Beds were the softest we found in Japan. Room is tight but functional. Loved the onsen in the room. Room was very quiet. Air conditioning only goes down to 20C / 68F, so could be a problem in Summer. Very friendly and helpful staff and concierge. Great English speakers available. Loved how well they re-stocked the room everyday (waters, other drinks, new towels, etc.)

Location is a bit crazy and hectic - mobs of tourists everywhere. Breakfast at hotel isn’t really a thing (unless you pre-order several days ahead the single formal Japanese option), so you are left with minimal options nearby that open before 11am. If you like to eat before 11, expect this to be an issue. No turndown service makes the Bettei side feel pedestrian despite prices close to 4-5 star hotels.

we stayed at the sora niwa terrace which is their higher scale part of the same hotel building as opposed to the sora niwa which is their regular part of the hotel. we liked the private onsen on the room terrace was great. also liked the roof top hotel terrace with drinks and hot natural fountain water for the legs as you sit and enjoy the city view at sunset. their Japanese breakfast at the hotel restaurant is a work of art and for the first three days it was a different one each morning. the stuff very friendly and accommodating. the free of charge drinks in the room minibar a great plus as should be on such level and room rate.

It was very good they had free drinks in the fridge very nice. And it was added daily. The onsen in the room was the highlight of the trip worth every penny. They were also very nice they add some candy for our honeymoon. Location for us was on point next kawaramacachi station and next to the market and the shopping area. The view from the hotel with greenery was very nice recommended to take high floors we had the 3rd not too bad. Very good for honeymooners I recommend you have a day or two to chill at the hotel.

That they had the availability to check us in early but they said we can only do if we pay an extra fee. The check in was at 2 and we arrived at 12:30

WOW! Soraniwa is just an amazing hotel and may be one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. If you are going to Kyoto, choose this hotel and you will not regret it. From the moment we checked in, we were treated like royalty. We booked a Precious Twin 3rd-4th floor with 2 twins pushed together. Maybe that is why we were given the VIP treatment. They guided us to a VIP desk, where we were seated and served tea with a sweet treat while the host checked us in. She also walked us to our room via a separate elevator. We were in awe of our beautiful, large room with its own onsen and balcony. The bar area was fully stocked with water, several beverages, and the most delicious cookies, all included in the rate and restocked every day. The bed was extremely comfortable, and I really enjoyed having a sitting area and the bathroom area was amazing. Felt so spoiled with the fancy bidet that operated on it’s own and never had to touch a single button (light, lid up and down, and flushing on its own!) Great shower that led to the onsen, that was always ready to use. You could open the sliding doors to the balcony or outside while in the onsen. On top of that, the hotel is in a fantastic location with the cute bridge to lead you to the Gion area, huge department store nearly across the street, and restaurants nearby. The hotel can give you a list of nearby restaurants, and one we loved was Kacto. We went there twice! We called the concierge for a recommendation, and she actually came to our room to help us, and the restaurant was amazing! They also suggested another restaurant near where we were going, and it was also amazing! Then there is the beautiful rooftop bar with the beautiful view and foot spring water! That was always such a treat to look toward Gion and the beautiful mountains, while relaxing and being spoiled with the service. I would give this hotel a 20 out of 10 if I could. I really hope to return with its beauty and out of this world custo

The only small thing would be the lack of storage for our clothes, but I do not think I would change a single thing!

The staff was incredible from start to finish! Daniel at the restaurant was an excellent host, and the food was fantastic. This was the most relaxing stay of our trip to Japan.

Location and the hospitality

Very well maintained, excellent location, friendly and thoughtful staff, service was exceptional. Housekeeping was impeccable. Extremely comfortable bed and super soft and silky sheets. Lovely extras like complimentary drinks, snacks and ice cream. Daily Japanese breakfast and kaiseki dinner was superb.

Our room on the second floor was quite spacious and comfortable, however the only drawback being on the second floor is when you are out on the balcony, the food / smell of cooking from the restaurants below is very strong. This was not so pleasant. Other than that, everything was perfect.
