The hotel is quite small with a cosy atmosphere, but modern amenities. It lies only a short walk away from the train station. Be aware that you'll have to walk back to the other side of the station to get to most restaurants and bars in town. The reception staff was friendly and helpful, and very proficient in English, which is not always the case, even in bigger hotels. The breakfast was really good and freshly prepared by two very friendly staff members. Apparently they alternate between a traditional Japanese and a Western breakfast, which seemed to be identical ever other day. This might have become a bit repetitive if we had stayed longer. The hotel has a small private open-air hot bath, which is open till after midnight - great for some relaxation after a long day of sightseeing or hiking before going to bed.

According to the room description, there was supposed to be a washing machine. However, there is only a single coin-laundromat shared by all guests. This can obviously lead to some complications if several people need to do their laundry. We endet up using a public laundromat, which was a 12 min walk from the hotel. There is only very limited storage space if you want to unpack your suitcases for a longer stay.

nice, beautiful hotel with quiet rooms very nice private outside hot bath nice breakfasts

-it could be more towel hangers. -awkwardly long check in time with strange questions from the host -it would be nice if host ask guests if yukatas in the rooms are right size or not and provide right size if needed -We would generally recommend to improve communication with guests and work on recommendations where to eat or drink in the city (not to tell guests that city sleeps after 8 pm and there is nothing to do outside, cause it is not true!! there are cool bars in Takayama and generally center is very calm and beautiful at night time). -would be nice to use washing machine and dryer after 10 pm (at least till midnight) otherwise guests plans their evening around laundry. -I also had a feeling that room had a moisture smells, but opening window helped.

Ichinomatsu Japanese Modern Hotel is a lovely boutique hotel in Takayama. It's about a 10-minute walk to the town centre and 20 minutes to the Sanmachi-dori (historic area). Breakfast was included. We were told in the morning when we arrived at the dining room that it was a Western-style breakfast. So the hotel must alternate between Japanese and Western-style breakfast. The food was excellent. We stayed in a Japanese-style room with twin beds - more like mattresses on a tatami mat than traditional futons. The beds were comfortable, and the room was quiet. There was plenty of space for luggage. There is an onsen in a small structure in the hotel's courtyard. You can book a half-hour appointment for the onsen - and couples can use it together. You don't need more than half an hour - it's hot - and we were out after 20 minutes. We had a car, and parking was conveniently located 50m from the hotel.

The bathrooms are tiny, with a small shower cubicle, a separate toilet and a sink outside the bathroom. The only chair provided was what we would describe in the west as a low beach chair. The room needs a proper chair or small lounge to relax on. You have to walk through an open courtyard to get to the rooms at the back of the hotel. This involves shoes on and off multiple times. When you arrive in the foyer, change into slippers, get to the first door outside, change to outdoor slippers, get to the back part of the hotel, and put on inside slippers. When you go out, you do the same thing again. The hotel should consider enclosing the outdoor footpath into a corridor so you can keep your slippers on and not have to venture out into the cold to go to your room.

Hotel is kind of house-converted style with limited quantity of rooms. However room is clean, comfortable & tidy with all basic features like kettle, fridge, kimono.. etc Breakfast is included and served personally with a predetermined timeslot of 30mins decided by guest upon check-in. Onsen is small but of private usage via booking with the logbook.

Parking slot is very limited to 5 max (was informed by hotel staff that 5 is hardly occupied). However overnight parking fees of ¥1,000 is rather steep. Signage of hotel is not prominent and only visible when near.

Really helpful, friendly staff. Breakfast was the perfect size for us. Loved that there was a communal lounge/kitchen area with free tea/coffee/soft drinks- a nice place to eat our own food in the evenings. The onsen was also lovely - great to be able to book it out for 30 minutes at a time for just you and your partner. Whilst it was the wrong side of the train station from where the main town was, it was only a 10/15 minute walk.

Nothing.

Fantastic hidden away Hotel in Takayama! Not too far from the station so was a great location for us! Staff were super friendly & attentive at all times. Breakfast was superb and very tasty. Our room was great, clean and very comfy. We loved the private Onsen facility in the garden that you book each night. This is a really lovely spot where you can relax after a long day of touristing! Would 100% recommend this hotel and would stay here again as we love Takayama!

This is a quite well maintained property, we have our comfortable stay, the gardens was lovely and nice especially when it snows. Private Onsen considered clean. Overall it was great. For travel guide, it is great on some recommendations of food, but maybe can also have ENGLISH option?

We have to change slippers too many times, end up we forgotten which pair is for which purpose already. I hope the owner can simplify this rule or differentiate the purpose of slippers by colours. (example, black for outdoor, white strictly for indoors)

We loved everything about this accommodation. The people were super kind, the location was great, and the interior (and exterior) was gorgeous. They have a private onsen which you can book easily and was available most of the times that we wanted. The breakfast was included to our surprise and was prepared with so much love and care. On the last day we couldn’t make it to the earliest breakfast slot, so they suggested they gave us a bento box (to go) that we could take. That was already prepared and ready when we picked it up. The whole day you could grab free coffee, tea and lemonade. Overall the accommodation was so peaceful, quiet and gorgeous we would definitely stay again if we could. There was also a coin laundry included with a washing machine and a dryer. We could only use 100 yen coins but we could easily exchange those at reception.

If I had to pick one thing I guess it’s the air circulation in the rooms. There was a ventilation system, an airco and an air humidifier. But whenever we got back into the room it felt a bit humid/muggy. But that’s just a minor detail on all the positive points, and was easily fixed when the air-devices were turned on.

Such a beautiful modern ryokan. Very clean. Staff was super kind, they speak some english and it was enough. I loved the room with the garden view, wonderful! The outside onsen was a nice experience (no problem with tatoos or couples, very friendly for first timers). Delicious breakfast, it was japanese one day, western the next.

The only small downside is the location, since it's not super close to the points of interest BUT it's just a short walk away. Straight line to Takayama station and nohi bus. It was not a big deal.

Lovely small modern ryokan in the quiet city ot Takayama. Short walk from the station and the center, the location has all that can be needed, including free coffee and tea in the common room next to a small garden. The location also has a small Onsen and decent-sized rooms. Superb breakfast alternating each day between western and Japanese style. Laundry on site. Definitely worth it!

The shoe policy within the building is a bit complicated (changin to diffetent shoes for the garden, agin for the building), but for the rest nothing to be improved!
