The front staff speaks English which is very helpful and they were very kind. We were grateful to have an early check in provided. This location is fantastic with a mini fridge in room and great laundry facilities. We did the Japanese style family room....4 futons on Tatami. Not going to lie, that first night was rough for me figuring out how to sleep on a futon on the floor.. After that though, my body adjusted and I loved it! One teen loved it--one less so. Overall, this was a great stay with no regrets. They go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and helped us make dinner reservations, etc.

Great staff, especially the person checking us in was very friendly and helpful! No complaints about the others either, just wanted to shout her out :) Staff in general were very accommodating, the room was very nice, location was perfect, mostly quiet despite being close to Shijo, and getting to pretty much anywhere in Kyoto from there was a breeze. A bus from/to Kyoto Station stops literally right there, which is very convenient.

We stayed for a whole month, which is much longer than most guests stay, so I'll assume that complicated things, but the cups that came in the room didn't get washed/replaced after we'd used them. Also one of the days the cleaning staff left the balcony door open when they left (no risk of a break-in or anything, and everything else was in order, but might have been bad if the weather was worse that day, for example). Still, we understand things happen, and the receptionist was great about it.

Very nice, traditional experience with futon beds on tatami floors. It was nice to try the full on experience of traditional futon beds on tatami while getting a more "modern" bathroom (very grateful for it). We were also offered some freebies such as toiletries, cotton pods or hair brush, as well as some tea and pajamas (nightshirt). I was tempted to try the bicycle rental but my mum can't really ride it, so I hope some of the other guests got to enjoy it.

It was hard to get comfortable when getting home since we are not used to not have "normal" chairs or perhaps fluffier beds(?) it was okay to lay down completely flat facing down or up, yet if I wanted to lay down sideways it was quite uncomfy. Moreover the tatami had quite a peculiar smell, tho the place offered plug in diffusers to milden it.

The Wayfarer Kyoto Shijo is an excellent option for your stay in Kyoto. For us it's been so good that we decided to extend our stay for three extra nights. The location is perfect, it's very close to Shijo metro station and it is in an area from where you can easily go anywhere in the city. The staff is super nice and friendly and helped us with any need. In case you need it, there is a self-laundry service at the groud floor. The room (with futon on the traditional tatami floor) is big enough for three persons, I wouldn't recommend it for four people but I'm sure they would fit. There is a balcony, and the room is equipped with all you could need: there is the fridge, a kettle, metal glasses, a little table and a very useful power strip that allows you to charge all your devices (japanese plug).

Hotel has a front desk so getting help is easy. There's an APP called Kabin that can speed up the check-in process so your room number and access code at your door is provided even before you arrive. The hotel is well located so it's approximately 5 minutes to bus stops, 10 minutes to subway, and plenty of places to eat nearby. Generally speaking hotels in Japan are small, room size of this hotel is above average. I actually liked that all three beds are single beds with separate linens (we are travelling with a daughter so we booked a family room), since the bed for 2 are usually tiny in Japan, at least with 3 single beds we can all have a good sleep at night.

If I have to pick a point, the wall is thin so we can hear the next room quarrel over something for an hour or two.

The location was better than i thought. Easy access to major tourist spots and just 15 mins or less walk to Nishiki market. Staff are friendly and helpful. Cleaning staff come in daily to empty the bin and if towels need changing. We were in the Tatami room and the kids enjoyed the experience. Just get ¥100 coins ready to use the laundromat by reception. The Yamato luggage forwarders were just a building apart from the hotel. It was very convenient to send over our large luggages to Narita airport 2 days before we left Kyoto.

The bath/shower was smaller than expected but it wasn't a problem we just adjusted to the situation.

Great location close to both bus stops and train stations to get you anywhere you need to go in Kyoto; in walking distance to Nishiki Market, the Pokemon Center, and other bustling shopping streets. Located on a more quiet residential street so it's less busy and noisy, which we appreciated. Loved having a microwave and a coin laundry-dryer combo machine in the lobby so we could do our laundry and save luggage space for souvenirs. Staff was helpful and kind, calling a taxi for us, and making phone calls about sending our luggage ahead to our next destination and giving us detailed instructions on where/how to do so.

Walls are thin and we could sometimes hear our room neighbors talking/laughing. The beds were just mattresses lying on a wooden floor, which had cracks in it and could have been vacuumed a bit better. The bathtub drain in our bathroom was a little slow to drain after taking a shower.

Stayed at WAYFARER Kyoto Shijo for total of 4 nights. Check in quick and easy, with use of the Kabin app. The young lady (can't remember her name but she was South Korean born from USA) that served us on check in was brilliant. Very friendly and gave ideas for local places to eat. Room was large. 4 adults and 16month old were able to sleep comfortably in there. Full cleaning only occurred after 4 nights, but we were able to have rubbish bins emptied daily and also get fresh towels daily. Bus stop directly out the front and only short walk to Shijo train station. Local park/playground just up the road which was great for the 16 month old, and there was also a 24hr coin laundromat about 3 minute walk from the accommodation. Overall highly rate this place and would stay again if ever in Kyoto.

Nothing negative. It was a great place to stay

Great option to stay some nights in Kioto. Location was very good with several of the main bus lines at 5 mins walk and train/metro stations within 10 mins walk. lots of good restaurant options available in the area. The hotel offers a great value for money option, with bigger than average room sizes and very comfy beds. Facilities at hotel are also good and staff is very welcoming and helpful.

Our stay was very good, if I had to ask for some improvements I would focus on the laundry room and improving the equipment there. The drying is not that efficient. Still there's a good laundry store to do your clothes within 3 mins walk.

1. The large size room and comfortable for a young family or even older family. 2. Loved the comfortable Tatami beds. 3. Enough room for luggages in corridor. 4. Location, easy to get to main Kyoto street leading to Gion district.

1. The bathroom was a bit old and small. 2. The blankets could use a replacement. They were yellow when you look under the covers. 3. Lack of PowerPoints in the room. 4. No cafes or restaurants nearby unless you walk a bit further out like 5 to 10 mins away. 5. Walk to nearest Subway is 10 mins on bumby narrow street.
