We liked the air conditioned rooms with comfy beds. We also liked the open communal area with kitchen, dining area and lounge area. It had a very relaxed feel, and the simplicity of check-in was a bonus.

We visited in a heat wave in Summer, so air conditioning in the communal area would have been nice. The information shown for the property needs to make it clear that there is no elevator, just stairs. This is fine for most, but a family turned up during our stay with a wheelchair and were seriously disadvantaged and unaware there was no elevator.

The location was excellent. So close to the old town and the markets. Communication of the hosts was great. The beds were very comfortable for us. The toilet and bathroom were more than adequate.

No elevator but that is common in Japan. There were no shelves or even small tables to put our things on. Just hangers and beds. I understand that this place had a minimalist concept and I appreciate it but we would have appreciated more functional furniture. Even just bare and minimalist ones. We basically had to put our things either on the beds or the floor. A tiny coffee table and chair would have been nice and a stool to help when putting on our shoes. I would still recommend this place.

It had a wonderful clean minimalist style. The interior designer definitely was talented. Perfect for small groups/family. The very big lounge in the entrance was also very nice and had a fully functional kitchen. Later I was told that they have some "nomikai" or Movie nights there as well! (highly recommended) The owner was extremely friendly and could speak English. We also had 4 big and heavy suitcases which perfectly fit underneath the sleeping area!

There is not much to complain. The "floor" in the room itself was rather narrow, but this is not really a problem. The hotel is about 15min walking distance to the train station. (Or 5 min with a taxi!) No Elevator so bringing our heavy suitcases up and down was a bit difficult, but I still would choose this hotel again!

The beds were designed to use the space well. Great location within walking distance to everything Takayama has to offer. The staff were great and loved a chat!

The room design was claustrophobic with low windows to knee height and then walled to the ceiling. Our neighbour left their outdoor light on all night and it shined directly into our eyes as the beds were low/aligned with the windows. We had all of our luggage stacked up to block out the light. Maybe the outdoor lights could be put on a timer?

Cup of Tea was my favorite place I stayed on a recent trip to Japan. I knew it was close to many local landmarks (walking distance from the bus station, both Takayama morning markets are within just a few blocks, and many delicious restaurants were just down the road). What I did not anticipate was the location itself being so ideal. Tranquil is the word that comes to mind to describe our room: it had a simple but beautiful motif and absolutely beautiful natural lighting. I cannot suggest this place enough.

It was the most comfortable bed so far out of my whole trip in japan. The staff were so lovely and the feel for the place is just so cosy and inviting. Everything we wanted to see (and eat) was all within in walking distance. There is also a cute little cafe right next door!

You can hear the people in the room next door walking around. And if you want an early night but the next room has the balcony light on there is no way to block it out

This renovated bank has beautiful architectural interior design. The staff spoke very fluent English and were so helpful in providing recommendations for local places to eat. The beds are very comfortable. Extra blankets were provided for the cold winter months and the heating worked very well. The shared kitchen was well appointed with appliances, a fridge and lots of crockery. Location wise, it is a short walk to the station and popular areas of Takayama township.

If you stay with a group of four in the four bed room, you would need to store your luggage under the beds in the room due to the size and limited storage space in the coat hanging area.

The accomodation is located around 10-15 mins walk from the train station but within several minutes walk of the historic district and is thus surrounded by many eating options. Our room had 4 singles beds which were very, very comfortable. The common spaces were great to just chill in after a whole day out. Although there was no staff around, the check in process was very smooth. Hotel was easy to find. As we entered there was a note on the inside with my name and the key to the room.

The actual available space in the room for suitcases and to move around was constricted. There were 4 of us so we had to take it in turns to open our suitcases and then store the suitcase below the bed. There could be more hooks in the bathroom and in the passageway to hang up clothes.

This is a great place - a super-stylish hotel, but with hostel-type facilities - a beautiful shared lounge with cooking facilities. The rooms are small but full of light and well thought-out and the futons are incredibly comfortable. Great location and they even provide baskets of toiletries to take to the nearby sento.

This place is beautiful. It is decorated in a lot of wood both on the inside and the outside. The distinct wood pattern is how you can identify it on the street as the sign is very small. There is a lovely lounge as you walk in with couches and a long table. It is self check in so don't expect to be greeted by anyone but there is staff that pop by if you need anything and you can also reach them at their other location (I think it's called the Cup of Tea Guesthouse). We had a larger room with 6 beds which felt very spacious. There is a bathroom and shower in the room and the beds were comfortable. It is located close to the old town part of Takayama and within reasonable walking distance to the train and restaurant. The bakery next door (Bremen Bakery) had delicious baked goods and I would highly recommend stopping by.
