The breakfast and dinners were superb cooked over charcoal in front of us at the table. A welcome treat and japanese tea were served to us on arrival while the staff took our luggage to our room. The room itself was luxurious and had everything we needed. The staff were attentive to all our needs and helpful with booking taxis and anything extra we requested including room service with coffees/teas etc. Several times throughout the stay we were given additional treats which was a lovely touch. The staff really couldn't do more for us. Fantastic. Location is a short walk from a metro/underground station through the narrow Kyoto streets, a short ride to Kyoto central. Other restaurants are available locally which were delicious.

My stay in Kyoto was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the heart of the city, my accommodation at Nazuna Kyoto Nijo-jo offered a peaceful escape with a perfect blend of traditional charm and modern comfort. Beautiful ryokan with spacious, clean, and comfortable rooms with private onsen. It was a relaxing, cozy place to return to after a long day of sightseeing. Traditional Japanese breakfast was delicious, with generous portions. Staff was very hospitable and accommodating, and made every effort to make it a wonderful stay. Location was an easy 10-min walk to the subway station.

Our suite was up a narrow flight of stairs, which was not an issue for us but may be for others with mobility challenges. There were some slight language miscommunications, but no major issues.

If you’re looking to unwind and relax this is the place. Serene, gorgeous and one of a kind. The private onsen in our room was well loved and well used. Every room has abundant complimentary snacks and drinks, including a late night snack. There are massage therapists who can come to your room by request. I could not be happier with our stay. The point was rest and relaxation, so we stayed in the whole day/evening and did just that and It was worth the cost. Breakfast was amazing and no one else was there so it’s like having a private chef.

My wife and i stayed here in the first leg of our honeymoon. They were extremely accommodating and hospitable. Rooms were very clean, with great selection of complementary drinks and local snacks. In addition to that, they did an amazing job giving me the option of planning a surprise for my wife , with room decorations, champagne and a strawberry short cake. Breakfast was nothing short of outstanding with one of the hostess cooking and taking care of your every need. Nazuna supports luggage forwarding services and are happy to contact your next location and organize it for you, making moving around during your travels a breeze Its just a shame that 5 stars in the best rating i can give. And you can be sure that i will be back the next time i visit kyoto.

I have stayed in many hotels during my journey, I've been to 3 and 4-star ryokans in Shikoku and to a couple overpriced western-style hotels such as Mandarin in Tokyo, and this hotel was one of the best of my trip. Staff was very nice and helpful, they were offering lots of services like free coffee and tea to the room and evening japanese meal. When we declined coming down for the breakfast since one of us didn't feel well, they have come with the breakfast to the room. We declined it anyways, but it was nice of them. The room looked stylish and felt cozy. We stayed in this hotel just for one night, our last night in Japan. I wanted to show my mother a japanese-style hotel and this hotel turned out to be an excellent choice. We both really enjoyed our stay.

This property is in a quiet local neighbourhood ~15 mins walk from the centre. The staff were lovely, and really went the extra mile to make our stay special. The room was comfortable and the breakfasts were expectionally good.

Unfortunately it wasn't mentioned in the listing that the bedroom is located upstairs via a small staircase. My husband has a knee injury, so had to sleep on a mattress in the lounge for our 5 day stay, which was really disappointing. The layout was slightly unusual (the bedroom and outdoor seating are is accessed via the bathroom area). Although we enjoyed our stay, we felt the room was overpriced.

We stayed here on the last day of our Kyoto trip, and it was a perfect accommodation to relieve the tiredness accumulated over the three days. The staff prepared everything we needed and guided us friendly. The rooms were very clean, cozy and amazing. Dinner and breakfast also gave us the perfect time thanks to the staff's careful guidance and the combination of fresh and flavorful ingredients. Even on the morning of our departure, the staff came out outside the hotel to see us off and gave us the best experience until the end. Next time I will come to Kyoto again, I will definitely stay here again. And I would definitely recommend this place to people around me.

Our room was a sanctuary of comfort, where traditional elements like tatami flooring met with modern amenities. Everything was spotless, and the climate control system ensured that the room was always at a comfortable temperature. To top it off, we booked in-room massages that exceeded our expectations in terms of skill and relaxation. Dining was another high point of our stay. The kaiseki dinner, with its fresh ingredients and expertly crafted dishes, turned each meal into a memorable event. From one course to the next, we were treated to a culinary journey that left a lasting impression. The location of Nazuna Kyoto Nijo-jo was convenient for exploring local attractions, such as the nearby Nijo Castle. The absence of a natural onsen was offset by the availability of a well-maintained hot tub, which, while not traditional, still provided a soothing experience. In summary, our stay at Nazuna Kyoto Nijo-jo was enriching and comfortable, masterfully combining traditional Japanese elements with modern luxuries. We left the ryokan feeling relaxed and well-cared for, making it a place we'd highly recommend for anyone wanting to experience Kyoto in a unique and luxurious setting. We can't wait to return for another memorable stay.

I'm struggling to come up with things that could be improved. I would have loved it if the ryokan offered to book other excursions or tours. If that was an option, I don't think we were made aware of that.

I don't typically write reviews, but in certain cases an exception must be made, and this was one of those cases. Our experience at the Nazuna Ryokan was phenomenal from start to finish. The entire process was a case study in consideration and service for guests. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, the meals were delicious and well presented. The room we stayed in (Hojicha?), was immaculate and spacious. Already thinking of the return trip based on our overall experience this time.
