Hotel Arena is a nice family owned and run hotel in a small quiet street near a shopping center and a couple of streets with lots of small shops and restaurants. We like the neighbourhood. The old city is 2 kms away, but S-bahn and U-bahn are at a 10 minute walk. We always travel by train to Cologne, but Hotel Arena also has its own parking-area. Arena is clean, efficient and practical. If we sleep in Cologne, we always stay at Arena.

It is a little further out of the city, but with a train and metro station close by. You can easily get to the center. There is also a shopping center and a Lidl market close to the hotel. Quiet and well-kept place.

The room does not have a fan and as we were staying on days when the temperature reached 29 degrees, it was a little difficult to sleep. We left the window open to cool off and that's why mosquitoes entered the room. Another negative point was that on the day of my check-out, the reception was empty. Check-out started at 6:30am and we knocked on the door at 7:25am, without success. We called the number and no one answered. I went down to the kitchen area and found a female employee who didn't speak English. We left her the key, not sure that the check-out was done.

Friendly staff, helped with any queries. Great location for local cafes and shopping arcade. Also nearby U bahn into city centre within 10mins or so.

Sometimes as late sleepers, we missed the room cleaning, however the hotel reception were always happy to change towels for us

The reception was very kind and helpful. On the day I arrived, I had a change in my schedule and they allowed me to check in 3 hours earlier which was amazing as I was exhausted. Normally they don't have any kitchen cutlery or kettle in the rooms but when I asked for my medication they gave me a kettle to keep in the room. The hotel is quiet and I felt safe as a solo traveler. The room was clean and new as well.

The neighborhood is quite close to the center and the hotel is very close to the metro stop but it's not the most excellent neighborhood in Cologne. The bed could be more comfortable.

The room was as advertised, a clean bed, a bathroom, a small tv. It did the job and the staff was lovely.

It was a bit expensive for what you get. I paid on average 88€ à night I would’ve liked a bit more bang for my buck.

Beds were quite firm. A bit far from the main sights but easily accessible with public transportation. Everything else was good. The room was clean, we had everything we needed.

The heating system was off so the room was a bit cold. Also the pillows where too thin so not so comfortable
