Fabulous place in a superb location, walking distance to the shopping streets and market, but also with easy access to direct trains to Nara and Osaka without having to go to the busy main station. And a nice local feel, as it was far enough away from the busiest parts of the city, but still felt central. Loved everything about staying here, the spa, the sound proof room, how easy everything was, and the nearby area.

I know hotel buffet breakfast is always expensive in Japan, but for the our family it would cost more for breakfast than we paid for a room, so it was never an option. Starbucks is next door, though...

even though we were assigned to a VERY noisy room near the cleaning staff room ( every morning waking up at 6-7 corridor blocked with trash and carts the staff immediately provided with alternative options. albeit not the best solution and we did not sleep well for two nights - the hotel was great.

noisy room to begin with replacement room had a non integral air-conditioner that made a lot of noise. would have expected some reimbursement for the lost two nights

The perfect location, the cool car parking, the luxury inside look, the 4 elevators lobby, the good room, the great staff, the excellent breakfast. We've been to 7 different hotels in Japan and this is the best one (of course, for the price, because we could find a better one if we just add more money...) Don't hesitate, go there

There were small and insignificant things that might improve, but eventually when it's been 4 days since we left Kyoto and we didn't like the fact that we didn't take a better room because it would probably be even better. Annnddd, we would prefer if the onsen would be included in the price and would not cost 2000¥ *per person *per use (like every other hotel we've been to) Annnddd if they would be more up-to-date and would have more vegetarian options in the restaurant.

The room was by far the most spacious that I found in Japan. The beds are really comfortable and the hotel is very classy

The only reason I might not return to the hotel is because the shower head is horrible. The water comes out like a jet setting and mist setting combination and is extremely uncomfortable. Also the way the shower is set up the water will run right off the upper ledge and pretty much floods the floor. Had to have towels lined up every shower to help prevent this. Lastly the water shifts from hot to cold to steaming hot to ice water and cycles through the whole time showering which makes it even more unpleasant. My friends were staying in a different room and they all said the same thing so it wasn't just our shower.

Great location with easy access to the subway and walking distance to Nishiki Market and other must-see spots. The room was a bit small, but the bed was comfy and the amenities were solid. Bonus: the restaurant had a happy hour—yes, please!

Only downside was some noisy guests shouting by the ice machine late at night; staff did handle it, but the rooms aren’t exactly soundproof.

5 minute walk from the bus station, we took the bus to visit most of the attractions. Also close to the subway station to reach the Kyoto station for the Shinkansen train. Room was clean and there was enough space to open two middle size suitcases on the floor. We didn’t visit the chapel or the bar on the ground floor but they looked nice. We could walk from the Gion area and the Pontocho street in 20 minutes to the hotel, very central location. There are markets and a Starbucks close to the hotel.

Windows were locked but it is the same in most hotels. The room had nice air conditioning.

The location is considered very convenient - it is just 3 mins away from the subway station. Very convenient to get food as there're plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The room I was staying for 5 nights was very clean.

The shower is a bit hard to control, as the water will spill over the area. There was an odor in the bathroom whenever the shower was turned on - not sure why. If front desk staff can be trained to understand more basic English, that would be tremendously helpful for guests whenever asking basic questions such as "where to wait for car pick up". The bathroom on the ground floor is closed with the "midnight closure" sign, which I understood, however, it is still closed at 630am in the morning, which there is already a need for hotel guests who are up early for a morning run, or waiting for early airport pick up service.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Monterey Kyoto. The hotel was in a beautiful building, located in a vibrant area. The room was much more spacious than we expected, especially after our experience in Tokyo, and it was new and modern. Most importantly, the bed was large and comfortable. The hotel was within walking distance of two metro stations, several bus stops, and many nice restaurants. Some attractions were close enough to reach on foot.

I cant think of anything. We loved everything about the place.

The location was perfect, allowing us access to sights that are considerably within walking distance. Plus, the Kyoto metro station was very close. The staff was nice and acted promptly to meet our needs. The stay exceeded our expectations and we loved it at Hotel Monterey. We would definitely book another stay when we're in Kyoto next time.

The only disadvantage we faced was the limited number of plug adaptors allocated for room guests. As there were three of us, one plug adaptor was insufficient for all our devices (laptops, handphones, etc.).
