stay any better.

The location was perfect an the hotel was beautiful. Rooms were large, shower was hot and pressure excellent., very clean! Staff was very nice.

I don't normally check out physically from a room but when I left I was told I didnt pay.. It was reserved with my card but they don't automatically charge it. It was a little bit confusing. and a little bit of a language issue. but all was handled and it didn't make my rating go down. It was just a little confusing at the end.

Really excellent traditional hotel for quiet, amenities and comfort. Fantastic location for river and Altstadt - 1 min walk to longest pedestrian street in Germany filled with history. Friendly and super helpful staff. Food choice great both for breakfast and high quality German dining in the evening. Well worth getting the Heidelberg Card for travel.,museums and Castle.

The hotel's location is very central in a courtyard off a small street which is right in the heart of the historic old town district. Everywhere in the Altstadt is with 10 minutes walk. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was spotlessly clean, was comfortable and well located. Daily breakfast was offered from 7am to 11am and provided an excellent selection of food and drink including cooked items to order.

The WiFi was free but throughout the three days was very poor in our room, a room which was close to the hotel reception. The signal was weak and frequently the WiFi cut out, sometimes then not even being detected by our iPhones and iPad. Perhaps a review of internet provision if necessary and certainly a focus on providing a better extension of WiFi facilities with an up to date mesh system should be considered. It would certainly be appreciated by clients. It's a pity that this aspect was weak as otherwise this is a superb hotel.

Fabulous location, very nice accommodations and wonderful staff. The included breakfast offered a nice variety of items. We lived how close it was to the main shopping area and restaurants. Excellent value, comfortable - I was traveling with my adult son, so greatly appreciated the option of having separate beds - and extremely clean. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

The property is in the middle of everything you’d want to see or do in Heidelberg Altstadt. The rooms were clean and quiet, the breakfast was delicious and the staff was amazing in every way. Our special requests for extra pillows and early check in were accommodated easily.

The only thing I regret is not being able to stay longer.

The location was perfect, with quick access to the hauptstraße and the Riverside. Although the breakfast at the hotel was not a huge spread, it was tasty and good. Besides, the staff were very friendly.

Although the hotel had an elevator, there were still a lot of stairs. Due to this reason, it was difficult to lug around the kinderwagon each time.

The location, you are right in the middle of Alt Stadt❣️. R The room very! Clean and housekeeping shows initiative. Pretty quiet. The service is outstanding and the breakfast is good. Eggs are made to order. Make sure to dine in the restaurant, the food is amazing!
