Beautiful Ryokan. The onsen was top notch and the views were immaculate. Not too busy when we went and I got to soak in a public bath with no one around. It was a private bath both night and day. After all the people you encounter everywhere in Japan, this was a great way to relax and be at peace. You do not wear shoes in the ryokan at all so you know the floor is super clean. The food and service was delicious. Mainly they give both dinner and breakfast!!! The view of the Ryokan was just beautiful. Breathtaking even when it is raining.

You have to take a bus or call a taxi to get here. You can walk it is only 15 min from the station but there are a lot of hills and the roads have a lot of fast cars. It is walkable but you will tire yourself out; It was a hike getting to the place. The rooms were very small and they did not set the bed for you. The elevator was super small. They do have instructions on how to do it though. They do open and close the Rokan door at midnight till 5 am so I don't think it's for people who like to adventure out at night.

The whole experience was great! The hotel is clean and the staffs are extremely friendly , from the man standing at the entrance to the lady at the reception. We felt welcome! Our dinner and breakfast were full of surprises. We took a lot of pictures and impressed by the staffs meticulous attitude towards their guests with perfection. Our family enjoyed our stay and felt very welcomed by their hospitality.

Is opposite cemetery.

Very clean and the family room was spacious. The staff and services were top notch. The food was amazing, Traditional Japanese Kaiseki style. Food might not be suitable for non-Japanese kids though. The kashikiri onsen was great and the views were awesome. The drinks in the fridge were part of the service. The yukatas were also nice. The Odawara plum cider was also delicious.

The location is not too far from the train station but for kids and older adults, it may be hard to walk to because of the hill you have to climb. Recommend taking a taxi.

Absolutely wonderful Ryokan. The staff was very welcoming and caring and the japanese style rooms with a view on the mountains are wonderful. You really get a good Ryokan experience with a night on futons on tatamis. The hotel is quite small (only 18 rooms) so the common resting and bath areas are very calm. The common bath is not very big but totally sufficient and it has a very nice outdoor bath. I had it all for myself late in the evening and in the morning before breakfast. There are however no bathroom in the room (only a sink and a toilet) so you have to use the common bath which is the point if you want to stay in a Ryokan but it might be a challenge for the most shy people. The evening meal and breakfast were also very good. The food was delicious and the quantities were perfect. The hotel also has 2 private baths on the top of the hotel that you can use during 45 minutes for 2200 Yen. I highly recommend to use it during your stay, they are also wonderful. You can book it at the reception during your check in to have the best availabilities. Free water, coffee and tea is provided in the common resting area. The last very positive point about this hotel is its accessibility. It is only 10 minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto Station that is a few stops from JR Odawara station where the Shinkansen stops. There is however quite a steep slope to climb just before getting to the hotel, so it might be a bit challenging if you have very big luggage. An overall great stay that I would definitely like to do again.

For anyone who loves Japanese food - the set meals were marvelous! The fish was really fresh, so good. But if you are vegetarian or vegan one should make the reservation without the set meals or talk with the staff beforehand. Also one could visit the public onsen with a tattoo

it was hard to drop the temperature in the room with the air conditioner.

Kintouen is a very relaxing ryokan (traditional Japanese inn). It is quiet, the staff is eager to help, the food is of high quality and you get plenty of it (our dinner was made of 8 different dishes + fruits for dessert). We booked the private onsen (hot bath) on the rooftop for an additional fee and it was totally worth it. The Japanese-style room was comfortable and spacious. The view on the nearby forest and mountains was great to enjoy with a cup of green tea. We stayed only one night but it felt like a deep rest for our bodies and minds. The area is also great for people who enjoy nature. I strongly recommend Hakone and this hotel for recharging your batteries during what is likely a very active and sometimes stressful trip in Japan for most tourists.

We arrived at noon and the hotel was closed. Thankfully we just had backpacks so we went on with our day and came back before 5PM for check-in. Be mindful of opening hours if you don't want to be left stranded.

Did not have to face with tour groups or family with children. English-speaking staff at the reception did helped a lot. Beautiful and zen lounge.

Equality needs improvement. Eastern tourists should be treated similarly as the westerners when it comes to introduction and explanation on meal dishes using English which is an international language. A well English-spoken staff was explaining every dishes of the meal to the western tourists and my wife and I were assigned with a staff who knows little English. She has performed well in her service but we can’t communicate our needs to her due to language barrier.

This place is fantastic! The staff are polite and can’t do enough for you. The entire hotel is spotless and the restaurant dinner was to die for. The public onsen was perfect for my morning/night bath, and the private onsen was lovely for something a little more relaxing and quiet. The local area is stunning. A map is provided in the room so we went for a walk to check out the local waterfalls, river and walk part of the Old Tokaido Highway (dating back to 17th century). If you want to experience authentic Japanese culture and hospitality in a truly stunning area of Japan rich in history - this is the place!

Nothing!

An authentic Japanese-style hotel. It is quite old but very clean. The ryokan is nice. The location is good. I’d like to express gratitude to the chef who provided us with wonderful dinners and breakfasts for two days, and to the staff member Arunita, who introduced us to Japanese cuisine.

It was challenging to sleep on Japanese-style futons and sit on the floor. But that’s just our European habits. This hotel has checkout issues for everyone. There are no taxis, and buses around that time are completely full with no available seats. I recommend the hotel keep reserve cars or buses for such situations. All guests are willing to pay for this service.

Dinner, kaiseki style, was very good and the staff was superfriendly. My partner is allergic to seafood and they adjusted the menu very well (you should inform them in advance). Japanese breakfast was super. Private bath on the terras was great. The rooftop onsen was very nice for private use. Ample open spots to book and use it. The hotel is a 15/20 min walk from Hakone station. In a quiet street. From the rooms you can here the river below. Peaceful feeling.

The hotel is very nicely renovated! You can see in the original communal onsen the structure of the original building and that part is a little outdated. It was very clean and nice but a little below the level of the rest of the hotel.
