Breakfast is not complementary. Hence we, of 5 members, opted to eat out. Plenty of restaurants around. We had Pongal, idly, vada and dosai. Coffee was superb. Tea was not available. The restaurant attached to Raya's Grand serves lunch. The South Indian thali was sumptuous, with unlimited servings of rice and vegetables. Prices are stiff. The hotel offered a 12 to 12 check in and check out. We arrived in kumbakonam at 6 am. I pleaded with hotel if we can be offered 2 rooms at 6 am itself, as otherwise we have to book another hotel for 6 hours. Our pleas fell on deaf ears which made me to book 2 rooms in a homestay for 1 day. Nearly 3000 Rs. Were spent unnecessarily due to Raya's Grand refusal. This was a great disappointment. I pointed out to them that though I have booked till 12 pm on 19th, we are leaving at 6 pm on 18th as per our train schedule. We are a loser in this respect too.

The hotel's refusal to provide the rooms from 6 am on 17th, as the check in was 12 noon. We had to book 2 rooms in another hotel for spending 6 hrs. This made us poor by Rs.3000. Their policy is check in/out is from 12 noon if the booking is made thru online and 24 hrs. if made directly with the hotel is not understood, let alone appreciated.

Probably one of the best hotels in Kumbakonam! I had a lovely stay here. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. The staff at this hotel were extremely helpful and courteous. A special thank to Rajesh for helping me set up the itinerary and driver for a tour of nearby temples. The location of this place was also perfect, right in front of the small pond and Kasi Viswanathar temple. The layout and internal decoration is also quite inviting.

Nothing, it was great!

As good as always! Clean, comfortable, good amenities. Safe for ladies and families. I like the hair dryer, water boiler and the morning newspaper. Beds are comfortable. The large mirror and the makeup mirror are good too. Good location for temple visits.

It should be possible to regulate the AC (fan speed etc) yourself. In some rooms it is pre-set and very noisy. Not possible to adjust (diminish the power). Pillows could be either lower or softer (but this is personal). The corridors should be quiet at night (but after asking, the people - mainly the staff speaking very loud with each other - were quiet).

The location of this property is excellent and a convenient one to move around places where we wanted to visit in Kumbakonam. Also the ambience and cleanliness maintained at this place was a world class level. Dinner and Breakfast we had at this place was also excellent.

Nothing to mention here. Everything was perfect.

The front desk always had someone who spoke excellent English and was very helpful. Told us where to change money. Booked a car for us at a reasonable price (an engineer from San Francisco we met - visiting his home town - said he’d paid just about the same). The attached restaurant (not part of the Raya chain) was also good. The location is excellent. About 1 km from train station and easy to find - being next to the Mahamaham water “tank”.

The location was excellent, allowed us to go to temples and return to the room in the afternoons when the heat was up due to summer. The restaurant attached to the hotel was also very good.

The keys are the old fashioned metal ones very heavy to carry. Would be great if they upgrade to the now usual card based access keys.

The room and the bed were comfortable. AC was effective and made the stay comfortable as the outside temperatures were high at that time.

No availability of toilet paper. And the room was a not noisy because of the neighbors.

I recently stayed at Raya's Grand Hotel and was impressed with their exceptional service and amenities. A standout feature was the well-organized designated area for drivers, showcasing the hotel's thoughtful consideration for all guests. Highly recommend.

Room Ambience

No separate service lift. From 4th floor, on function times, used banana leaves are carried over by the catering vendors in the same lift and spilling over that. They are not serious on spillages. Bad smell in the lift over the time due to this. Very embarrassing to wait for lift for more than 15 minutes, due to this service/catering persons usage

The proximity of the hotel to various locations

The upkeep is quite required. On few things the hotel is quite rigid..we had booked for 2 adults and a kid. We specifically told them that we don't require an additional bed however, the bed was kept outside our room for the period of our stay. We said we are willing to pay since we booked however it was never removed
