It is good value for money and the location is very good

Its hard to put your finger on. I was asked to enter all our details online the day before arrival, scan and download passport to obtain a QR code which I did. It was a total waste or time as on showing the QR code I needed to hand over both passports and go through the whole booking in!! Also this is the only hotel that I have been charged an extra Accommodation tax, all my other hotel have included them.

This is a great option for staying in Kyoto! We found it a comfortably out of the main hustle, but a super easy walk or train ride to anywhere we wanted to go. Options for food and coffee the surround area (within 10 minute walk) were excellent. We loved the drinks and snacks that were available, and the lobby was comfortable to relax in. Bathroom was great, by any hotel standard, but especially compared to other places we’ve stayed in Japan. Would absolutely stay here again.

Found the beds and pillows here quite firm. Noticed that is just a common preference in Japan, but found this especially so here. Not my personal preference, but I also wouldn’t call it uncomfortable. If you like a firm mattress and pillow then you’ll enjoy this!

We were pleased with the refreshments bar in the lounge, which had good coffee, drinks and fresh bakery products on hand all day. The reception staff were most helpful with information and taxis, the housekeeping staff thorough. Our room was compact, in the Japanese way, but had a window that opened for fresh air, the beds were the most comfortable, great shower and best of all, there was a sofa in the room for quiet reading and reflecting on our stay. The location was surprisingly handy, within walking distance of Nijo Castle and the Imperial Palace, and the MRT. Kyoto is very accessible by public transport, so having an MRT station at the intersection of two metro lines just around the corner was a real benefit. Highly recommend insomnia KYOTO OIKE

Well, the croissants kept running out at the refreshment bar in the morning! They were good! There was only green tea available in the room - some black tea with whitener would have been appreciated.

The free bread/pastries and drinks in the morning was the highlight of our stay. There was a wide range that would be restocked often so everyone has a chance to get something, and it was all yummy too. The room was really nice too and the blackout blinds were nice. Our stay was super affordable compared to our other stays and the free food made it well worth the price

The only thing I want to mention is the location is a little far to walk to the main market area in kyoto, but this may not bother some people

Absolutely loved this hotel! Excellent room design and they thought of everything to make their guests feel at home. The 24 hour snack and drinks area were well utilized by us for the 6 nights. Great place to sit for a bit and relax after a trip to the 7ELEVEn around the corner. There was construction across the street and you could barely hear anything in the room. Location was perfect as it was away from the hustle and bustle. Only a 15 mins walk to Nishiki Market. The front desk staff were so pleasant and helpful with arranging the luggage transfer to our next hotel.

The location is great, close to the subway, and a lot of Kyoto attractions. It is located in a quiet street, so no noise bothers you. The rooms seem almost brand new, and I really loved the bathroom options - shower and a bath. Staff was very helpful

The beds are pretty hard and, surprisingly, even the pillows. Come mentally prepared if that's not your jam.

We stayed at Insomnia Kyoto Oike for six nights, and it was the most pampering, comfortable, cozy, and friendly-designed hotel I’ve stayed at in Japan – and possibly anywhere. The hotel is perfectly located, just a short walk from the train station and about a 20-minute walk to Nishiki Market. The hotel offers everything you could need to make your stay pleasant and welcoming. The rooms are clean, spacious, and beautifully designed, with a fantastic bathroom and all the amenities you could ask for. The lobby features a cozy social lounge with light refreshments available 24/7, including a wide selection of hot and cold drinks, and even a beer/wine machine for only 500 yen per glass. Additional thoughtful features include a washing machine and dryer, a coin exchange machine, bicycles for guest use, refillable water bottles, and more. Everything is designed with the guest’s comfort in mind – simply amazing! When I return to Kyoto, this will undoubtedly be the hotel I choose, without hesitation.

The only downside was that the mattress and pillows were a bit firm to my taste.

Great location near the subway station makes exploring Kyoto a breeze. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are well-appointed and comfortable, featuring cozy beds and a thoughtful layout. The 24-hour access to pastries and hot drinks in the lounge is a nice touch especially with teenagers in tow! While some guests have mentioned mixed experiences with housekeeping, our room was clean and well-maintained throughout our stay. Insomnia Kyoto Oike is a great choice for travelers seeking a contemporary and convenient base to explore Kyoto. We really enjoyed our stay here & would highly recommend.

It’s a small thing but there’s only one washing machine & dryer and the dryer didn’t really dry!

Great place to stay in Kyoto. Very well located with the subway a few minutes walk away and easy to get around kyoto. The hotel itself is clean, comfortable and the staff were excellent trying to find places to eat for us that would suit both the meat eaters in our party and the vegetarians (no easy task in a country that doesn't really cater well for vegetarians) and then securing reservations. We also loved the free pastries and drinks throughout the day, which were replenished regularly. Overall a fantastic stay and good value.

Pillows were very firm but the hotel provided softer ones on asking.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The check-in and check-out process was very easy. The common area was spacious and provided comfortable seating. The hotel was only a 3 minute walk to the metro! We were either able to easily access the metro or walk to different destinations. Our room was very comfortable and spacious for 2 travelers! I would highly recommend booking your stay at insomnia Kyoto Oike!

I would not suggest washing your clothes while staying at this hotel. There was one washer and dryer (not complimentary). It took 9 hours to dry 3 loads of clothes.
