Our stay at Hotel New Grand was unforgettable. The service was outstanding, with plenty of staff who were all helpful, polite, and friendly—always ready to assist with a smile. The location is unbeatable. We splurged a bit for a room with a view, and it was worth every yen. Perched on the 14th floor, our room had large glass windows offering a breathtaking view over the port and Yamashita Park. I could easily spend hours just soaking in the scenery. The room itself had a nostalgic charm, reminiscent of a classic hotel from the ‘90s—a style I absolutely adore. It was cozy and elegant, adding to the overall experience. To our surprise, Yokohama quickly became our favorite city in Japan. This was our first time visiting the country, and we explored Tokyo, Sapporo, Niseko, and Osaka, but Yokohama stood out. The city has a relaxed pace, not as rushed as Tokyo or Osaka, making it the perfect place to unwind. We can’t wait to return to Hotel New Grand and experience this view, comfort, and warm hospitality all over again. Highly recommended!

Loved the location and classic history that the atmosphere lent. Lovely hotel. Good location.

I booked my room and it was for breakfast included. That means all the guests in my opinion. Then at check in we were told our children have to pay. This is wrong and embarrassing. I refused to pay and the hotel did not charge us. Please correct this policy for future guests. Breakfast included should mean everyone. Not just parents. !!

The dining experience in the Cafe was outstanding, the staff, the food, beverages and the presentation.

Dining in the Italian Restaurant, we requested no bell peppers in the roasted vegetables. However, half the small amount of roasted vegetables were bell peppers! The result after pointing this out, remove the dish and bell peppers and return with minimum amount of vegetables. Additionally we requested medium to well done grilled lamb chops. Instead we received rare medium grilled lamb chops. These were taken away and cooked further. After this, we then had dessert in the Cafe. We requested and paid for a late check out. The cleaning staff was not made aware and a loud knocking woke me up from a sound sleep, having experienced a severe headache.

I recently stayed at Hotel New Grand and it was such a special experience. What I loved the most was the historic atmosphere — you can really feel the elegance and charm from another era the moment you walk in. The Main Building especially felt like stepping into a beautiful piece of history, with high ceilings, gorgeous staircases, and breathtaking views of the ocean. The location was perfect too — right across from Yamashita Park, and just a short walk to Chinatown and Motomachi. It made it so easy to explore Yokohama. The service was outstanding. Every staff member I met was kind, professional, and made me feel very welcome. Overall, it wasn't just a hotel stay — it felt like being part of something timeless. I would absolutely love to come back again someday.

When we were there, the Center Park was under renovation, and we didn’t know about it — no one told us. It was supposed to be one of the main highlights of the hotel, so it was a little disappointing. Also, depending on the room, the facilities like bathrooms or elevators might feel a bit dated. The room key is also an old-fashioned physical key instead of a card, so it could be a little inconvenient if you’re going out and need to carry it around with you. But honestly, these were very minor things compared to how beautiful and special the whole stay felt.

Yokohama is a great city, the harbour front gardens are immediately across the road at the front of this historically important building. 200m in the other direction is a subway station, supermarket and the entrance to the vibrant China town. A Perfect location for visits to Kamakura, Hakone, and Tokyo. Rooms in the tower block (the majority of the hotel's rooms) are excellent, European sized and well furnished. There is an option to upgrade from side facing rooms to front or front corner rooms. Highly reccomended for at least one stay! I have previously (at least ten years ago) used this hotel extensively on multiple business vists to Japan. This 2025 trip was all holiday and I was delighted to find the same high level of friendly service. What is new, is a speedy Limosuine coach service to Haneda airport from just at the front of the hotel. Best Y1000 transport deal around!

My stay was too short!

The view was superb especially on our second (1 day) stay. Staff was very courteous and helpful, The room was nice. A trip to Tokyo booked by the concierge of the New Grand Hotel with a very experienced driver (with fluent English) on our final day after returning from the cruise around Japan was fantastic, but at 16,000 Yen per hour expensive.

An 8 hour taxi-trip to Mount Fuji with an English speaking driver booked by the hotel turned out to produce a driver, who was very nice and tried, but his English was translation by speaking into a phone. Mount Fuji was in the clouds (which happens often), but it should have been known in the morning and another trip suggested (with an English speaking driver). We spent 5 hours on a freeway with noise barriers (nothing to see) and no talk possible. The bathroom was not easy, since we dont like stepping into a bath to shower. The coffee machine was a disaster and was eventually replaced. The dining rooms looked great, but the prices were way too high!

We reserved a room with a view of the bay. They gave us the 13 floor, It had a superb view of the gardens and the pier. We came back to Yokohama with a cruise, It is very close to, say 600 más of the pier. The bus stop to Haneda AirPort is right in front of the hotel. 100 mts from Chinatown gate, 200 mts of the the Tower and 500 mts of Motomachi street. It is a Classic beautiful hotel. There is no better location for a person who cruises from Yokohama.

Standard Floor Double Room with Bay View - Tower Building. Room was very spacious with double aspect windows and a great view across the bay watching the sunrise. Very large double bed - wide enough for 3 pillows across. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The concierge filled out the forms for onward luggage forwarding.

The bed was slightly hard for our ideal preference but that's not a complaint. We also showers that are in a wet room rathr than having to step into the bath (but again a very minor point).

It is a historic hotel. General MacArthur stayed at this hotel just after the surrender of Japan. The staff were exceptional. Ito-san at the front reception has my greatest admiration. He helped me through a crisis. I thought my cruise was from Yokohama, hence this hotel. It turned out to be the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal. We were about an hour away. He reassured us that all is fine and booked a taxi for us. We got to the terminal and were able to check in to the cruise. All ended well because of Ito-san.

There isn't much to dislike. The hotel is right across from Yanashita Park, a beautiful place. My only wish is that I could speak more Japanese. It would have elevated my stay experience even more.
