Fufu Hakone provides a five-star Japanese Onsen hotel experience. I loved almost every aspect of the hotel except the location, lol. But the free shuttle service is quite helpful as well. We used the shuttle to travel between the hotel and Gora station before check-in and from the hotel to Sōunzan station when we checked out. The service of the hotel was professional, polite, respectful, and personally oriented. It was a very impressive stay. The Japanese Kaiseki Ryori was delicious and artfully presented. We only spent one night at the hotel because we were informed that the rooms were fully booked the next day, we would definitely come back for our holidays to Japan.

Location. You cannot travel using public transportation without the free shuttle service.

Great stay and service. We really appreciated how well they treated the vegetarians in our group. Japanese food is typically not vegetarian friendly but here the chefs went out of their way to prepare delicious vegetarian (no fish broth!) kaiseki meals for us. In some of the courses, the veg options were even better than the non-veg ones.

The property is close to some amazing hikes and trails, but they didn't really provide any suggestions or ideas. I think most guests either stay at the resorts itself or explore by car.

We loved everything about our stay and only wished we could have stayed longer. The private onsen in our room was the best thing with great views, room was spacious, comfortable and clean, staff went above and beyond and we were always greeted enthusiastically, the environment was calm and peaceful and the traditional Japanese meal was exceptional (although a bit too much that we couldn't finish it). A huge thank you to our serving staff and the gentleman during breakfast was lovely! The kids loved the place! If you want to indulge, this is the place and I would come back again. I was happily surprised about the pick up and drop off to Gora station as well.

The Japanese breakfast was great but the Western one were acceptable. The butler that serves our room was amazing, he was polite, always carry smile and nothing was too troublesome for him. All the meals we had for dinner were amazing and we were travelling with family to celebrate my Dad's birthday and they gave us a private room for dinner every night and we were very impressed. We had an enjoyable stay!

It'll be better if there are a bit more facilities available at the hotel for guests to enjoy and one thing that I didn't like was how I need to get in the private onsen before I could close the blinds in the bathroom. It's rather inconvenient when you're all dressed. It's especially tricky for seniors! It would be much better if they install electric blinds instead of manually operated ones.

The hotel is absolutely perfect - we regretted staying only for one night. The rooms are super private, sometimes it feels like you are the only guests in the hotel. Private onsen is a pure luxury. The rooms are basically like 1 bedroom villa, super spacious, modern, comfortable and clean. The aesthetics of the hotel is beautiful: modern and minimalistic design blending with nature. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and memorable. Japanese hospitality is unmatched - we felt super welcome and the service was outstanding. Hakone is a beautiful area worth exploring - there are amazing museums also just around the corner from the hotel.

Absolutely nothing, wished we stayed longer

Hudge amount of meal with a balanced quality and quantity. Nice desert. Freedom of choices on top of omesaki course. Good and lean beef choice. Ok enough for meal. Small but well designed public spa. Clean . Good osen. Nice to offer free beer, chocolate milk, and ice sticks for after osen cool off. Bed is super comfortable. Not much support and firm but very pluffy and soft. Nice soft towels, shampoo and body lotions. Good private in room osen. Ample room space.

Staff forget to warn me about traffic gem in afternoon from odawara station to hotel. Regular would take less tha. 40m but took us 105minutes. 2.5 times than estimate. Meter price is not much but bathroom break is /may needed. From hotel to station on Monday morning is about 30 minutes. Ritz Carlton warned us about similar situation at other location that traffic may require 40minutes ride to exceed 3 hours. We were upset we didn’t get warned. We may get prepared or change schedule to avoid the traffic.

Fantastic private onsen in room, big enough for two people to stretch out in. Dinner was very delicious as well. Staff were attentive and friendly.

We requested Western breakfast but were told that was only available on a second night stay (we were only there for one night.) We had just had the traditional Japanese dinner the night before so the Japanese breakfast so soon after was a bit much for our taste. The food was very good however.

Staff is so courteous and polite. Everyone would greet you even when you walked past them. An absolutely great experience with onsen and Keiseki meals. Everything is well organised for you before your arrival. Planning in this accommodation is meticulous. Our room is Comfort Premium Suite on the 3rd floor which has a great view of the mountains and feel very private. The location is quite far from Gora Station but the ryokan offers shuttle bus service. Their service is prompt and punctual.

The first day breakfast was mainly Japanese with a lot of salty preserved vegetables to go with rice. A bit too much of carbs and not enough protein. The second day breakfast has more varieties which is more enjoyable.

Best accommodation of our Japan trip. The staff are extremely nice, understanding and polite. The room is very clean and they would change the private onsen water daily if you would like so. The breakfast and dinner are excellent - tasty and huge portion. Will definitely stay at Fufu if we visit Hakone again.

Maybe to consider reducing the food portion.
