Comfortable, relaxed base near Nijo Castle We stayed at Stay SAKURA (Nijo area) and had a very pleasant stay. The place isn’t fancy, but the rooms are a good size for Kyoto and everything felt functional and comfortable - a solid choice if you want more space than a tiny hotel room. The in-room kitchen is especially handy and well-equipped for light cooking, which made the stay feel more like a little apartment than a hotel. Check-in was simple and the building is in a quiet residential area about a short walk from Nijo Castle and local subway stations, which is convenient for sightseeing. If you want a peaceful base to relax between walks and temple visits, this is ideal.

One important note: it’s very quiet in the neighborhood after about 8 PM, so you’ll need to keep your voice down even out on the street. That makes the place excellent for relaxing and sleeping well, but if you’re looking to go out late or want nightlife right on your doorstep, this location may feel too sleepy for you.

We were able to drop off our bags at the Stay Sakura guest center near Kyoto station and the bags were already in our room when we checked in later in the evening. This gave us some time to explore areas nearby the station. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Spacious and clean room with good facilities. Beds were clean and comfortable. Location is walkable distance to Nijo Castle (10m) and nearby places. Just 1 minute walk from the stay there is a cycle hire place which is the most convenient way to explore Kyoto with kids.

Please keep a tea towel or clothe to wipe kitchen bech after use.

This hotel is tucked away in a more residential side of Kyoto, but still so conveniently located, with Nishiki Market being 15-20 min walk away, Gion a short bus or a leisurely walk away, Kyoto Imperial Palace and its gardens are also under 30 min walk away. The apartment was huge, with a long walkway, fully functioning kitchenette, bathroom and wet room, and the bonuses of a washing machine which was very welcome to us. We also had a very small balcony but was more to let in air than anything else. We had 2 separate large single beds, pushed together, but it meant that we got to space out - which was another bonus given the average temps outside were 35 celsius each day. The beds were comfy and we were able to really space ourselves out and be comfortable in this apartment. The staff were friendly and there was no noise from within the hotel, neither were there outside noises from neighbouring private apartments, it was a very quiet experience.

The air conditioning was unfortunately nowhere near powerful enough to keep us and the room cold in the extreme heat. For the size of the apartment, the unit just did not produce any real cold air, no matter how much we fiddled with the controls to get it angled onto us, we could never really feel it. So the room as a result was very muggy, which was not ideal. There should be an additional plug in unit to give it a boost. We have no issues with anything else otherwise, we would happily stay there again, maybe in the colder months!

This hotel is located between the subway stations and the historic Nijo Rikyu which is very convenient. The room is spacious and provides all the necessities (washing machine, kettle, cooking utensils, microwave oven etc) making you feel like home. We particularly like the drying system in the washroom which made the laundry dry overnight. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. There is even a service centre near the Kyoto station providing the luggage delivery service (but the lady there was a bit cold). Overall the room is very impressive and we could not ask for more with such a reasonable price. Highly recommended for those who are going to travel in Kyoto! 👍🏻

Bath tube and microwave oven need a better cleaning

For the four days we stayed, it was the ideal room arrangements for my family of three. The beds were comfortable. It was easy to operate the thermostat and the washing machine. The apartment was furnished amply for simple cooking and laundry. The washing machine could only wash (no drying feature) but we hung clothes on the racks provided. Bathroom and kitchen were cleaned very well. It was located in a quiet neighborhood and there were a variety of restaurants within walking distance. The nearest train station was a 15-minute walk.

Loved this hotel. Small room but it had everything you needed and more. It even had a washing machine which came in super handy. They also provided laundry detergent. We walked everywhere from this location. Cute sake bar just around the corner and lots of great restaurants.

On the website it gave us the hotel name but on the email confirmation we received said to go to Stay Sakura main office. We had to drive to and from main office which is not a huge problem as we had a car, but I can imagine if this happened and we were on public.

Nice, queit location, near subway station, 15 min away from Kyoto station by subway. The staff was friendly and room was clean. We sent our luggage from the previous hotel and it waited for us in the room when we arrived.

The reception does not work all day so it is sometimes difficult to ask for something (for instance we wanted to transfer our luggage to the next hotel but could not catch the reception staff in the morning and had to arrange it ourself). There is no smoking area, neither in the hotel or somewhere next to it. Since smoking areas are difficult to find in Kyoto, this presented a problem and I wouldn't recommend the hotel to smokers.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel in a quiet residential area, quite close to a station and the Imperial Palace gardens. Had all the amenities we needed. Compact but fit beds for 3 people, a small kitchenette and washing machine. Good powerful shower, clean, plenty of towels provided. Friendly and helpful staff.

Beds were very comfortable but pillows a little too firm for us

Cute building, spacious apartment with excellent appliances, Japanese style clothes drying function in the bathroom, comfy beds. Close to metro and bus stops as well as eating options but outside of the centre of Kyoto so far from the crowds if you want something quieter and more normal.

Nice and clean small apartment. There was not much to hate, apart from non-stop cycle of venting and heating the room (February). Apart from that, everything was top notch!

Location was a bit further away from metro line, but bus did the job most of the time. Also Taxis were reasonably priced when commuting to-from station which was a nice bonus
