The staff have been so kind and helpful during our stay! We have booked the private room and benefited from additional comfort, although we would still recommend earplugs as the walls are quite thin. The guesthouse facilities are great - we have used the laundry machine and managed to dry our clothes on the same day. As it's great value for money, very cozy, and located so close to the city center & deer park, we would definitely come back when in Nara again! There are many places to eat nearby, we have particularly enjoyed the vegan cafe across the road. Also not a problem for us as we had our own, but remember to bring your own towels as they are not usually supplied by guesthouses.

Sound carries quite a bit! Bringing earplugs and eye mask helps a lot.

I really enjoyed the old-style homey feel of the place. The staff were very kind and welcoming and it was nice to have them greet you so warmly as you departed and returned from your day. The deer park is a short walk away which was great especially if you want to have some quieter times in the early mornings to deer watch without the busy crowds. The surrounding area is very peaceful if you don’t mind a longer walk to the subways/city center/convenience store - there are buses nearby if you’re not a fan of walking! The kitchen had all the necessary utensils if you want to make your own meals! Would definitely stay here again!

The sound insulation was not great, as the couch and kitchen area was right next to paper thin room divers that do little to shield from noise. Make sure to bring ear plugs! There’s also only two bathrooms and showers in the downstairs area that is shared by everyone, which often meant a lot of waiting especially if the place is fairly booked.

Loved it here!! The staff is so kind, the beds are comfortable and the breakfast was awesome. Good common space with room to eat and the bathrooms are spacious and provide enough. It's also walking distance to Nara Park!!!

It is an old style building, and the walls/doors were not very sound-proof. I could hear every conversation held in the hallway/kitchen, but no one was up at ungodly hours thank goodness ^^

Good-ish location, 15 mins walk to main attraction, but I also enjoy all the little streets and alleys around the guesthouse. The staffs are friendly and helpful, happy to give recommendations too.

The cleanliness in the toilet needs a step up. It smells and you can actually see the toilet has not been cleaned. Fair that it’s a guesthouse with other guests, but I’ve been to other guesthouses with pristine hygiene in the toilet. Other than that, you also have to pay for/ rent bath towel, which is a first for me during my travel in Japan. Other guesthouses of the similar calibre always offer free towels, or at least the 1st one

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The facilities were also very interesting and unique as the building is a repurposed merchant’s house. We purchased the breakfast both days that we stayed here and it was tasty both days. I would highly recommend doing this.

We stayed in the private rooms and needed to go through an open-air space to get to the bathroom/shower area. As we stayed here in the winter, it was a bit cold. It wasn’t a problem but is something to be aware of if you are sensitive to temperature changes.

Great location, very close to the park and not too far from the train station (20 minutes walk, or there's a bus stop just outside). The host was very nice and everything was clean.

The space is really cramped, there's barely room to walk between the beds, and no shelves/nightstands. Another thing that I would have appreciated, since there are two shower rooms and two toilet rooms, is to have them separated between men and women, as they are just mixed.

I really liked this hostel and even extended my stay by 2 days to explore the wider area. At check-in, Yuyo (sorry about the spelling) was particularly helpful and always had time for the guests. Wifi was good. Hot showers and very clean throughout. The cafe has a limited menu but food was great! I would definitely stay here again.

Female dorm is a bit cramped with terrible lighting - organise your bags when there is daylight! Make use of the ear plugs, you can hear everything between male/female dorms.

I loved the traditional style of this hostel and that it was clean, had an in-house washing machine, the wood floors and it's proximity to Nara Park. I got on really well with the staff member from Hokkaido as he had very good English and his story - he walked from the south border of France all the way across north Spain to Galicia which took him 1 month and improved his English. Inspirational!

Like nearly all the (cheaper) backpack hostels, I did get bed bug bites but they usually last a day and for me not a problem.

The guesthouse was wonderful. Highlights included staff, the breakfast and a lovely little garden courtyard in the middle of the building. There are a couple of small bakeries and places to eat nearby which we really enjoyed, and wandering the neighborhood shrines was very nice. (Not touristy) although the main city shrines and deer park are a short 12 minute walk away.. Would definately recommend.

This place has everything you want in a hostel, the 2 young men working at the reception were both very helpful and friendly and spoke english, i was allowed to put my bicycle in the garden in the centre of the house where it was very secure so i was very happy with that. The hostel/guest house has a small cafe at the front and serves breakfast and coffee and there is also a kitchen area with a dining table elsewhere in the building.
