It is good value for money and the location is very good

Its hard to put your finger on. I was asked to enter all our details online the day before arrival, scan and download passport to obtain a QR code which I did. It was a total waste or time as on showing the QR code I needed to hand over both passports and go through the whole booking in!! Also this is the only hotel that I have been charged an extra Accommodation tax, all my other hotel have included them.

Very modern, clean, loved the record player and LP in the guest lounge, all day Bread and pastries, coffee and tea, books (travel and novels) games etc. staff were v helpful. V close to metro station and main area and yet v quiet. Very comfy beds. Insomnia is not apt for our stay! Shower was a new novelty, but great!

We liked the fact you could Opt to not have daily cleaning or the bed sheets changed daily, however we didn’t quite master the messaging when we then did want to have the room cleaned . But we did have every day clean towels and if we wanted to we could have asked reception for extras.

This is a great option for staying in Kyoto! We found it a comfortably out of the main hustle, but a super easy walk or train ride to anywhere we wanted to go. Options for food and coffee the surround area (within 10 minute walk) were excellent. We loved the drinks and snacks that were available, and the lobby was comfortable to relax in. Bathroom was great, by any hotel standard, but especially compared to other places we’ve stayed in Japan. Would absolutely stay here again.

Found the beds and pillows here quite firm. Noticed that is just a common preference in Japan, but found this especially so here. Not my personal preference, but I also wouldn’t call it uncomfortable. If you like a firm mattress and pillow then you’ll enjoy this!

Excellent facilities down stairs in the communal area. Snacks, Juice , coffee all free. Rotation on baked food to eat, excellent value for money. Once you workout your location very easy to get to everything.excellent bathroom nice space well planned. Down size the shower head finer head would be better but all in all excellent pressure and jets for your body. Well thought out additions down stairs if you for got toothbrush, brush etc. Excellent staff as well real pleasure staying here.

Would have been nice to have some draws or shelves to put your clothes in. We stayed for 2 weeks so not enough room to put all your clothes. Having said that, got very use to just dressing out of your suitcase. Under bed draws would work as the bed has space underneath.

Providing complimentary drinks, pastries and snacks in the lobby along with games- opportunities to select and play preferred music. It was a nice gathering space but you could also take the food to your room. (Alcohol drinks needed to be purchased but all the other food and drinks were free) The hotel was ecologically conscience. The staff were helpful, efficient and kind. Everything was clean and well organized. We do not speak or read Japanese but the signage plus the way things were layout and organized it was easy to figure things out. The bedrooms had good lighting and the shower was fabulous. The location was also a plus - it was just off main thoroughfare on a quiet street - a couple blocks from a subway stop and also walkable (1pm-3km) to a few of the popular sites you might want to visit

The rooms are small (as others have mentioned). I was the only one in my room (2 twin beds) so it was fine with me but I could see how it might not work so well with 2 people and 2 large suitcases. I think there were other rooms that were larger but I only needed a small room

Where to start! This was one of the best hotels we have stayed in Japan. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. They helped to receive luggge and packages, and helped us send our luggages to the following hotel. The rooms were more spacious than the usual modern hotels in Japan, and decorated immaculately. The continuous flow of baked goods, drinks at the cozy lobby made me feel like having a big living room where I could spend hours to chill after a long day of walking. We also made use of their free bike rental. It is a such great concept! I also used the laundry on the ground floor. Definitely considering staying here next time I'm in Kyoto!

I absolutely loved everything about our stay! The price was incredible for the room we received—it felt like such great value. The staff were friendly and the service was outstanding. We were pleasantly surprised by thoughtful touches throughout our stay, especially the 24/7 complimentary pastry and drinks station available to all guests. Compared to many other hotel rooms in Japan, ours was huge—spacious and comfortable in every way. And the location? Absolutely perfect. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting!

i don't have any negatives about this stay i loved it a lot.

Besides the size of the room (small, but on par with Japan standards) and the pillows (not my personal preference of comfort) this hotel was great! A+ location to a metro station (less than 5 min walk), right around the corner from a 7/11, and close enough of a walk to some eateries, shops, museums, etc. The staff was very welcoming and they really did an excellent job at having a lounge area on the first floor. Also the room had EXCELLENT blackout curtains so you could sleep without outside light creeping in.

Pillows were a bit uncomfortable for my standards, and I wish the room had a bit more space to put luggage (we had no closet or anything in our room). However, still a good room with good facilities.

Our stay at Insomnia Kyoto Oike was a wonderful experience. We would 100% stay here again if we came back! We had a room with two single beds, and felt that it was plenty spacious compared to other hotels in the area (though still small as is custom in Japan). There was a place to hang some clothes, and enough room for our duffle bags in the hallway or they also fit underneath the beds. We loved the location, it was very central to many of the sights in Kyoto, and within walking distance to a subway station which connected us to the sights all over the city. We really appreciated the free sweet breads and drinks available 24/7 in the lobby -- very refreshing and delicious. The shower and bath were extra welcome after a long day walking around exploring the city. The staff was helpful, and spoke English well. There was a convenience store right around the corner. Overall we had a lovely time and would recommend this place to others visiting Kyoto.

The beds are stiff, but I've found that true anywhere in Japan.

Excellent location with good transport to all parts of city. Lovely cool lounge with vinyl record player as background vibe, free bread and pastries, coffee and tea. Bedroom a reasonable size, very well equipped, modern and clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Iron and ironing board available on request. Comfortable bed, pillows and good shower.

Perhaps needed another mirror - maybe in the toilet room. I asked staff to phone a restaurant to make a restaurant booking for us in Tokyo as we were traveling there the next day but they said they could only phone places in Kyoto - even though I was offering the use of my mobile phone - this seemed a little strange given how helpful they’d been otherwise. No cupboard in the room, just a few coat hooks with hangers on the wall.
