Gorgeous farmhouse in a very picturesque location. We stayed in one of the two larger upstairs spaces. Extremely comfortable with everything you need to make home cooked meals. Shuttered windows which we left open at night to enjoy the full moon then the sunrise in the morning. Hosts were lovely and we enjoyed a communal bbq with them and other guests one evening which was not only delicious but very memorable. Shout out to the gorgeous Maria who is a great asset to the establishment. Breakfast is a simple offering. Pool gorgeous overlooking the rolling Tuscan hills - too cold at the time of the year for us to swim but enjoyed sitting by it taking in the views.

Bathroom could do with a bit of an update. Shower cubicle very small (though so many were throughout Italy).

Gorgeous place. So quiet and beautiful facilities, perfect for a romantic get away in the country side. We loved the pool, so beautiful particularly at sunset. The room was cosy and had everything we needed and the aircon was perfect for hot summer weather. We also did a BBQ experience which we would definitely recommend - they cook you delicious meat with wine in the gardens on the property. Breakfast was delicious. The staff were lovely and they also had a beautiful little kitten hanging around who we loved.

Il Macchione is situated in a quiet and beautiful spot on the rolling hills of Tuscany near Pienza. Its position makes it ideal for exploring the incredible wine regions nearby. The views around the property are beautiful and many of the rooms look out onto the countryside. The activities are fun and Francesco has enormous passion for his work with the oil mill. The lunches as part of the activities are exceptional.

As it’s a small family run operation, it can be difficult to get hold of the staff regarding check in, activities etc and many of the staff work in other jobs around the property and other Il Macchione agricultural businesses. We were unable to do one of the activities due to communication issues.

Loved everything. Definately want to go back again. Firsty, the scenary is breaktaking. We had peaceful time having morning tea, practiving yoga and just looking around. They provided diverse activites like cooking class, bycicling, winery tour, etc. and it could be a good option to enjoy Toscany. Secoundly, room is fully equipped for cooking or drinks and bed is super comfortable. Amenities are from Tosnana called IDEA Toscana which is naturally made. We loved this produtcs so made us buy body cream and other stuff. Lastly, staff is amazing. They are kind and nice. I highly recommend this place.

An incredible place for nature lovers. Surrounded by fields and valleys. The warmth and excellent service of the staff, Maria and Marcelo. The facilities make you feel like you are in the past with the luxuries of today We will surely comeback

It is suggested to put a door on the area used to store garbage, which was adjacent to our room. A minor issue: inside the room, the trash bin is very inconvenient to handle. There was one day when the hot water failed in the morning during a shower. Marcelo resolved it within a reasonable time, but it required us to shower in another room. We expected an apology for the inconvenience from the manager, which never came. The breakfast format, although very good, is not very flexible. You have to request everything from the attendant, which can become bothersome

Just perfect

This place is AMAZING - everything is great. The rooms are perfect, the air conditioning is so good, the pool is really wonderful. The location is perfect to explore Val D'Orcia and there's free parking in Pienza which is only 4 mins drive. Francesco and the team are very helpful and provided a number of driving itineraries by Whatsapp. Their sister restaurant in Pienza (Terrazza Della Val D'Orcia) is absolutely wonderful and you get lovely extras if you stay in Il Macchione - a free glass of bubbles, and 10% discount on the bill. Stay here! You'll love it. You will love it - stay here.

We liked almost everything - maybe except breakfast! Our breakfast order got lost on translation on the last morning and it wasn't entirely to our taste.

Location, vibe, aesthetics / beauty, staff - all in a great location - a short drive to Pienza village and also convenient to Montepulciano and Montalcino. We participated in the olive oil tour (pressed on site), learned a lot in a short time and were served a delicious lunch afterwards. If only we had more time we could have also gone truffle hunting, taken a wine tour and visited the local hot springs - all available through Francesco.! I highly recommend staying here to experience Val d'Orcia in all of its glory!

Everything was perfect. The staff were very friendly and on hand to answer any questions we had. We were visiting due to going to a wedding, there were no taxis available to take us and the owner offered to take us! Breakfast every morning was lovely sitting outside in the courtyard and the grounds and gardens at the property were immaculate. We would 100% stay again if we were ever in the area again.

We could not think about any single improvement point, every single detail in Il Macchione is taken care of. The location is unique, peaceful and without any other house nearby, you can really relax, rest and enjoy the nice views 360. We received the apartment as soon as we arrived, super clean, warm and friendly reception by the family hosts and the apartment had everything we needed, including a complete kitchen set, including a good selection of local wines to avoid buying them outside. The bathroom has high-quality local products for free (soaps, creams...) which can be later purchased at reception. There is a wide selection of local products to choose for breakfast. We also took a cooking class (pasta) onsite with a professional chef for all the family, which both the kid and us loved. Highly recommendable location to stay if you are visiting Val d'Orcia, and just few minutes away from Gladiator film real locations! We just missed using the beautiful pool with views of the valley because we had rainy days, we will have to come back!
