The lobby has a nice lounger area where you can relax, play some provided board games or get some work done. It also has a kitchen, water boiler and microwave you can use. The staff is very kind and helpful. I forgot my water bottle in the room and continued with my travels to another city, I contacted the hostel and they agreed to send it to my current location. It arrived successfully and I am very thankful for the extra time and effort they put into sending it!

I had a small issue with another guest who was staying in my same room, they took my assigned bed and refused to move, but I didn't insist or ask the staff for help because it wasn't worth the trouble and I didn't mind just taking another bed that was free in the same room.

The family room was really spacious and comfortable for us, and the location of the hostel was a few minutes walk from bus stops and convenience stores. There’s also a kimono rental on the ground floor that gives you a discount if you’re a guest staying there.

For a room accommodating 6 people, there were very few outlets provided. Good thing we brought an extension otherwise we would’ve had a hard time charging our phones. Also, the pillows were small and hard (the stuffing was made of plastic-like material I assume) so it was a bit uncomfortable when sleeping.

There is a lounge at level 1 for me to thaw out after being out in the cold the entire day. I am given a key card that brings security to the level of most hotels so that’s great! There is an izakaya directly connected to the lounge so you’ll never run out of food.

The nearest train station is a 10-minute walk away. The curtains that are supposed to cover you in your bed covers only partially (people walking past below can see me being naked in bed). The space is cramped, nowhere else to put your luggage and bags (except a locker but I don’t hang smelly clothes in lockers).

Very friendly staff. It was in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by good restaurants. We went to Chifaja (all you can eat meat) for 90 minutes.Fast service and food was excellent. Close to family marts and less than 10 minute walk to Shijo station. The rooms were clean

Definitely carryon luggage only. We had a quadruple bed and a single bed rooms. Both are cramped for space if you a have a carryon and medium size luggage for multiple people. We took turns arranging things in our luggage on the floor. Your option is to put your luggage on the bed (yikes)

The staff was amazing, they were very friendly, talkative, and spoke good English, suggested places to visit. The location was good, everything was nearby, subway, bus (5 min by walking), convenient store 3 min away, plenty of restaurants, shopping district was 20 min away. Common area/kitchen was small, but you can cook and eat there. But not the place to chill out or meet new people. I was staying in a 6 person dormitory room, there was a sink and shower inside the room, and the restroom was outside the room. There were lockers in the room for each person. Hostel provide towels, one big and one small. Because I was staying 4 nights, I got 2 sets without an additional fee.

The common area wasn't the place to socialize and make new friends. Bunk bed top was uncomfortable. Ladder and the way you were going to your bed and back was uncomfortable (for my height, 184cm)

Great location close to Shijo Station. During the Gion Festival there were floats and yatais all around the neighbourhood which is great is you're wanting to check it out. Rooms were clean and I liked that the curtain wrapped all around the bunk. Air conditioning on the main floor is nice and strong, and the one in the rooms can be adjusted.

The toilet rooms are pretty small, although that's a difficult thing to change. Same with the bathroom space (outside the shower). There's no counterspace but they have a basket you can put your items in. Would be great if there was a shelf!

We self-catered and had nice cool and comfy bedrooms. Sound-proofing is not great, but on the whole the other residents were fairly quiet. The staff went out of their way to address our needs and were very friendly. It is convenient for metro and city centre, and the central station is walkable if you don't want to use the metro. The street is quiet at night and during the day.

It would have been more useful to have a shared fridge in the self-catering kitchen than to have single fridges in each bedroom - we were on the 4th floor so did a lot of carting back and forth. Otherwise the set up was great.
