Very quiet room, wonderful staff, very helpful as I do not speak Japanese. Great big shower and comfortable room for family of four.

I've got a tired back and I thought the mattress was too stiff. But to be fair, everyone else was satisfied.

The friendly and accommodating staff was the highlight. The room was not fancy but was comfortable. The beds were very comfy. The room had a washer/dryer which ended up being a huge bonus as we'd gone through so much of our warm weather clothing by the time we arrived in Kyoto. The shower and bath were great. The toilet is in a separate doored area, which is a great detail when traveling with family.

We could have used more counter space in the bathroom, but it is only a small complaint. The location is near several museums but, it turns out, it's not a very exciting area of the city and we found more scenic, friendly and social areas during our exploration.

We stayed in the Nuance room and highly recommend it. The room was spacious like a suite. The room has a combination washer/dryer. The bathroom has a full size bath. The room has two air conditioners to ensure your comfort. I needn't list all the nice things about the room, it was all great.

The staff weren't terribly helpful when I had questions/requests about things in the area. They also didn't have a luggage scale, which is strange for a hotel to not have on hand. The wifi was having issues occasionally too, but didn't bother bringing it up to the staff. Would also be nice if there was a translation for the washer/dryer controls, but google translate helped us manage pretty well. Given that there is a washer, it would be nice if there was also a drying rack of some kind for delicates that can't be dried in the machine.

Hotel very comfortable, well located and with spacious rooms. We had our own washing machine which was very useful. The staff were extremely helpful and did everything possible to make our stay comfortable. One reported gloves lost on a bus, and even went to retrieve them from the bus station for us. No breakfast is served, but that was quite a good thing. Hotel breakfasts often mean a later start to the day and in Kyoto, it's best to be at many sites very early. As we do like to start the day with some food, we just we just made sure to have something in the fridge.

More storage space to unpack suitcases would have been good - but that seems a very common issue for hotels in Japan

Hotel is away from some of the more crowded spots (we stayed in Kyoto late March), but the main spots are still walkable (jump the train to Fushimi Inari though). It was very quiet outside during the night, so we were very happy. There are plenty of nice restaurants and shops (including 7 Eleven) within a short walking distance from the hotel. Room was huge! We couldn’t believe the space we had, especially after arriving from Tokyo. Decor is maybe a bit old-fashioned, if I was being fussy, but again we’d just arrived from Tokyo where our hotel was really modern. Hotel was good value, especially considering we stayed during a busy time of year, and the space we had - would definitely stay here again.

Easily one of the best hotels i have stayed in. There are only good things to say. The location is convenient, within 5mins to train station, convenience stores, Mcdonalds, Starbucks. Walking distance to atttractions like Nijo castle, Nishiki market, Pontocho. The room is excellent. We stayed in the Hawaiian chill and absolutely love it. It was super spacious with a kitchenette, 2 doubled sized beds, a living room area and the best part was the bathroom area. The shower, basin and toilet parts are 3 different separated areas in the same space. So everyone can do what they needed to without waiting for availability. After a long day of touring, this really helps everyone to settle down fast. Room amenities were complete. The check in and check out staff (same lady) spoke perfect English and was super polite. When we checked out, it was drizzling and she offered us to take a few umbrellas along without the worry of returning them. We did not take the umbrellas as we called uber but it was unexpected and amazing service which we really appreciate. She even came out in the rain to help us load our luggages! If we are in Kyoto again, I would definitely choose to stay here!

We (a family of 4) recently stayed at Hotel SHIKISAI in Kyoto and were thoroughly impressed. The hotel features themed rooms, and we experienced the Bali Calm and Nuance (French-themed) rooms. Both were beautifully designed, spacious (especially by Japanese standards!), and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The beds were two King Singles pushed together, which were firm, but still very comfortable. The location is just a 5 minute walk from a station, and about a 15 minute walk to Nishiki Markets. Highly recommended for anyone seeking one of the largest rooms you can find in Kyoto, super friendly staff and a quiet, boutique-like stay.

No full length mirror in the room, apart from a skinny one in the shower. But the bathroom mirror and hand held makeup mirror sufficed :)

Location was great in that we were in the midst of the Gion Matsuri festival activities and just down the street from the parade; a short 5 min walk from the closest train station and many amenities nearby (restaurants, drug store, kombinis etc). Room was very nice and clean. Loved having laundry (all in one washer/dryer) in the bathroom and a mini fridge to keep some snacks and cold drinks. Shower and jacuzzi tub were clean and nice to relax in the tub at the end of a long day. The sitting area was cute and it was nice to have a closet for luggage storage. Staff at the front desk were very kind and spoke english well. It was nice to have umbrellas available to borrow.

For 4 people (using the 2 futons on the floor), the room was a bit small. The air conditioner was blowing air on our heads all night long which was a bit annoying but it was so hot out there was no way we could have lived without it.

Small hotel with kind staff. Very large and comfortable rooms with lots of amenities. The location- tucked into a neighborhood, just a couple of blocks to transportation, sightseeing, dining- was ideal for us. Laundry facilities, kitchenette and fab bathroom made this a standout boutique hotel. We stayed in the Urban room.

Some parts of the rooms are not perfect. I noticed things like dust on lightbulbs or backs of doors and stains/scratches on paint or wall paper in entry ways. Very small things that do not impact functionality but might bother a perfectionist.

Hotel is centrally located. The room is very spacious and had all the amenities one would expect including a nice kitchenette. We stayed in the Hawaiian Chill room for four nights and loved it. This was one of two rooms without a washer/dryer. The reception desk was very helpful and made sure when we were leaving by taxi that our driver knew exactly where we wanted to go.

The only thing missing was a full length mirror but outside that, we had absolutely no complaints.
