At 250 sf, this room was spacious for two travelers. The hotel provided yukata, hapi coat and slippers for each guest. It was nice to wear during the included breakfasts and dinners. You could also wear it to the onsen. The room was relaxing and the bathroom, although small which is normal for Japanese bathrooms was equipped with Toto toilet features. The breakfast buffet had a variety of Japanese cuisine and American food. The dinners came with 7-8 Japanese courses and were excellent. There is a nice shop adjacent to the lobby which sold souvenirs, clothing, snacks, sake, plum wine and shochu. The lovely staff spoke very little English and since I spoke little Japanese, we communicated via Google translate which worked perfectly.

The location is about a 15 minute car ride to the Nara Deer park. It’s far from the major shopping areas and they don’t offer shuttle service.

This is a very Japanese ryokan. You may not be able to communicate in English at the front desk. We loved the authentic experience but you need to be ready for it. Our room did not have a private onsen and it was a bit small especially as you had to step up into the bathroom. We had twin beds which were firm. Ask for two pillows if you like using them to read etc. The onsen is fed from an ancient spring. I found it felt very therapeutic. It was very authentic and I learnt how much scrubbing is involved in preparing for the onsen. The food was excellent. The breakfast is a buffet. The dinner is served. Each night is a different menu. We had the basic menu (there are options available) and enjoyed it very much. You often cook the entree at your table. The location is away from Nara Park but we walked 15 minutes from the train station. We took a taxi when we arrived. There is a large park with archeology projects and a beautiful garden has been reconstructed on the east side. There is also Saidaiji Temple which is a large complex and really worth visiting. Almost no one does so you have it yourselves pretty much. We found a great coffee house just north of the hotel on the corner. No English but a lovely fellow runs it so if you are a bit patient it is a nice place.

The pick your own kimono station at reception was great! We ordered a kaiseki dinner, which they were able to adapt to our dietary requirements. Drinks were reasonably priced, so we didn't feel like we were being ripped off having something to go with our dinner. Breakfast was varied and genuinely nice for a buffet, mainly japanese cuisine, which suited us! The private onsen was lovely (and we could see a temple in the distance, though we also could see the hotel car park.)

We had a private onsen room, and the wooden floor by the shower head looked a bit rotten. The room is consistently steamy from the free running onsen water, so i do get it? But maybe they should find another material as it doesn't look that nice. The shower head was on a timer, so it was a bit annoying when you just wanted a pre onsen shower to keep pushing the button.

It's exactly what to expect from a Japanese Onsen Hotel. It was the experience I was looking for, for my visiting relatives. Good service, nice small onsen, nice diner, nice breakfast.

Beds are a little hard for non Japanese not used to that kind of experience. Double futon in the tatami room, and slightly softer matless for beds would be highly appreciated. Some parts of the rooms, especially near the windows, were quite dusty. Everything else was clean, so I guess there's a small review to do on the cleaning process.

The food here is incredible. Breakfast buffet is an insanely good deal for high quality and variety despite the low price. Dinner was a gourmet experience. Onsen is tastefully done (outdoor bath is the best!). I think this would be a great place to visit in the fall time. A stone's throw from Heijo Palace site.

A/C was pretty weak. In retrospect, this hotel is quite a distance from the JR station coming into Nara and even further from Nara Park if you are coming to see the deer. If you're OK with the extra taxi/train, it's worth it though. There is also a free shuttle that will take you to the closest train station that can get you back to the JR station.

In an excellent location with a nice view and in a tranquil area. The Onsen is great. However, if you have tattoos, you must have them covered before getting in. I would have used the Onsen at least 3-4 times but because of this rule, I only did it once.

The tattoo rule and the shuttle transfer service. If you depart from the hotel early, the shuttle service only starts at 09:30 hrs. The station is about 1 km away from the hotel.

Good size of the room, quiet. Excellent massage service.

Hotel has only 3 floors so using the open air bath means the blinds must still be drawn, no feeling that it's an open air bath. Breakfast is buffet style, not of the best quality and too many people at one time causes great inconvenience.

Very comfortable, traditional Ryokan. Welcoming staff, excellent food and comfortable rooms. A little way out of Nara but all the main sites were easily accessible and public transport within 10-15 minutes walk. I would definitely recommend.

My room was fabulous, with my own onsen bath, on the balcony overlooking Nara's ancient imperial palace site. The staff excelled themselves with their helpfulness, and dinner was fantastic, despite my lack of chopsticks skills!
