We enjoyed personalized care by the host. We were the only ones staying at the time as it was off-season. He treated us like royalty. This stay was a gift experiencing Japanese culture which is what we were looking for. He speaks some English which was very helpful. We also used Google translate. He even gave us a lift to the train station as it was really cold. I would stay again!

I would imagine if the hotel was full it would have been awkward bathing in the onsen with others. Also the cafe has not been open since COVID in 2020. We had a room with a toilet and sink and did not have to share. I know there are some rooms that have to share.

Very welcoming host who helped us get the most out of our time in Hakone. There are lockers to leave your suitcase if you arrive before check in, so you can get exploring. At check-in we were given a detailed map and advice on how to navigate around Hakone in the most efficient and interesting way - very easy to get around the surrounding area from Myojokan! We left at 8am on our full day there and saw everything we wanted to, while skipping lots of the crowds. Then in the evenings there is the private onsen bath, one for men and one for women, one person at a time to relax in, which was the perfect end to the day and we never had to wait. The Inn is traditional and was a delightful way to experience the local culture. Plus there's some very good restaurant options both nearby and a short train ride away, and a 7-11 just down the road. Easy to get to, easy to get around and very welcoming. Would recommend to anyone who is open to a more traditional experience and would definitely stay again, thank you! Oh, and we also definitely recommend getting the Hakone free pass! Local transport was more expensive than we thought, and it also helps you skip lines at the bigger tourist attractions not having to line up for tickets.

Y-san, the owner is a super- host. Exceptionally friendly and helpful in giving travel tips, he worked hard to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The town is tranquil, the location is good because you can easily travel to various places to see different views of Mt. Fuji. We also loved the natural private onsen and the fresh, clean daily yukata provided at the inn. A soothing, hot bath then sleeping on futons on tatami mat floors was the perfect way to end each day of our stay in Japan.

The owner is incredibly friendly and gave us loads of advice for doing the Hakone Free Pass loop and for food in the local area. Room is in a traditional Japanese style and so we slept on a mattress on the floor but it was still quite comfortable. The natural onsen was lovely and refreshing in the morning and we were able to store our bags whilst we went to explore more. Room was our biggest yet travelling around Japan and just what we needed after the hustle and bustle of the major cities.

Nothing against the hotel/inn however I would advise staying in a different location if your main objective is to see Mt Fuji. You can still see it doing the Hakone loop but it was not what we expected and so it was harder to get that all important picture!

The inn keeper was very nice and hospitable. If you need directions towards anywhere he will help you get there as well as help you get onto the correct the bus. The public bath was nice and small with hair and body wash that smelt amazing.

If I were to say some thing about would be that the personnal bath did not work. I wasn't entire sure why, but the public bath they have within the build itself was very nice.

We really loved this traditional Onsen. It has all what you need if you want this special experience. The Onsen itself is small but sufficient for this place. The best of this place is the host. He was so friendly and welcoming. He gave us so many recommendations of places to visit during these 3 days. We followed them almost 100% and it was perfect. At first impression the host might seem a little bit odd or different, never impolite though. The longer you stay you recognise that he is proud of his place and wants to provide the best experience to his guests. Highly recommend!!

We absolutely love Myojokan inn!! It truly has a special place in our heart. Wai-san (the owner) is such a sweet man and gave us many suggestions and recommendations along the way. He completely planned our itinerary for us and gave us tips for a very local experience. The area is very quaint and a lovely getaway from the bustling city. The room is a very traditional and we had a lovely mountain view. The onsen is absolutely lovely and we had it all to ourselves if you time it correctly. We highly recommend this inn!!

Lovely traditional inn in the centre of Moyanoshita, centrally within the Hakone area and easy to reach from the raipwqy station. The room was kept very clean and tidy and nicely equipped in traditional Japanese style with effective air conditioning. The onsen bath was available both mornings and evenings and was a great way to relax, while I was there I was always alone in the bath. There are a few restaurants nearby, I ate at the local Korean and had a delicious meal (the Japanese options were shut while I was there on a Tuesday night).

The host was very friendly, probably a bit too friendly. He offered a lot of advice about what to do in the area but was a bit too intense for me.

This is a wonderful ryokan with a natural spring onsen. The owner is SO incredibly friendly and welcoming. He is a pleasure to talk to, and he helped me with directions and planning. My room, the restroom, onsen, etc, were very clean. I enjoyed the ability to change the color of the lights in my room, itcreated a wonderful and relaxing atmosphere. I wish that I could have stayed longer. The location is great for easy access to onsen and the Hakone Loop.

Nothing.

As English-speaking Americans, we did our best to navigate our trip around Japan with hand-waving and Google Translate. We were looking for a ryokan in the Odawara area, and are glad we chose Myojokan. We had zero research on the Hakone area. We expected to take a train to Miyanoshita, but we didn't expect a trolley ride up the mountain with three switch-backs. We were taken aback by the fun train ride and beautiful mountain view. We arrived at Myojokan, and were greeted by who we believed to be the owner. We sat down to discuss check-in, and he rushed through it in just a few minutes. He spoke some English, but we both had our translators handy, making the conversation easy. The owner then opened a paper tourist map of Hakone. He asked what we might be interested in visiting, and circled a few restaurants for us. He was polite, and seemed very interested in us and in engaging us with casual conversation. Lastly, he showed us to our room. Our room was spacious enough to comfortably sleep the three of us, with some space to relax over tea. After dinner, we took turns dipping into the Men's onsen. It was hot, but not too hot. I could've soaked in it for a while if I wanted. It's about the size of a large bathtub. It felt very private. I don't have any tattoos, but I get the feeling the owner would not have cared if I did. There is even a convenient mini-fridge with water bottles to cool yourself down. We only stayed one night. The next morning, we intended to leave at dawn to follow the trains up the mountain. The owner graciously offered any help and information he could give us for our tourist plans. He also offered to hold our bags until we got back. Overall, it was a relaxing visit. Being a small ryokan in a small town, it felt very mom-and-pop. We were in a hurry to see everything, but next time we visit Hakone for a longer stay, we will be staying at Myojokan.

I don't have much to criticize. Watch your step exiting the onsen washroom. I missed the shallow step, and nearly tripped. But that's my fault for not reading the sign. Be sure to give yourself time to visit Hakone. Everything seems to close at 1700, so if you're from the city, keep this in mind.
