We had a very pleasant stay at this traditional, family-run ryokan in the center of Kyoto. The location was perfect for exploring the city, and the warm hospitality from the staff made us feel truly welcome. The room was spacious, beautifully kept, and the futon bedding was very comfortable — we slept wonderfully. We had the chance to try the traditional Japanese breakfast one morning, served in a private room, and it was a lovely and authentic experience. The public bath was also a nice feature and added to the relaxing atmosphere. Overall, a peaceful and charming stay with a very personal touch — highly recommended for anyone looking to experience traditional Kyoto hospitality.

This location was walking distance to Nishiki Market, Pontocho and Gion District. It was close to several metro lines that take you to several different shrines, temples and even to the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. The room was spacious and clean. The hosts, who were a lovely couple, were very friendly and willing to help with any request that you may have. She even offered to do my laundry for me while I was out sightseeing for only 1000 yen. This was my first time sleeping in a traditional Ryokan, so it was definitely a little different sleeping on the futon on the Tatami mat floor versus sleeping in an actual bed. Honestly, It was surprisingly more comfortable that I thought. The public bath and onsen were very clean and I ended up using it every day that I stayed.
There is an 23:00 (11:00pm) curfew, which is not a terrible thing when you are traveling solo... but the one night I met some friends and we were having drinks and I noticed that it was 22:30 and had to excuse myself from our fun conversation to make sure I got back to the Ryokan before curfew. If you are a "night owl" and like the nightlife, then this place may not be the place for you.

This ryokan truly delivers the traditional japanese experience. The owners and staff were exceptionally friendly and just lovely people. We highly recommend to try the breakfast at least once, as you get to enjoy an assortment of delicious japanese foods and drinks, wearing a yukata in your own private, japanese style space. The public bath is nice after a long day and also tattoo friendly! The location is great, just a 3 minutes walk from nishiki market. All in all, it was a really great experience!

Location was amazing, just a few blocks from the iconic Nishiki Market. Tons of amazing restaurants nearby and a short walk to a few different stations. Everything was clean and comfortable. Check in was easy and they will gladly take your bags early and put them in your room for you. Hosts speak good English! They had a beer/highball vending machine on the floor with the public bath and had umbrellas to borrow for the sometimes unpredictable Kyoto weather. The public bath was wonderful - clean, well stocked, and soooooo relaxing. Each room has traditional robes for use and lots of slippers to get around the hotel without having to put shoes back on. 11pm curfew to be back at the hotel, but you'll be tired enough after walking so much each day to see as much of Kyoto as possible. They will also keep your bags after check out so you can explore the city a little more before catching your train. The traditional breakfast was amazing and all of the staff were so kind and helpful.
Nothing comes to mind!

The hosts were very kind and informative. Instructions were very clear and available in English for non-Japanese speakers. The room was very tidy, and the hosts were also happy to guide on appropriate manners within a Japanese accommodation, which was helpful as a first timer to Japan. The breakfasts were always exemplary, and the public hot baths were also a delight to use.
Not much! I personally found the futon a bit uncomfortable on my final night but, I will confess I am a bit of a princess when it comes to sleeping, so this is potentially just a me problem!

The owners of the ryokan were so friendly and really tried to make guests feel at home! I also enjoyed the delicious food at breakfast every morning (different menu everyday) and getting to relax in the bath after each day of exploring was awesome! The ryokan is also in a perfect location, close to Nishiki Market and transportation. Room was clean and it was actually really comfortable sleeping on the tatami.
This is very minor and not a big deal at all, but my room had the toilet and shower on opposite ends of the room, so had to cross the living room to get to the other part. Again, very minor, and it might have just been my room’s layout.

Excellent location just a few steps away from Nishiki market (food haven) and 5 minutes away from Teramachi shopping street. The neighborhood is a mid-upper income residential area with convenience stores and ATMs within a few minutes reach. The couple managing the Ryokan are very polite, understanding and accommodating. If you are reading this: we loved your warm welcome. Please also extend our gratitude to the old lady who explained us and helped us to our rooms. The rooms were good, spacious and the futon mattresses were really comfortable. Excellent cooling too.
It might be because of renovation or the construction, but we had a problem with a weird heavy smell. We were not able to trace it's origin, but they were present in the bedrooms. As soon as we went out from the bedroom to the corridor or small hall/washroom, the smell was not there anymore. I was able to get used to it, but unfortunately my friend didn't have a good time with it.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The service was very personal - from helping us with our luggage to walking us out to our Uber as we were leaving. My son even received a special child-sized yukata to wear in the inn. The location is a block away from the famous Nishiko Market and walking distance to Gion. The inn is very quaint. The Akebono room was large with a balcony and private bathroom with soaking tub. The futons were comfortable. We had hot tea waiting for us when we arrived and upon coming back from our day’s activities. We loved it. Highly recommended.
We liked everything.

Location is excellent, within 1-2 blocks you'll find bike rental shop, Nishiki market, all kinds of restaurants and a bunch of Japanese fashion shops as well as North Face, Colombia, with Japanese designed items.
There's certain hours of reception availability. Gate open at 6:30am, and closes at 11:00pm. Facilities are super clean, comfortable, traditional Japanese ryokan. But if you are looking for something luxurious and fancy such as Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton, this is not it.

This was our favourite place to stay during our trip in Japan. It was so nice to have a large room as many hotels have very little space. The staff/owners were all very kind and helpful. The location is excellent too - there are so many restaurants and shops within a few minutes walk. I really wish we had been able to try the breakfast, but I couldn't see the option when I made the booking. Maybe next time!
The 10am checkout time is earlier than anywhere else we stayed. But we still give this place a 10 out of 10!
