IMPORTANT: If the mixed reviews for this ryokan confuse you: Your experience will vary EXTREMELY depending on your chosen room plan, as there are multiple hotels listed here together. Incredible food! (Not for picky eaters though) Incredible service! Close to the station! (and shuttle service available) Onsen! Huge room!

Wifi signal was not available in room RORAN/was too weak for smartphone antennae

It was a beautiful, traditional Japanese style room with traditional kasieki dinner. We were provided pretty much everything we needed including a kimono and sandals. We had our own private outdoor onsen bath and we're served high quality,, chef prepared meals directly in our rooms. The location was next to a river and we had wonderful views ofnthe river and mountains. The service was impeccable and the resort was so quiet, we felt we had the whole place to ourselves. The Shein room was spacious too. It was peaceful and relaxing.

It was definitely hard to get to from the train station. With it being so uphill, I don't recommend walking with any luggage. Just take a cab or get a ride. The hotel did offer a shuttle with reservations at specific times songhat was nice. The food was of excellent quality, plentiful and exactly on time, however it didn't come with a lot of instructions for those of us foreigners who are unfamiliar with thr traditional foods. Also, it was a fixed menu so what they sent I'd what you got, whether you cares for it or not. However there was a lot of food so surely there's enough to eat. Sleeping on the tatami mats looks fun and is worth a try but my back couldn't handle it for more than one night.

This is one one of the best stays I had in my 10 days Japan travel. I regret not staying back longer in Hakone and at Senkei. You will try experience Japan both in the form of nature and your surroundings and the people. The room to location this place was a bliss and totally Japanese home i should say. onsen were amazing , we did not have dinner in the hotel we walked out this is the only challenge most of the restaurants would be closed by 7 or 8, so you need to plan well and better. Room was huge and so amazing, it almost transforms you to Edo period in some way. We had a great time.

Nothing really, they were the most polite and amazing people . So we really enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is absolutely amazing. We were greeted by the nicest man (I didn’t catch his name unfortunately) who gave us a very in-depth, clear explanation of how everything works in the hotel and our room. The hotel itself is located right across from a beautiful river and it’s super close to everything you need. The hotel has everything you need. The open air onsen literally took my breath away. I’ve never experienced such peace and serenity. I don’t know if it was because it’s off season (here in June) but I had the whole bath to myself which was amazing. The room!! We loved everything about it. It was a traditional style room so think low tables, futons (which the staff made up for us in the evening), complimentary tea and the most amazing balcony type thing. We really loved everything about our stay and wish we stayed longer than one night. Highly HIGHLY recommend and we’ll definitely be back here.

The only thing I’d mention is that around 10 a.m. there was a really loud alarm going off across Hakone, followed by some public announcements. Since I’d never been to Hakone before, it honestly freaked me out a bit. I wasn’t sure if it was a volcano or earthquake warning. We asked at reception and they said it was just a routine test, which was a relief! It would’ve been great to know that this could happen while we’re there. It would really help first-time visitors feel more at ease.

Great outdoor onsen - just keep in mind that men and women are separated and can use it at different times. We used it in the evenings (women until 21.00 and men after 21.30) and it was nice. Went there almost alone all the time. Interesting and good experience in japanese style room. Calming river sound from outside. Overall its good value for money.

Breakfast is really not worth it - it was not in the room (as it seemed from orher comments) and it was low quality western style breakfast food. They also suggested eco cleaning which sounded like its just not making tatami beds every day but they didnt even change towels or take trash.

Such a cool place to stay. We loved the traditional Japanese room and the onsen. In particular, the outdoor onsen was really amazing. It was great to have a comfy bathrobe, and the owners provided several free beverages, which was very generous. We also loved the warm welcome from the hotel staff and all the explanations. It was really cute and the older lady was so helpful. It was also great that the hotel provided a free shuttle as on our last day it rained a lot.

We wanted to have a real ryokan experience, so we booked the traditional Japanese room with private onsen + traditional dinner & breakfast. The room was very nice for 3 people, it had a big living room for eating, all tatami floor. The private onsen was amazing, as it also had a pretty nice view of the mountain. The water was very hot too.

The traditional dinner and breakfast is exactly what it says TRADITIONAL. it might not be ideal for everyone. So be sure you know what you are ordering before doing so. If you are looking for the full traditional experience, I definitely recommend it.

Our plans for our visit to Hakone and the nearby hot springs noted for the "black eggs", cooked in a sulfur hot springs was set askew by a snow storm/rain. We were therefore very grateful for the onsens (separate men and women) to warm up after, with waters from hot springs. We didn't have the meal plan reservations so I can't speak to the breakfast & dinner. The room was traditional Japanese, tatami mats, futons, low tables, but there were two "regular" chairs. Another rating mentioned issues with the room being cold, but ours had a modern wall ac/heater with remote and I was able to make it comfortable for my normally cold spouse. All in all a good time, just make sure to check out before 11, as that is when the last shuttle to the train station, about 800 m away, not an issue except it was raining. Not the Ryokan's fault, just two slow seniors. No problem.

Very traditional Japanese style, love the peace and quietness. The outdoor hotspring is really lovely and cute! Male guests need to go after 21.00 but i think that's fine. Staff are friendly but that's almost everywhere in Japan, hahaha.

Because of the fact that it's traditional Japanese style with futon and wooden floor and funitutes, it's cute and special, but the room smell is a bit stiff... And the bed is really hard, so just be prepared if that's what you like. For 1 night shall be fine, but 3 nights might be a bit challenging.

Loved everything about Hotel Senkei in Hakone - we booked the Japanese room ryokan with tatami mats & futon & we felt like we were transported back to the 70s-80s of Japan. Excellent hospitality, super friendly helpful staff, we loved both the rooftop & indoor onsen facilities. Location was great - just 10-15min walk from Hakone station or the hotel provides a shuttle. We felt super relaxed & comfortable at Hotel Senkei - thank you!

A bit dated but that is part of the charm of the ryokan - their natural onsen onsite is what makes it special. We loved it!
