What a great experience! it is located on a hill and a very quiet area, so you have a nice view and nothing but running water and singing birds. The customer service here is exactly why Japan's customer service is so famous. I was picked up at Beppu station at a convenient time and taken there by car. At the check in I was given all the indications and while I was having dinner they prepared the room for the night. Dinner was extraordinary, I requested a vegetarian menu and it felt like authentic japanese food with vegetables only, truly delicious, same for breakfast. The room was simply espectaccular, I had a private onsen and it was beautiful and relaxing. The place was breathtaking, the service outstanding and the room was amaizng, I definitely want to go back!
I'm completely happy, even the price was very good for the quality of the place and the service, so no remarks.

A great escape from the hustling bustling life. This is a small ryokan privately owned, each room is very large and housed in its own bungalow. The decoration is not as fancy as the previous ryokans I have stayed at, but it’s clean with a nice view of the ground. The highlight of this ryokan is the serene and immaculate ground and onsen, where you are part of nature, with the sound of water fall and birds chirping. Two meals in the private dining room are included, very delicious and of high quality. We stayed for 3 days, and no dish was repeated. The onsens are outdoors and large, there are 2 private onsens one can book for 50 minutes at the time. The owner of the ryokan is on site. He is so hard working, picking up and dropping off the guests, make sure the meals on plated and served beautifully, and every aspect of our stay is welcoming and comfortable.
The water pressure at the outdoor onsens are not consistent.

This was our one big splurge night and I was interested to see if it felt like it would be worth it as lower budget travellers - it definitely did! Absolutely beautiful grounds, delicious foods, they were able to accommodate my vegetarian request (and i think actually my meal was vegan actually!) while still matching the really high quality of food that my partner was getting. The private onsens are actually open air, which we loved.
The ONLY downside I would say is, we came down to beppu specifically because its known to be a tattoo friendly onsen town, but the gendered public onsen here did specify no tattoos, so we could only do the private / family reservation onsen. Since we were only there for one night this wasn't an issue but I would have been sad about it if we were staying longer, and adopting tattoo friendly policies like most of the other onsen in Beppu have done would be a huge plus.

Beautiful and restful stay at this Ryokan. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Ha, the young man who showed us to our room, helped us to understand all of the amenities of the property. He was also the one who explained all of the beautiful foods that we were presented with at our dinner meal. We booked a room with a private onsen, but we also reserved a family onsen for one hour the afternoon we arrived. My husband and I really enjoyed the hot waters of the onsen. The breakfast meal was a wonderful variety of local foods as well as. We stayed one night and are so happy for the experience.

Traditional Japanese Steam Bath House - hot spring (Ryokan) male and female sections separated. You can also book a family hot spring and have a private section to yourselves for a while! The ultimate re-connect with your kids! Later, Do the traditional dinner as well! Blast out and dress up in traditional costumes. Oh, you’re sleeping on the floor as well! Japanese style….
Bit hard to find, and even though not far from train station taxi driver did not understand, but actually thats a good thing! Try “right next to the big yellow chair lift up the mountain”. Or, Write down the hotel phone number when you book and ask taxi drivers to ring.

Everything was quite exceptional: appreciated pick up and drop off from train station; the personnel at front desk went out of the way to meet our needs; our own house with private outdoor onsen; able to book family onsen so both my husband and I can go together; the food was outstanding; the only 11 guest accommodations.
Only thing I did not care for, was in February, the traditional house we had, though the main room was OK, stepping out to other the side rooms (two sitting areas, bathrooms and hall way were cold. This would likely not be a problem at other times of the year.

Absolutely amazing experience. Very near perfect but can't help but give it a ten. The public and private outdoor baths were really enjoyable. Each dining experience especially the dinners were an adventure. Staff were friendly and helped send us to the station as well as pick us up when we arrived. The decor and surroundings really transport you to another world, while still having the modern amenities to make us comfortable. Location is a bit remote but if you like the peace and tranquility that makes it even better.
Staff can speak and understand limited English, but they make up for it with a very willing attitude to help and assisted by google translate. Wish the private hot spring could be opened for a bit longer. When showering the taps can take a bit of time to warm up, but that's just a matter of getting used to it.

Beautiful Ryokan that backs up right to the mountains. Had a very pretty koi pond and a beautiful stream and waterfall nearby. We loved the private onsen and it was very easy to book. I didn’t get a chance to go to the public onsen but my wife said it was very nice. We ordered the breakfast and dinner meals for the 3 nights we stayed. The meals were tasty and beautifully prepared. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. There were a few rooms that had their own private outside onsens that I would have loved to have booked but I think they book well ahead of time.
It was a bit far from the JR station and town (30 minute walk) but it was an easy 10 minute taxi ride and the owner was happy to drive and pick us up if he had the time.

The staff is very gentle and trying to meet your expectations. The dinner can be kinda "weird" at first glance but it was totally worth it! We stayed on mixed beds so you can use the western style or going full futon on the ground. The bath area on the room was huge. The onsen part have the public one (open almost 24h) and the private bath (open until 22:30) You need to reserve to used it.
It's kinda isolated on the city so if you go without a car and without some snacks before you book-in, you can risk of being hungry before the breakfast. The temperature on the bath on bathroom takes a while to get warm/hot (10 minutes) they advise about it. Both are no PROBLEM but need to keep in mind when booking it.

This ryokan is something very special. From the kind welcome with freshly prepared team to the extraordinary lengths the team has gone to to make us feel welcome and looked after. We let them know in advance that we are vegans and they magicked an incredible array of deliciousness and beauty onto our private room dining table every morning and evening without fail. I still dream of the many variations of tofu and vegetables. The Japanese gardens are a pleasure to walk through and the onsen are a dream. I preferred the public onsen to the private one, as the private is rather small. Still very nice.
nothing. everything was perfect. To manage expecations: this is a little off the beaten path so you should consider coming here with a car.
