The staff were helpful and saved me from disaster. They had a record of a smoking room being booked, which disturbed me immensely. On my first day out they had me in mind and when I returned had reallocated a usable room to me when I returned without needing to be chased. On top of that there is of course the exceptional friendliness, even when working from breakfast at 7am through to spotting me coming back 11 hours later at almost 6pm. Noda needs a holiday. I normally like to use the facilities I've booked without troubling, or being troubled by, staff, but it made a massive difference to be able to rely on their helpfulness. Also, the breakfast and free drinks were great and the usual facilities such as bed and shower were all good. The location is brilliant.

I hated the smoking room for the first night before staff were able to reassign me a decent room. I retched into the loo and barely slept at all. The smell is truly revolting. Be very careful when booking!

Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Onsen was shared at different times but is one gender at a time. Ladies complimentary spa products great quality. Free Japanese alcohol evenings. AC can be controlled in room which is rare in Japan but appreciated. Japanese breakfast small buffet daily. Good quilt. Pillow selection good idea but 1 selection per person only. Excellent location you’re right amongst the shopping strip & restaurants so good access to buses. A $15-$2o taxi trip to Kyoto station

Minimal vegetarian breakfast offerings & scrambled eggs tasted like powder so unsure what they were. I chose to eat out as it wasn’t to my liking.

A perfect base for our 5-night stay exploring Kyoto! The location is excellent, tucked away just behind Shijo / Kawaramachi, just a few steps from the south end of Teramachi and Shimkyogoku — ideal for shopping and nightlife but didn’t feel noisy or busy at all, almost next to the river, with Keihan and Hankyu train lines as well as several Kyoto city bus routes close by. Staff were super lovely, especially the receptionist who checked us in. There’s a bathhouse on the main reception floor — great for experiencing Japanese bath culture, with everything very clearly explained for those who might not have been to a sento before; session times alternate between men and women so check the schedule. The breakfast was fabulous! fresh and delicious, really nice variety of traditional Japanese breakfast items and breads, pastries etc, with so much to try and items rotating every day so even after five days we weren’t bored. Another feature we really enjoyed was the evening happy hour (6-8) with a selection of drinks available to try including a few types of local sake, umeshu, Japanese gin and whisky. Overall a fantastic stay and would come here again next time I visit!

The best hotel experience in years . Great value for money , with tasty breakfast , both western and wonderful Japanese food. Free bar service / happy hour, welcome after long day walking and absorbing delights of culture and history of Kyoto . The hot communal bathing facilities were also a treat . I would rank hotel above a 10 if I could . Very helpful staff at reception . Breakfast team attentive, kindly showing foreigner how to eat and enjoy all the wonderful local cuisine. Useful and reasonable laundry on premises . Great location close to Kawarmachi station and Nishiki food market / heaven and local retail .

Location couldn't be more perfect - right beside Shijo Kawaramachi station, smack in the middle between the main shopping streets and Gion area. Hotel amenities were great - loved the free onsen, breakfast spread was pretty good and food were nice, the free cocktail hours and pillow selection were nice addition. Lots of little helpful features around like a weighing scale for your luggages at every floor. I'd definitely choose to stay again when I return!

Even tho it felt very clean, my room was dusty and I had stuffy + runny nose after every night - a visible layer of dust settled on my ipad after just leaving it in the room for 1 day.

Reasonably-sized room, enough space to handle two big luggages, we chose a smoking room but did not notice any lingering smell or stain or any otherwise unpleasant thing. Room was squeaky clean with only a bit of dust at the vent. The staff was always friendly and helpful with everything. Free-flow drinks (mix your own cocktail) 6-8pm which was nice. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options. Perfect location close to many small shops and restaurants, convenience stores, both in the small alleys and on the main street. Walking distance to Gion and the big park.

The sink is a bit small, and if you open the bathroom door fully you won't be able to access the sink and vice-versa, but we managed with 2 people no problem.

Superb location! It's in a quiet lane near Nishiki market and close to bus and subway stations. They had complimentary hot spring facilities and complimentary drinks from 6-8 pm. The room also had a humidifier and air purifier which we appreciated. There was also a chart displaying locations where fall colours could be best experienced. Exceptional staff and very very convenient to check in and check out.

The room had enough space to open only one bag. Would be nice to create a little extra space for a second bag

Prime location. Wonderful, cheerful, helpful and kind staff, fantastic breakfasts. The hotel has practically all one needs, if not in plain view, one just asks. This is very well managed and thought-out facility, with an innovative, creative twist. Mature, environmentally friendly that provides excellent service. I’m super impressed and would come back anytime.

It would be helpful if standard rooms were 2-3 m2 larger. I had been aware of their size upfront, the listings are very accurate; yet if I had to put something on my wishlist, that would be the only thing.

This hotel is in a superb location. We were on the 10th floor, which also meant that we were not bothered much by the sound. The staff was very friendly; although their English was not perfect, it was relatively easy to communicate with them through the Google Translate app that they pulled up if they could not understand. The breakfast was extensive and the free drinks every evening were a welcome addition. Lastly, the public bath was also nice; there were time slots for men and women, with the time slots for women requiring a passcode that could be picked up from the front desk.

Although the breakfast was extensive, we would have preferred more vegetarian options (especially for condiments to put on the bread). Moreover, the bath times for men were slightly unfortunate, being at times when you would be asleep (late at night until the morning) or not in the hotel (during the day). Conclusively, the windows could unfortunately not be opened much and there was also privacy film on the entire window, which meant we could not really enjoy a view (even though we were on the 10th floor).

The buffet breakfast was excellent, and the variety of dishes offered was great. The banquet area was also spacious and felt relaxing. I liked that they offered refreshments in the evenings as well. We also loved the hotel's cleanliness. We also appreciated that the staff was super helpful when we inquired about shipping our larger suitcases to our next hotel in a different city. The hotel's location was good, it was a short walk from the train station although since we arrived in the evening, we made a wrong turn (we initially missed the alleyway that was a shortcut to the hotel).

The hotel has public onsen/bath facilities, although the schedule rotation (whether male or female could use the bath) was a bit confusing at first. The pillow that came with the room was also quite hard (I think it was the traditional buckwheat pillow) which I was not a fan of, but upon check-in, the staff did offer us to choose another pillow to bring up to the room.
