The location is excellent, right in the heart of Trastevere, but somehow quiet and peaceful. You are seconds away from Santa Maria square and multiple cafes, bars and restaurants. The staff are amazing, so incredibly friendly and helpful, Frederico checked us in, and showed us places to go a map provided, we asked for restaurant recommendations, and the transfers to and from the airport were seamlessly organised. Breakfast was fairly simple but made with lovely ingredients - beautiful scrambled eggs, cheese and ham as well as fruit, yoghurt and cereals and the most delicious pastries and cakes. The coffee was superb and Romeo added little extra touches like individual decoration of our names on the top. We visited in early February and while we had sunshine, the mornings and evenings were cool in the shade. We managed one drink on the roof terrace and a coffee in the lovely courtyard. I imagine this is really nice later in the Spring. The rooms are not especially modern but the bed was super comfortable with very nice bed linen. Tolietries were provided and the hairdryer did its job. Everything was very clean. If you want 5 star luxury trappings, this is not the place for you but it is a lovely, personal little hotel and we would love to stay here again.

What this hotel might lack in updates it more than makes up for in cleanliness, incredibly friendly staff and amenities. We stayed for just one night at the end of our trip as we returned to Rome for a flight out; I really wanted to check out the Trastavere neighborhood. I was so impressed with the genuine friendliness from everyone we met here, and especially the handsome young guy who worked the front desk that night whose name we never caught. They offer a beautiful apertivo buffet in evenings (just buy a drink) and we only got to enjoy a cappuccino but the included breakfast was fantastic. I believe all or most rooms are ground level facing a comfy central courtyard full of orange trees and a funny cat, it feels very safe behind locked gates. The Trastavere neighborhood is SUPER FUN and delicious and we are so glad we stayed here. But just FYI it’s more about a cool vibe with lots of hustle and church bells all night; if you are looking for super luxurious peace and quiet I would probably look to a different area of Rome. There were lots of Americans staying here.

I’ve read the hotel used to be a convent and there is a church right there. Not the hotel’s fault but the church bells rang on the hour and half hour all night. Would still choose this place in Trastavere though!

My partner and our 6 year old spent 3 nights in Hotel Santa Maria and it was absolutely perfect for our stay in Rome. We went to the Vatican on Friday and the Colosseum on Saturday. Location-wise, the hotel is almost in the middle of those two places, around a 30 minute walk, obviously quicker without a child. It is also surrounded by a great choice of restaurants. There is a secure gateway into the hotel which was fantastic as almost every other hotel opens onto the street. Once inside you'll find a beautiful courtyard that is actually an orange and lemon orchard. There's even a lounge where my daughter and I played chess and I even had a nap on one of the extremely comfy chairs! The room was clean, the shower/bath did its job perfectly and the beds were very comfortable. Finally, the staff were all a pleasure to deal with. You could feel that they're passionate about and have great pride in their hotel and they absolutely should be. They always greeted us with a smile and were so friendly and welcoming. A special mention to Marvin and Kevin in the breakfast room. They put on a wonderful breakfast, are so professional and are amazing at their job. From the little details in the lattes to making my daughter smile. She also couldn't get enough of the hot chocolate and finished every breakfast with marshmallows from the guys. I honestly can't recommend Hotel Santa Maria enough. After staying for 3 nights I would just tell you to forget staying anywhere else, stay in Hotel Santa Maria. It has 3 stars but it gives you 5 star service, is in a great location with comfortable rooms and the best staff. Book your stay here, you won't regret it.

Staff (the male ones) are the most wonderful and helpful hotel personnel I have ever met. Same goes for the Filipino crew in the breakfast room - they made me look forward to breakfast in the mornings. I wished I could say the same about the female staff who was at the desk - she sorta ruined my impression of the place so avoid her please, she does not try to help their clients in the slightest.

If you ever message them with a question or a notice on this app/site, you get a canned message from Tiziana saying it will take 48 hours (!!!!) to respond. In this day and age? Really? What if my question is urgent???? Even hotels with hundreds of rooms respond quicker.

I stayed here 14 years ago and wanted to stay again but pricing was always a bit high. I got lucky and bought a non refundable rate finally. What a great stay!!! It’s in the lively Trastevere area. Get ready to do a lot of walking but then come home to a quiet oasis with lemon trees. The room was small but I was a single so it was perfect. It was very clean The bed was great. The shower had a tub. The shower curtain could be replaced. The staff were very nice. The air conditioner was unbelievably good!! July stay 35 c The breakfast was excellent!! Served at 730 The happy hour 530 pm served free snacks with drink you pay full price. At first I thought the drinks were expensive (8 euro wine and 12 euro Aperol) but the drinks are basically doubles lol so it was a wonderful addition The snacks were delicious!! Bruschettas veggies etc. They also have a upstairs patio ( shown in pics I added) I was very pleased with my stay. Thanks to the staff!!

When they are cleaning, the cart can be outside your room so if ur trying to nap at 2 pm, it’s a bit noisy to do so.

Loved the security with a gate enclosing a peaceful, tranquil patio. Very little outside noise. Our room had it’s own private patio set for 1 couple. The shower/bath combo had great water pressure. Daily breakfast was nice with fresh fruit, yogurt, croissants, eggs, deli meat and tomatoes. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Upon arrival, the receptionist came out and carried our luggage along the long driveway.

We had a very small room with not a lot of storage. Had to live out of our suitcase. Walls are thin able to occasionally hear neighbors and water running when neighbor used their shower.

I recently stayed at a hotel in Rome and had a pleasant experience. We booked a junior suite, which was comfortable and met our expectations. The staff were very friendly and attentive, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The location of the hotel is perfect, with easy access to all major attractions, making it ideal for sightseeing. One area that could use some attention is the cleanliness of the rooms, especially the bathrooms. While the rooms were generally fine, a more thorough cleaning, particularly in the bathroom, would have been appreciated. Additionally, the breakfast selection was good, but I think there could be more vegetarian options to cater to different dietary preferences. Overall, a wonderful stay, and I’d definitely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Rome.

The hotel was in the perfect location for seeing Rome, approx half an hour from all the big sites. Trastevere itself was a fabulous, bustling area full of good eateries. The hotel was private, secure and quiet. The staff were all super friendly, helpful and went above and beyond. The lovely guy on the reception (Andreas? )recommended some fab restaurants to us and was very welcoming. Kevin the barman was also brilliant, as were all of the breakfast staff. Would recommend visiting the bar at happy hour for the lovely snacks. The room was a great size and very clean. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
