The location was fantastic, close to two different tube lines, many restaurants and bars, but set back from the road so that noise wasn't an issue. Staff were friendly, and it was good to have an area downstairs where you can relax if you needed to check out but stay in the area for a while. Room was clean and tidy. Enjoyed the choice of different free teas in the lobby.

The breakfast really wasn't good, you had to order from a set amount of options (mainly different risottos), and even though we had paid we ended up going out for breakfast some days. They only had disposable coffee/tea cups even if you were drinking the beverage in the hotel, I would have preferred to keep my waste to a minimum. Room was a little small but we were expecting this.

My stay at OMO5 Kyoto Sanjo by Hoshino Resorts was absolutely fantastic! The hotel’s excellent location puts you right in the vibrant Sanjo area, surrounded by charming cafes, local shops, and Kyoto’s famous nightlife—yet it remains peaceful and comfortable. The modern, stylish design and thoughtful amenities made my stay seamless, and the friendly staff added a welcoming touch. Whether exploring Gion, Pontocho, or hopping on the subway (just steps away), this hotel is the perfect base for discovering Kyoto. Highly recommended for travelers who want a trendy, well-located stay with great service. Will definitely return!

The hotel is located in the downtown area with many shops and restaurants nearby. It is also close to bus stops and the subway. The staff is friendly and helpful and the interior looks new. It is also great that the room is slightly bigger than the standard business hotel and there is a desk for you to work.

The sound insulation could be improved. Also, it seems that the air conditioner is controlled by the central system and one is unable to freely change between the air conditioning and heating mode. During my stay, there were a few days with sharp temperature differences between the daytime and evening. It was unfortunate that I could not find the way to turn on the heating mode at night.

Perfect location in the area of Kyoto that we like the most. Nice room, very comfy pyjamas, nice bathroom. Close to the beautiful river with paths on each side that are perfect for jogging and strolling, and for just relaxing. The hotel even aranges two free guided tours, one related to shopping, the other to the area where the hotel is located. We missed them this time, but will not next time! Very close to our favourite Ueshima coffee, our regular breakfast place both last time and this 😃

Nothing to not like!

Sanjo is a great location and the hotel in a great spot. Subway and buses very close by. Taxi rank outside. So it was so easy to get to Kyotos sights. The river is a very short walk. Many restaurants and stores. Try the British pub on the canal before the river. The bakery next to the hotel had great treats. Rooms were a good size and comfortable bed.

Our room was hot (while a friend’s on another floor was fine) air con is controlled centrally so had to open window to cool the room down.

Perfect location, service was excellent, room was incredibly comfortable and such good value for money. So close to everything and the daily cleaning of rubbish is great. Pajamas were super comfy and air conditioning was amazing.

It was a bit small so couldn’t open suitcases easily but given the other features, this is a non-issue.

Amazing location, transit lines nearby got us everywhere we wanted to go and tons of food and shopping options when we returned to the area. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and towels were replaced daily which was fantastic. The room was tight for our suitcases but they fit under the beds so it was easy to slide them away when we weren't using them. We loved the map and samples in the lobby that showcased local businesses. It was the perfect hotel for our trip to Kyoto.

The receptionists had some conflicting information on when to bring our bags down to ship them. Through some confusion and my insisting we did get them shipped and they arrived with no hiccups but it definitely seemed like something that I wish the staff had clearer resources for.

This is a no-frills hotel, there's just a kettle and some melamine cups, no teaspoon. Bathroom is well designed, separate from the sink which is in the passageway. Nice wooden floor and comfy beds. Towels are thin but are changed everyday. No drawers but you can live out of your luggage by pushing them under the beds thus saving space. 16 sq. meters can be a tight squeeze. The room price was tripled as we booked at peak season (sakura). Normal rate would justify the no-frills aspect. Location is good as near Loft and Bal Department store. Located within walking distance to the Kamo river. The entrance is clean and welcoming.

I would've liked the room to be bigger but that wouldn't justify the low price under normal circumstances.

Staff - Haruma and the team are excellent - very kind, helpful and polite. Haruma gave me tips on where I can see the cherry blossom, she helped me with suggesting all the routes for my trips and how to go about doing it all by myself. I cancelled my driver and I did exactly as she told me to and saw Kyoto at a fraction of the price I was going to pay the driver - a big thank you to her. She even arranged some bubble wrap and masking tape to carry my wooden umbrellas safely. She booked us taxi's to the Kansai Airport - she is a Star *. Location - Perfect place to stay - everything was close by.

The rooms were small but you are in Japan so can't complain.

We didn't have the breakfast there as we were out exploring most of the day - although the food looked great and the reception/restaurant area was lovely. The location was fantastic - couldn't have been a better place to base ourselves, right next to the market. The bed was so comfortable, the room was spacious. It was the only accomodation that we stayed in that had a proper tiled bathroom, rather than the plastic carbon copy insert all the others had (not that there's an issue with them, they're ingenious - but it was nice to have a change and a bit more space). The staff were so helpful, friendly and accomodating.

I honestly can't think of a negative thing to say. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
