Everything was amazing. Staff was helpful in many occasions - we had a lost luggage shipped with nothing but my name, they received it and made sure we got it. Needed coin exchange for the laundry - done within a second. While I personally tried to speak Japanese as much as I can to practice, I got an understanding that their English language skills are exceptional, considering how non-english speaking Japan is. Breakfast was terrific, not a boring day - add their Oriental Club membership (free) that allows you to rent a bike free of charge and get a late check out at no additional charge - you got an amazing stay at your hands. And the price + location and all else mentioned is crazy good value.

One of the beds was a bit too hard for my liking.

This hotel's location was about a 15 minute walk from the Kyoto train station and it was very accessible via several bus lines. We enjoyed the Japanese breakfast each morning and the atrium with the garden was a beautiful background for our meals. We also borrowed the electric bicycles one evening to get around Kyoto. That was super fun and easy to use. The hotel staff is very friendly and spoke English well. They offer daily refreshments in the evening in the shared area --- a huge bottle of sake, a variety of teas, coffee, and small candies.

Our only complaint was that the carpet in the rooms felt a bit grungy and dirty although they didn't look dirty. Luckily house slippers were provided so we made sure to wear those all the time.

It was well located. They had a nice lounge where you can wait if you arrive before check-in time. The room is a bit small but standard for Japanese hotels. We had a really nice view on the neighbourhood and the Kyoto tower. Netflix was available.

The TV in the room was awkwardly placed. Their laundry machines are not well maintained and dirty, they also dry very poorly. We had to redo the whole wash in a launderette nearby opened 24h. We wished they had coffee in the room, or available downstairs. We eat later and the coffee machine is reserved in the morning for breakfast people only even though it’s right at the entrance, and available only for everyone by 2:30pm. It would have been nice to have a cold water bottle refiller to avoid using plastic bottles. Their tap water in the bathroom is a sensor activated type so we couldn’t refill our bottles.

In a great location, quiet street and near the centre. Friendly staff, and clean & comfortable room. Thanks for the stay!

Only some very small complaints - wish there was a gym, and although I appreciate the free coffee and snacks in the lobby, I wish there was a place (sofa or relax area) that I could use to sit and relax without having to sit at the restaurant tables. Very minor issue and not a deal breaker at all :)

One can walk from the main station (20 mins). There’s a laundry room.

At first we were given the wrong room. However, they gave us the correct one after we pointed it out. We wanted to send the luggage to our next location which is a very common thing to do in Japan. In the other hotel we’re we did this it took less then 5 mins. We asked the staff in the evening before we left to help us fill out the form. They told us they’ll do for us and we can come the next morning and just drop off the luggage with them. In the morning when we came, it took them ages to complete the process, they acted very confused and as if they are doing this for the first time. What we expected to take 2 mins took about 20 mins such that we missed our train.

Very nice hotel, great value. Great location - 15 mins walking to Kyoto Station, close to many temples etc. Nice breakfast (Japanese and European style, good choice), tea and coffee during the whole day, nice common area dowstairs. Laundry machines available. Room was quite big (as compared to typical room sizes in Japan).

Windows in the room were sealed poorly.

It is a very clean and great looking hotel with good and modern amenities. The staff are very nice and usually can speak enough English if needed. The neighborhood the hotel is in is very nice, but I would mostly recommend it to people who enjoy walking.

Discrepancy between information on booking.com and reality? According to the staff the room I had booked had no bathroom, despite it being listed as one of the amenities on booking.com. The room was changed free of charge to one which did however. Wifi at times did not work too well.

We loved the Oriental, the staff were very helpful and friendly. The welcome snacks and drink were cute, we had a buffet breakfast too - great variety with local foods. We used the e-bike hire (free if you join Oriental Hotel Club!!). We also enjoyed working from the seating area with a view into the little zen garden.

We had a Japanese style bed, we usually enjoy the futons, but these separated into three parts so it was difficult to keep them in place over night.

I would highly recommend this hotel, the entry ambience is serene and stylish. The room was also stylish and even though there was 3 of us in the room it wasn't too tight for Japanese standards. It was in a really quiet and peaceful location about a 15-20 minute walk into the main city of Kyoto. There was a supermarket about 10 minutes in the other direction and a Lawson Mini Mart about 5 minutes away. A taxi back to this hotel from wherever we ended up about was only about $8-12 AUD. I was travelling with my Mom so sometimes she would like to return to the hotel before I did. The highlight was the afternoon complimentary snacks, Saki, cold drinks and soup.

New and clean facilities, spacious room, delicious breakfast with enough variety of dishes - western and Japanese style. Lobby with welcome and free drinks is a pleasant plus. Check-in style is unusual, but very convenient.

Japanese style room has awful bed - it’s not Japanese mattress, futon, but matress consisting of three parts. Very uncomfortable and disappointing. I had to move them together several times in order not to lie in a hole….
