It is good value for money and the location is very good

Its hard to put your finger on. I was asked to enter all our details online the day before arrival, scan and download passport to obtain a QR code which I did. It was a total waste or time as on showing the QR code I needed to hand over both passports and go through the whole booking in!! Also this is the only hotel that I have been charged an extra Accommodation tax, all my other hotel have included them.

This is a great option for staying in Kyoto! We found it a comfortably out of the main hustle, but a super easy walk or train ride to anywhere we wanted to go. Options for food and coffee the surround area (within 10 minute walk) were excellent. We loved the drinks and snacks that were available, and the lobby was comfortable to relax in. Bathroom was great, by any hotel standard, but especially compared to other places we’ve stayed in Japan. Would absolutely stay here again.

Found the beds and pillows here quite firm. Noticed that is just a common preference in Japan, but found this especially so here. Not my personal preference, but I also wouldn’t call it uncomfortable. If you like a firm mattress and pillow then you’ll enjoy this!

Excellent facilities down stairs in the communal area. Snacks, Juice , coffee all free. Rotation on baked food to eat, excellent value for money. Once you workout your location very easy to get to everything.excellent bathroom nice space well planned. Down size the shower head finer head would be better but all in all excellent pressure and jets for your body. Well thought out additions down stairs if you for got toothbrush, brush etc. Excellent staff as well real pleasure staying here.

Would have been nice to have some draws or shelves to put your clothes in. We stayed for 2 weeks so not enough room to put all your clothes. Having said that, got very use to just dressing out of your suitcase. Under bed draws would work as the bed has space underneath.

Our stay at Insomnia Kyoto Oike was a wonderful experience. We would 100% stay here again if we came back! We had a room with two single beds, and felt that it was plenty spacious compared to other hotels in the area (though still small as is custom in Japan). There was a place to hang some clothes, and enough room for our duffle bags in the hallway or they also fit underneath the beds. We loved the location, it was very central to many of the sights in Kyoto, and within walking distance to a subway station which connected us to the sights all over the city. We really appreciated the free sweet breads and drinks available 24/7 in the lobby -- very refreshing and delicious. The shower and bath were extra welcome after a long day walking around exploring the city. The staff was helpful, and spoke English well. There was a convenience store right around the corner. Overall we had a lovely time and would recommend this place to others visiting Kyoto.

The beds are stiff, but I've found that true anywhere in Japan.

Excellent location with good transport to all parts of city. Lovely cool lounge with vinyl record player as background vibe, free bread and pastries, coffee and tea. Bedroom a reasonable size, very well equipped, modern and clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Iron and ironing board available on request. Comfortable bed, pillows and good shower.

Perhaps needed another mirror - maybe in the toilet room. I asked staff to phone a restaurant to make a restaurant booking for us in Tokyo as we were traveling there the next day but they said they could only phone places in Kyoto - even though I was offering the use of my mobile phone - this seemed a little strange given how helpful they’d been otherwise. No cupboard in the room, just a few coat hooks with hangers on the wall.

One of the best hotels we have stayed at. The room was spacious and modern, the shower was more than expected from a hotel room. The facilities that the hotel provide with the free bread, cold and hot drinks in the lobby 24/7 is something that sets them aside from other hotels. The staff were exceptional and kind and went out of their way to help us with luggage forwarding ensuring it would get to our next place that day. The location was less than 200m from the train station and easily walkable to the shops, convenience stores and food courts. I will be staying here for future visits and highly recommend it to anyone

We were pleased with the refreshments bar in the lounge, which had good coffee, drinks and fresh bakery products on hand all day. The reception staff were most helpful with information and taxis, the housekeeping staff thorough. Our room was compact, in the Japanese way, but had a window that opened for fresh air, the beds were the most comfortable, great shower and best of all, there was a sofa in the room for quiet reading and reflecting on our stay. The location was surprisingly handy, within walking distance of Nijo Castle and the Imperial Palace, and the MRT. Kyoto is very accessible by public transport, so having an MRT station at the intersection of two metro lines just around the corner was a real benefit. Highly recommend insomnia KYOTO OIKE

Well, the croissants kept running out at the refreshment bar in the morning! They were good! There was only green tea available in the room - some black tea with whitener would have been appreciated.

Great location, surrounded by a variety of small, niche restaurants/ establishments. The staff were very helpful and one made a great recommendation for a good, well priced Yakiniku restaurant only streets away. The music selection in the lobby was fun, plenty of great albums from the past we hadn't head in a long time. It was good to be able to have a small continental breakfast before heading out and drinks in the afternoon. The bathroom and room size were also good. It's like having a private onsen, although the bath tub was small, we used mineral salts ( buy them from the chemist) to help our sore muscles recover each day.

Pillows but few hotels have good pillows. Better options for breakfast would have been nice.

I loved this hotel so much! The room is small, as normal in most Japanese hotels, but space is well used. Our room had a nice big window with a kind of sofa next to it which was a lovely space to relax in. The window had a nice view. The bed was comfortable and had space underneath to store luggage. Great bathroom with a shower and tub (Japanese style - ie. You shower outside the tub and then relax in the hot tub). It is worth noting that there is no breakfast service, but they offer juice, coffee and a selection of bread and pastries. For us, this was perfect - we bought some extras from the local convience store to add to what the hotel offered and it was a perfect breakfast. The location is awesome - super central but a quiet area, too. One the best hotels I have ever stayed in: comfortable, stylish, and with great attention to detail.

It was perfect. No negatives at all.

We arrived by train at Kyoto station and then it was very easy to reach the hotel by the underground. It's a very modern hotel and the reception is also the lounge area. It's got a cool vibe and you can play records on the sound system and there are complimentary pastries and coffee (we recommend the matcha bread with candied yuzu. The room was large for Japan and very comfortable. The shower was an engineering wonder and had more water jets than I've experienced before. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location and it's an easy and pleasant walk to the covered market and the river. The underground is very close and it's a great base for exploring the whole of Kyoto.
