It’s a family owned hotel with a charming gentleman who so kindly helps with suggestions for restaurants, sites and directions which are a must in this city! We enjoyed a large elegantly decorated room on the ground floor with 4 nice windows and a door to the garden. The beds, pillows and bedding were so comfortable. It is right in the city center and has covered parking next door for just $15 a night! Their breakfast was excellent and served in a darling dining area. Everything was perfect as well as the nightly rate. We would definitely return!

As all of the reviews have said, Otto was great! I knew I was booking a 'family annex' but didn't realise it was a whole multi story house with kitchen, laundry, garden etc. Fantastic atmosphere sitting outside eating our food and we saved money on our holiday by popping to Lidl and then cooking for ourselves at home. Location was great, right next door to the museum and very near to all the shops. House was stunning and the bath was my favourite thing ever! All rooms came with at least one fan, which was great for the heat wave. I can't wait to come back one day!

I struggle with mobility so the stairs were quite challenging for me in the family annex as they are spiral and steep. The banister also bends a lot and comes out of the wall in places, and with my short legs I kept banging the backs of my calves on the steps, so I just felt quite anxious using the stairs at all - it is not accessible if you have any mobility issues. This isn't the fault of the property at all and I wouldn't mark them down on it, I'm just highlighting it for other travellers who may have the same worries!

Just WOW! What a cool experience to have stayed in a hotel that is part of a 12th Century medieval town wall! This property does not play up its historical value enough. The rooms are a tad dated but it fits with overall vibe and was very comfortable and convenient. The views of the valley are stunning! The location is exceptional and rooms are very quiet. We will be recommending this to all of our friends for years to come. Parking is also very easy and reasonable (€10/night). Unload your car first because there's no elevator and then the reception will show you the locked garage up the street (very close and convenient).

This hotel was beautiful. An exquisite location on the wall of the old town above the valley and beautifully appointed. We appreciated all the exquisite decorative touches and attention to detail. It also catered to all your needs with tea and coffee making, an iron and ironing board and mini bar/ fridge. The hotel's breakfast area was a beautiful light conservatory area there was also a lounge area. It is obvious that the owners and operators had really considered the comfort of travellers whilst in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

Beware there is no lift.

I first stayed at this hotel going on for 35 years ago. It hasn’t changed one bit! Herr Berger, now 85, still works there all day, immaculate in his suit and perfectly charming at all times. The rooms are the same, elegantly timeless furniture, immaculately clean and with wonderful views over the valley and gardens. The breakfast is still the same, bread, ham, cheese, cereal, eggs and wonderful jams. Nothing has changed, so don’t expect it to! If you want lifts, air conditioning, modern interiors and slick service, then Rothenburg and the Burg Hotel are probably not for you. If you want old fashioned gentility, peace and quiet and a charming host, then you couldn’t find a better place to stay

Room size was good and so was the bathroom. Very nice bath (but can be slippy if you use it as a shower). Lovely view of the Taube valley from the breakfast room. Eggs are cooked to order. Short walk to town centre and the Christmas market. If you have an hour or two to spare there are some very nice walks (on surfaced paths) around the vineyards and down to the old river bridge. We went for the Christmas market but the architecture of the town would make it well worth a visit at any time of year.

Be aware that the hotel is on four floors with no lift, so may be unsuitable for some. I managed to close the safe but could not open it. Luckily I always test safes before putting any valuables in. I was told none of the hotel safes are working correctly - parts are unavailable due to the Ukraine war.

This is a small, cosy and well maintained family run hotel in a convenient but quiet location just a few minutes walk from the town centre. We stayed in a pleasant room with a four poster bed and small living area with windows on two sides offering pleasant views. The room was nice and warm even though outside was -2. We parked our car in the hotels private and secure garage for €15 which was great. We ate twice at a lovely restaurant called der Reichskuchenmeister which was excellent and is just a few minutes walk away. The historic town is very pretty and I would not hesitate to stay at this friendly hotel again.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. The location was truly unique, situated directly on part of the old city wall, offering breathtaking views of the valley below. It was the perfect spot to take in the history and charm of the area. Our room was immaculately clean and comfortable, with extra towels already provided, which was a thoughtful touch. The bed was comfortable, and the room was well-appointed with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The breakfast was excellent, with eggs cooked to our request, and a wide selection of other options to start our day off right. But what really made our stay stand out was the exceptional service from the staff. Every person we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and supported. One example of the hotel's exceptional service was when we checked out, they allowed us to keep our car in the garage for a few extra hours, so we could continue exploring the town without having to repark in another location. They also invited us to use the bathroom facilities before starting our trip home, which was a thoughtful gesture that showed they truly cared about our comfort and convenience. We were so impressed with our stay that we will absolutely return to this hotel to continue our explorations of the area. The combination of its unique location, comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast, and exceptional service makes it the perfect choice for anyone looking to experience the best of this beautiful town. We can't wait to come back and enjoy it all again!

We were first greeted by such a darling gentleman, who is the owner, dressed in his suit and tie. He was such a kind man and told us since they had had a last minute cancellation, they would move us to some upgraded rooms. Let me tell you, the rooms were beautiful, classy and adorable, with the most amazing views!!!! The breakfast was so delicious with many options and fresh food. Our stay here was exceptional!!! Thank you for making our stay so memorable. Your kindness and hospitality, not to mention your hotel, were all above and beyond what we ever expected. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay!!!!!

Absolute nothing!!!!!

In years of personal and business travel, I don't ever write a review, although this time is very different. From the moment you walk into the foyer to check in, to the thoughfulness for an appropriate parking place for an oversized van in a very secure parking garage and to a beautifully handwritten checkout invoice (signed by Mr. Otto), staying at Burghotel was a delight. Thank you, Otto and his kind daughter, for making our visit to Rothenburg a wonderful experience. Here's to health, happiness for you both, and many happy guests to Burghotel!
